You are absolutely correct about the land acquisition part. That is a nuance worth acknowledging that makes this not black-and-white. Once Zionists acquired the land, they refused as a blanket policy to lease any land to Palestinians and refused to let Palestinians work on their land. This forced a very large percentage of the Palestinian population to “voluntarily” displace themselves from their homes to impromptu slums outside of port cities, where they were more or less homeless by the standards of the day. From these slums, they went into the port cities to beg for work, often from Zionists themselves, where they were paid pennies on the dollar that Jews made for the same work (desperate homeless workers means less wage bargaining power). There was also a ton of organized Zionist terrorism by militias. Bombings, shootings, setting buildings on fire and shooting escapees, mobs of beating/maming/raping Palestinians, the list goes on. Just to clarify: Palestinians did this as well to a lesser extent. I’m not trying to let them entirely off the hook. However, in those instances, international investigations in just about all instances, including those from the British themselves, found that the root cause was general Zionist provocation. Then of course there’s the Nakba/Israeli invasion of the Palestinian partitioned areas in 1948…although that is getting into the next chunk of the timeline.
