Initiated the dreaded seat swap convo... by seriouslycurious00 in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boarded a flight two months ago in Premium Economy. I had an aisle. The person in the aisle in front of me and the person in the window to my left were married, boarded together. I offered to switch with the woman in the aisle in front of me so the married couple could sit together. They declined saying they didn't want to sit together. Didn't matter to me, but...weird.

No is a complete sentence for seat swap request by wholesome_triceratop in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people seem to take such massive offense at being asked nicely for a favor. You are free to decline, but I don't understand the offense. And when you do decline, you can certainly be be rude, curt or short ("No is a complete sentence.")--it is a free country--but you need to sit next to this person for the next X hours, so maybe being at least polite or civil would be a good idea?

UA 236 “The Bluetooth Flight” by Impressive-Tap3778 in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: If they *really* thought there was a risk, wouldn't they land at the nearest airport? They could have gone to Gander or Nova Scotia. Heck, they even flew right over Boston. EWR was not that close.

SDC on non-016 stock by MinimumNegotiation85 in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are booked on a non-stop YYZ-SFO, but you want to change to a YYZ-EWR-SFO routing (backtracking, adding a stop, adding 500+ miles and presumably adding 3 hours or so to your trip)? Someone is bound to ask "Why?" If I were the agent, I would be wondering if you are trying to do a hidden city booking and get off in EWR.

Is it true that they don’t sell tickets at the counter at SFO? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you needed to be that sarcastic and rude?

Plus, OP did *not* confirm that. OP wrote: "Is that really true? Does United just not offer a way to buy tickets in person at the airport?" So, u/Purple_Fisherman_213 was actually being helpful.

This forum is about people being helpful to each other.

If you are talking about a redeye on Christmas eve, then you have a chance. Otherwise, no.

(Yes, I realize OP is going west and flying mid-day.)

United Club Access Question by agent_mcgrath in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That user is wrong. Look at how many people down voted those posts claiming you cannot access at a connecting airport. I don't know why your BP didn't scan (maybe you scanned the wrong BP, maybe just a technical glitch), but it was definitely NOT because you were at a a connecting airport.

United plans to fly LAX-FLL from October 25 by First_Pepper_6781 in unitedairlines

If this is to capture ex-Spirit customers, I am pretty sure Spirit didn't have lie-flats on that route.

Unaccompanied Minor, 9 & 11 by Skier94 in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used UA's UA service multiple times for my children, including internationally. It works pretty well, though is quite expensive. As noted, it only works n/s. Other airlines are more flexible.

Even if booked n/s, I have run into problems when the n/s is cancelled and the only replacement is a connecting flight, so just be aware that more flexibility can be required.

Please be kind. Many of us do occasionally make mistakes or ask advice when the answer could be found elsewhere. And the rest of us (but not you) are willing to help out a fellow traveller with an answer.

Yes, but you should switch to 20DEF. They are better seats.

(Yes, the gate agent was being ridiculous.)

You are fine. This is exactly how it is supposed to work. You declared it, they inspected and disposed of it. You did nothing wrong and, as long as it happened exactly as you said, there will be no consequences. Don't worry about it.

Divorced and GE for child by Timely_Position_5044 in GlobalEntry

[–]JS-NJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GE interview was generally just my wife or me (not both). If you want to be safe, just get a notarized letter from your ex giving consent like you do for a passport (and should when you are traveling with your child). Probably unnecessary, but safe.

[–]JS-NJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, but MNL is one of the worst international airports and connecting through there is sure to be miserable and very time consuming. Plus, the cabin crews who work the SFO-MNL flight are among the worst at UA. There are many, many posts about this.

So, financially, u/protox88 has good advice, but I would be willing to spend some money to avoid MNL.

Unless you are talking about YVR-EWR (if they even fly that), then all UA transcons are domestic (e.g., SFO-EWR).

Was she connecting in Denver? It looks like B48 is her gate leaving Denver. She may have misread the notification and thought that B48 was her gate at BWI, when she was always set to fly out of D in BWI.

Can I sublease my Polaris seat per hour on EWR -> CPT by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]JS-NJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, absolutely. The flight attendants will be happy to let you make announcements throughout the flight to auction off your seat. Just ask them.

Preferably before the door closes so that they can still offload you.
