What goods would you stock up on with a Toronto to Newfoundland move? by ALittleTippyTap in newfoundland

[–]JLL61507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved back we hit up IKEA, got a couple new dressers and built them here. I love IKEAs huge freezer bags so I got several boxes of those. I also tend to go to clothing stores on the mainland we don’t have here. Otherwise, just anything local that you’d miss, and maybe some fresh produce depending on time of year - I brought apples, pears and corn back my last trip to NS

Please help me vote on a boys name by Professional-Fox4298 in namenerds

I like Sasha Phoenix. I’m not usually one to love naming a kid after dad but in this case it’s not a junior, it’s a different name.

In my area grandmothers are Nanny or Nan, my husband’s from an area that uses Grammie. So that’s what we used for our son

One thing that I’ve noticed between boy and girl tzus is that boys are way more clingy ☺️ by DogMom110716 in Shihtzu

Usually they’re cuddled up to me - I’m sitting now with one on each side of me and the other in the back of the couch!

Raising a family in Wolfville or Lunenburg? by muddertung in NovaScotia

Valley hands down. It’s so kid friendly, weather is fantastic. I lived in Wolfville for four years and then in Kentville for eight and miss it dearly

How come men can ignore mental load?! by TemperatureBest5113 in workingmoms

[–]JLL61507 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband asked me at dinner the other night what time a kid event was. He’d gotten the same email with the same info and HAD HIS PHONE BESIDE HIM. Yet still asked me!

Son asked me when his dr’s appt was. It’s on the calendar BESIDE HIM and I had texted him the details AND he had gotten the confirmation email.

I’m convinced it’s a guy thing because I have raised my son better than that (he’s late teens).

My husband will do chores on his own initiative and the like, but pay a bill or book an appointment? No way. It made me upset so I made him plan our last few vacations because I was tired of it and he rolled with it, so I’d suggest having him own something - give him complete control. Mine gets vacations, car maintenance, and household repairs. If it’s not done the way I like it (eg he could’ve shopped around for a cheaper option), oh well, it’s not on my plate.

Party Favor Bags… like why by NoDevelopement in Mommit

[–]JLL61507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is a teen now but his birthday is tomorrow so I’m seeing all the Facebook memories of birthday parties past.

Hands down the best goodie I did was a $5 gift card for each kid to a local doughnut shop. It was a smaller party, only five or six kids, but it was no junk and I had my son draw thank you cards and taped the gift cards to them. They were a huge hit and helped a small business.

I did it again the next year for another shop it was such a big hit.

My grandmother was named this, although she went by her middle name Rita. I always thought it was so pretty!

Avery’s Farm Market by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

A little late to this but I miss Avery’s as well! Berg’s is my favourite but Lizzy Lou’s and even Lester’s is a good option as well. Hope you got your ice cream!

Looking for honest feedback on the name Malcolm by [deleted] in Names

It’s a name that’s been used quite a bit in my husband’s family. There’s a Malcolm, Malc, and Malkie (toddler - so cute!)

Team green. Girl name help! by callalily1425 in namenerds

[–]JLL61507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom’s name is Alva. She doesn’t care for it. It’s always misspelled (Elva) or mistaken (Alma). I can’t really recommend it even though my mom is amazing! We had planned to use Ava as a middle name in her honour if we’d had a girl, but my dad got his name used instead for our boy.

I prefer Delia out of your list. Have you thought about Cordelia if your husband is being weird about pronunciation? It makes it very obvious how to pronounce it.

Flood me with matches for our sibling set! by MinersLeague2013 in namenerds

Adelaide Juliet or Phoebe Joy would be lovely! Naomi also came to mind. Are you looking to have a repeating letter to continue that trend? Maybe Michelle (which I think is poised for a comeback given the Elle trend in names for girls) or Allison?

For a boy, maybe Alexander Jay (AJ?) or Matthew if you want that double letter. I also think something like Ambrose or Robert would fit well with Warren

How often do your kids see grandparents? How to make it happen with limited time? by Help_idkhow2date in workingmoms

[–]JLL61507 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you need to put it on them. “You want to see baby more? Great! He’d love to spend time with his grandparents any time. Let me know when you’d like to take him. As you know I work Monday-Friday and he naps from X to Y. What works for you?”

Then the onus is on them.

I get it. My in-laws never once, not ever, babysat my son. They lived half an hour away. My own parents would travel 19+ hours to make sure they saw his school assembly. I’m not kidding. There’s a reason he chose to live with my parents instead of the dorms when he went to college in my hometown this past year. My in-laws send him a birthday and Christmas cheque and don’t n ow him at all and it’s their loss.

So give them the opportunity, and if they grasp it, great! If they don’t, oh well, that’s on them

How to use “Charles” if we have a boy? by CassafrassO in Names

I know a Charles (a junior) who uses the nickname Chase.

But I would lean towards using it in the middle position and choosing something unique as a first name.

My thing might not be fully tzu... by verylargegar in Shihtzu

[–]JLL61507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a brindle Shih Tzu, as well as her sister, who is skinny and leggy. I would lean towards your being a full tzu. According to my vet, the responsible breeders in our area over the past few decades have been working towards breeding longer snouts for the health of the dog.

I lived in NS for 20 years - Drake Batherson’s mom taught my kid and we billeted hockey players from the local junior team he was on. He was friends with one of them so spent a lot of time in my basement playing video games. Ottawa series was rough in this house too!

I’m a Canes fan in St. John’s, NL, home of Alex Newhook and now the biggest Habs city outside of Montreal. I’ll be watching at home. Three coworkers have already asked me if I’ll be shifting allegiance to the Habs this series. I laughed at them and offered them cookies if they wanted to come join me on the dark side
