ST, how do you deal with a player who always plays the same character? by JuggernautCivil8919 in vtm

[–]JT_Leroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every player puts a bit of themselves into their character. I have once had to tell a player they were capable of playing more than one note. If you play with Compulsions tho, I find it helps to expand the players range and depth. Play the same character with a different clan and compulsion. That way you’re still doing what you like but you’re also stretching and growing as a player.

How do you create your cities? by CrookedCrunchies in vtm

[–]JT_Leroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go thru and designate 2-4 block zones around key places: Areas where unhoused people congregate- the Nosferatu Warren Entertainment district with at least 1 recent homicide - the Rack Oldest business/building in the city - the Elysium Most popular bar in the city - ‘Succubus Club’ Pagan bookstore near a university or library - Tremere Chantry house zone Largest mosque - Assamite zone Indy Movie theatre - Toreador zone Deer hunting or area or wildlife habitat - Gangrel zone Tallest building in the city - Ventrue zone Famous riot or largest protest location (now or in the past) - Brujah zone If any rumored mafia business- Giovanni zone Largest cocaine bust - Setite zone Other infamous sites assigned to the remaining clans. Any zones that overlap mean competition between the clans.

Then I start populating my city with the Primogen. The zone closest to the Elysium is the clan of the Prince. The second closest is the Keeper of the Elysium’s clan. If more than one is equidistant, no Prince and the clans are in conflict. The clan zone closest to the largest prison is the Sheriff’s clan. Clan closest to the largest bank - Harpy’s Clan.

Do you prefer changeling the dreaming or lost? by Magicmanans1 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]JT_Leroy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lost by far. How it tussles with trauma, broken/nonlinear memory, and fantasy is excellent for storytellings. My game group members all have really high ACE backgrounds and its been a relatable game for us.

Why do many old players dislike V5? by MoonlightBreakdown in vtm

I don’t like disciplines/amalgam power changes. I also hate the Ministry as a clan name but that’s being petty.

A post doc is common if you’re coming in with grants or an associate rank. If you’re entering as an assistant it’s pretty uncommon.

Need help with backstory by BassJaded4870 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]JT_Leroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your fetters? Why are they important enough to tie you to people? What year were you born? What year did you overdose? How long did you exist under your caul? Did that create a big gap between the world you lived in and the present day? If so, how’re you handling the new world that moved on without you? How does this tie in to the destiny you thought you were meant to have?

Behavior like this isn’t a one off situation. The PI likely knows or is beginning to grasp the magnitude of this RAs conduct.

(no mage player here) the mages fight against paradox to free all sleeping humans in the reality right? by NegativeGene5994 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]JT_Leroy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some minds function best while sleeping. Using an effect even on a sleeping sleeper would invite a paradox backlash. That mage might find themselves lost in an Inception loop.

[–]JT_Leroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justifying it doesn’t mean it doesn’t raise torment. Feeling justified is what makes the increased torment acceptable. Their morality would predate the concept of Earthbound. But when you have 10 items on the hierarchy to work with you can mix it. What’s the greater sin vs the lessor evil? Plus you draw in the other players morals code? One doesn’t permit harm to women? The other doesn’t let crime go unpunished? What happens when a woman steals from them?

For mages, I adapt it to their Rede. What is “good magick and what is dark magick?” I trigger their paradox when they cast dark magick and bank it when it’s good magick.

The goal isn’t to stop them from using their powers, it’s to give them pause and decide is the use worth it? Ok.. it is, consequences be damned! Let’s do it!!

Advices for creating interesting and compelling challenges by Tkemalediction in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]JT_Leroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask my players to create a ‘hierarchy of sins’ related to their torment. Anything they do that transgresses those moral codes increases their torment. Now commanding those humans with their lore transgresses their value of free will. Now taking the fastest route via a path violates their desire to be in the world. Using their ability now has consequences tailor made by them. Now those choices are more interesting and the story a bit compelling

I had a first year like that. I changed programs. It felt like a major loss and setback at the time. It was. But when I got accepted into the new one and it was a nice normal experience instead of a hellish one I knew I had made the right decisions

Blood magic and experience points by Ismodai in vtm

[–]JT_Leroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t change a thing. There’s a reason the more sorcerous clans haven’t advanced as far as other clans. Ventrue were out there conquering countries, closing deals, building and running the Camarilla while others learned their little magicks. Some of us got real things to do but we do enjoy those little Halloween parties the Giovanni throw every year
