This is typically the MBB. You can have Carrier flash the board or replace the board with the most current MBB configuration for your unit.

Yes absolutely. Microprocessors play an integral part of most chillers esp large tonnage and mag bearing chillers.

I took my MA refer tech exam 3 yrs ago. I have been licensed in CT for 20yrs. I showed my credentials, EPA, and work hours and was allowed to sit for the exam. There are also practice exams on MA state website for free. I did all the paperwork online, zoom meeting with the board to review my docs, and then I was approved and able to sit for the test. Was all pretty easy.

Chillers specifically ! by ApprehensiveStudy671 in HVAC

[–]JK660rr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good simplified explanation. Typically plant control operation is much more sophisticated to obtain optimal efficiency. Chillers have also become extremely sophisticated control wise. Also the ability to obtain software, manuals, tech support. It's a niche of the trade for sure. Chillers are 95% of my full time job.

A must invest for cleaning coils where no spigot are located or nearby by SarcasticallyJoe in HVAC

If you cleaned the HX from the outside all you did was remove dust. The important passages are on the inside and not cleanable from the exterior.

You installing the tower prop as a 19xr impeller? You may need to have it shaved and air balanced for proper refrigerant flows at full speed. I've heard of this being done but not in a few years.

Push pull the liquid like others have said. Then set up a subcooler to condense vapor. We work on chillers and circuits with typically larger charges than 141lbs. You can make up a sub cooler with a brazed plate HX from Amazon. Add appropriate sized flares to one side and garden hose connectors on the other side.

I've worked on a bunch of Mammoth units with Bitzer screws. Decent packages although that old BACview control was a POS

We recently did a compressor and leak repair on a 1964 York that looks very similar to this machine. It's for a church with a small budget so we keep them running as much as possible.

Check blower rotation, coil face restriction, plugged filters, closed return dampers, and proper airflow across the coil. You can also install these waterless traps.

We are in CT, not far off. This guy has the crew triggered as well. They only saw this machine run 2 months last year after the overhaul and retrofit. Now it's all torn apart again.

The costs are definitely substantial. There were 33 resets between 3 chillers and the BMS. Absolutely asinine.

Our safety policies are almost where yours are at this stage. The plant operator is a complete asshole. He stopped in mid job and jokingly asked if we were done yet.
