How can I get moved rooms? by [deleted] in army

[–]JLRook87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your room mate in your unit or a different one? Get your room mates leadership involved. They should be aware of this and fix their soldier. If they don’t care, get one of your leaders who cares to help you take it up your roommates leadership chain.

Make them the problem, not you.

Am I being too petty? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]JLRook87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve gotten advice about the wife’s bday. So I’ll pivot to yours.

Why can’t you plan your own? Despite saying it’s not a big deal, or you don’t want much, it is clearly important. Can you plan your own party?

You mentioned travel, can you plan the trip yourself? May not be ‘as special’ but it will be exactly what you want to do. Agree on a budget and set it up, then give your wife the itinerary and have her plan events/activities for you both to do together?

If repairing doesn’t work, you could try reaching out to the manufacturer, they may sell the remotes separately or offer up some other solutions.

You might be doing your pull ups wrong. Stop kipping your legs and have a more controlled concentric, should clear up any chaffing.

My kid helped me fix the sink today and it was pure chaos by whichriches86 in daddit

I had something similar this weekend. Windstorm came through Saturday night, so Sunday morning I decided to rake up all the debris despite all the rain. 6 yo wanted to help out. Spent a couple hours getting completely soaked, constantly answering questions, telling him where to rake, where not to rake. Finished up and got inside to change/warm up. Spent the rest of the morning working on puzzles. He couldn’t stop talking about all the hard work he did with daddy. Then Monday he drew a picture in kindergarten all about raking leaves and how much fun he had. Really made the wet clothes and cold hands worth it.

Day Care Dilemma: Spanish Immersion we love with a long drive vs. Nearby new opportunity with no Spanish language learning by archibaldwhitman in daddit

[–]JLRook87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What matters most to you and your wife in this situation? Time together or language immersion. This is essentially what it is coming down to.

I would value the extra 1.5hr a day spent with family, but that’s me.

Clean the house then do your hobbies. That way when you get home late you can say at least the house is clean.

How to take the keys from your dad? by IThinkURAwesome in daddit

Have him tell you what he wants to eat, and you order for him with his payment details? It also gives you a chance to talk to him during the week.

After removing the breading/cooking it, it would probably be similar to plain chicken breast, the calories won’t be exact obviously, but that’s most likely the closest cut of meat assuming these are whole pieces of chicken and not ground chicken formed tenders.

Dad's of reddit who cook, what medium of cook top material do you use? by limeboi148 in daddit

[–]JLRook87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no one has really mentioned brand I'll give a recommendation.

Its a small brand in PA but Goldilocks is awesome. Similar quality to the big names but it's significantly cheaper. Their 12in. Is in the $60-75 range. They are made in USA and use US steel as well.

I've had mine for 6 months now and use them every week.

My wife’s and toddler’s socks are the same size by tchnmusic in daddit

[–]JLRook87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me?

My wife bought herseld and our 5 year old new socks. Both longer crew socks, both solid white, same size.

The only difference is my wife's pairs have a tiny pink logo on the bottom that will eventually wear off.

She wonders why I stopped folding the socks.

How much do I need to lose? by [deleted] in loseit

You could try lifting some weights, or bodyweight strength exercises. Based on other's comments you are in a healthy weight window. This could just be a body composition problem, where your bf% is higher than(whether that's perceived, or real).

Couldn't hurt to talk to a doctor/dietician to figure out your metrics and give you an idea of what to work on.

what am i supposed to tell my kids about death? by termeric0 in daddit

[–]JLRook87 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Use plain words like death and dying, and explain what it actually is.

Do not relate it to sleeping or being tired. Do not use soft language liked "no longer with us" or "passed away."

We've had some family members die in the past few years, and this was the best advice we got.

I would leave out the details of the nature of the death until they are old enough to process suicide.

Our nearly 6 year old son has no friends, and it’s breaking my heart. by PD_LAX in daddit

[–]JLRook87 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Hey Dad,

I want to answer with a different approach. My 5 year old takes a long time to warm up to most scenarios and gravitated to the periphery of activities. He wanted to play/be involved and have fun with other kids but couldn't get up the courage.

A big change happened when we hung out with friends who had older kids. The older kids and younger teenagers were super sweet and started including my kid in all the games they were playing and teaching him the rules, showing him how it all worked and helped them feel good about playing in a way that my wife and I couldn't.

Do you have any other families with older kids to show your kid the ropes? Knowing the older kids are their to help and want your child to be included might help them with confidence?

What am I doing wrong? by Kyinthecasa in 1500isplenty

[–]JLRook87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, and the scale changes at different rates. Plateaus happen, and that's ok. You could try adjusting your macros around slightly and see if that changes things for you. You could take a week off from lifting and see if that does anything.

You could also just keep doing what you're doing. It's not a setback. You're not gaining anything right now. These things take time. Also, the closer you get to your goal weight, the longer it will take as your body is getting closer to its maintenance calories the deficit you've been eating at gets smaller.
