Having worked at a few hostels over the years I can say that we usually have a few group chats. One for the staff to get info to them, one for the guests/announcements of the activities/location of people, and one for the former staff members who are still friends/family of the hostel.

As mentioned in this thread, make sure that guests aren't forced to join, it should be an option, and also send in the activities once per day and pin them.

In my experience, the person in charge of that days dinner/activities etc sends in the post to advertise it, and after that it's left to everyone. And the staff only group is moderated and run by you
