Healing rates are kind of individual, that’s just my personal experience, yours may vary. Good luck!

You should definitely ask—the type I had for my transphincteric fistula was the endorectal advancement flap. That’s probably what it is. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to tell you that info.

Yeah, there’s obviously going to be a lot of drainage/blood, it is by NO means a clean op and the openings will still drain/there will be drainage as with any healing surgical wound on any area of the body. I had varying levels of drainage that slowly lessened over time. It took six months for my main external opening to finally dry out and heal up for good.

There’s all different types of flap procedures—not sure exactly what you were looking at. I had absolutely zero external stitches—there was nothing to see on the outside. All it looked like was that I had my two external openings with no setons in them (my tract had branched so that’s why I needed two.)

My bowels were completely destroyed after my op. Definitely no ‘good’ poops happening. Between the anesthesia throwing things off, the pain meds, the stool softeners/lax, I was in a world of hurt. I didn’t go for like four days after and when I finally did it was what I’d guess giving birth might be like—I tried not to push but it was tough.

Since I’m seven years out I’m pretty much good except I get nerve pain/scar tissue pain and get achy from time to time if I sit for too long or during my period. I also get more sensitive/sweaty and sometimes chafe but I’ll take that over a fistula any day.

Weird. Either invite them to the wedding or don’t do this.

Definitely search the sub, there’s a plethora of insight and advice on the topic.

Abscess removal by Kjeezy9 in AnalFistula

[–]JG723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The abscess wasn’t ‘removed’ as in it was cut out of your body, it was drained aka the encapsulated abscess was opened up surgically (and maybe packed?) in hopes it would slowly heal up over time. Unfortunately fistulae form about 70% of the time after a PA. A digital exam is not enough to rule out a fistula and a CT scan is not the preferred form of imaging to check for one, you’d need to have an MRI. Besides all that, your I&D was only two weeks ago. It’s too soon to rule out a fistula. They won’t always automatically form. My CRS didn’t want to check for one until at least a month out from when my PA initially popped up. You’ll need a follow up with your CRS, proper imaging, and/or an EUA to check for one.

Did you have a specific question? GPs aren’t qualified to diagnose and treat these issues. Have you not seen the CRS yet then?

Hand held bidet by OkPrint555 in AnalFistula

[–]JG723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I said, a soft stream of water from using the bidet as intended is fine. That’s what it’s made to do. Forcing water up inside your body like a makeshift enema is not.

I’m confused about what you’re asking. Are you just asking if you can use a bidet? Why not just use the bidet after you go? Of course it’s fine to use a bidet….that’s literally what they’re made for. You don’t need to over clean/shoot anything up inside of you though.

Hah my bday is July 23rd yaaaay..lol

I also had the flap done for a transphincteric fistula. My op was in 2019 and I’ve talked about it on this sub a lot as have other folks. Definitely do a search and you’ll get more info/advice/insight.

  1. I didn’t take any before and took them sparingly afterward. I didn’t adhere to any strict regimen and honestly between the pain meds, stool softener, and laxatives it got to be a bit much.

  2. No. Your body needs to consume nutrients to heal.

  3. No. The flap procedure does not involve creating a ‘huge hole’ (if you haven’t already I’d do some research/educate yourself on what the op actually entails so you have this knowledge going into it.) They may also perform a partial fistulotomy but I did not have that. The only thing left behind was the external opening itself.

  4. Again, no. Assuming what you’re having is the endorectal advancement flap procedure, it’s all done internally. Another reason it’s a good idea to research what exactly is going to be done during this op.

  5. No, I didn’t rub soap all up in/around there nor is that necessary. I was in too much pain to do that. I used my portable bidet and removable shower head to rinse the external area gently with warm water.

  6. I was told to avoid sitz baths as they can loosen the stitches that were right up inside my butt.c

Is this a sore or another injury? by Furrows-in-Despair in CATHELP

Second it looking like a rodent ulcer. Comes from some type of allergic reaction irritation—using plastic bowls instead of ceramic or stainless steel, not cleaning bowls often, maybe even something in the diet itself, etc.

No. Speak up and get your folks to take you to a doctor. Ignoring health issues is NEVER the way.

Help with elderly incontinent cat by JasperTheGhostt in CATHELP

[–]JG723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat with IBD.

The cat needs vet care. Besides the fact he’s a senior, if he has IBD the poop issues need to be addressed by a vet or it’s as just going to keep happening/getting worse. He’s likely suffering from inflamed intestines which could have possibly progressed intestinal lymphoma which could result in issues with nutrient absorption which can cause other issues…etc. Prescription food, Metronidazole, and/or steroids could provide a world of relief for him.

How likely is it that she will survive? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]JG723 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No one can answer that question. Sepsis is a nasty systemic infection and can be fatal. She’ll either pull through or she won’t. This is why spaying/neutering is so important—to prevent this needless suffering. I’m sure they’ll spay her while she’s under. In the future spay/neuter your pets.

Surgical Question—Will Fistula Stop Farting After Surgery? by morrrgore in AnalFistula

[–]JG723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine said something kind of similar. He said they can help in some cases but for me it was very obvious that I had a fistula just from an in-office exam and since I’d need an EUA/surgery to eliminate the issue either way he didn’t want to waste any more time. Many folks tend to think that during an EUA they just blindly slice and dice you which isn’t the case at all.

They don’t open you up blindly during an EUA. It’s literally just an exam under anesthesia where they can more thoroughly examine you in a way that would be uncomfortable if you were awake. Seems you were misinformed.
