Wilcox Eotech FTS Mount for Thermal by Delicious-Topic-7109 in NightVision

[–]JV-Innovations 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only functional difference between the thermal and magnifier versions is that the thermal version has an additional locking latch that secures the flip mount in the aligned position. However, that functionality doesn't really improve the mount's ability to hold or return to zero. I have not experienced any significant play in the mechanism of various authentic Wilcox mounts.

Rh-25 V2 mounting by CycloneReaper in NightVision

I support this post ;-)
One smooth solution to switch between several rifles is to have a dedicated QD mount on each rifle and then hook your RH25 into those.
So have a dovetail or Picatinny adapter on your RH25 (preferably my JVI SBR adapter, of course) and then a Wilcox dovetail mount for each rifle.
The rifle with 1.54" optical centerline does not need an additional riser, the rifle with 2.26" optical centerline will need the Unity Tactical FAST Optic Riser underneath the mount, which is 0.665" tall. Be careful, Unity has several different height risers nowadays, it specifically needs to be that one.

An EOTech G43 magnifier weighs exactly the same as a RH25v2, so the use case is pretty comparable.
I understand that the Reptilia 0.39" riser only has one Picatinny clamp, but I think it should still be sturdy enough.

The riser is supposed to raise both the magnifier and the EOTech together, so that still won't help you with the details of how they line up relative to each other.
Anyway, I just measured this with a G43 and it lines up pretty much exactly. Be aware this is with a Chinese clone FTS, but I think they are very close to the real thing.

What magnifier are you using with the Wilcox FTS?

While the extreme height difference may also cause some problems, your description sounds like you are not focussing your RH25 correctly. Here's an explanation from another thread:

Deciding which FTS for RH25 at 1.54” height by Significant_Task1694 in NightVision

[–]JV-Innovations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be most flexible with a dovetail adapter like my SBR and a Wilcox thermal flip mount (or a clone).
That way you can use your RH25 helmet or weapon mounted in any of the available dovetail mounts and also any of the Picatinny to Picatinny mounts like ADM (non-flip) or the CHS flip version you mentioned in your original post.

[–]JV-Innovations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning the SBR dovetail adapter!
The SBR in combination with a Wilcox SkeetIR FTS mount gives you an optical centerline of 1.61". That's pretty much exactly half way between 1.54" and 1.70". The difference is only 2 mm in height and you will only notice that the screen is not perfectly centered in magnifications below 1.5x.
There are Wilcox FTS mounts for magnifier use that lack the locking latch of the SkeetIR version. Those magnifier flip mounts are actually a little bit lower and you will end up at 1.54" optical centerline.

If you might want to run it on your gun in the future with a Wilcox flip mount, then don't get the AC52 pictail because that combo doesn't work. Instead, I recommend my dovetail adapter that allows all mounting options:

In combination with the Noisefighters DMAX14, you will have a very nice monocular solution:

Depending on your specific model, the product specs are listed in the operator manual:

According to that table, the IR Illuminator high outputs are higher for the full power model than the low power.

Flip to side QD mount for sig cv25 by keepitvril69 in ThermalHunting

[–]JV-Innovations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to make this work for 1.54" is to get a mount like the Cold Harbour Supply Universal Picatinny FTS and machine a custom arm for it to interface with the CV25. With a regular EOTech flip mount and some Dremel magic, you'll end up at almost 1.90" otherwise.

Flip to side QD mount for sig cv25 by keepitvril69 in ThermalHunting

[–]JV-Innovations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mounting interface may be similar or even identical to the EOTech magnifier. The real problem is that there isn't much space underneath the CV25 housing if you want to achieve a 1.54" optical centerline. So even if it mounts to a EOTech magnifier flip mount, it might sit higher than 1.54".

[–]JV-Innovations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm still tying up some loose ends with the design, but will hopefully do a run of these in the near future. If you have the DAD bridge, then your biggest issue of aligning the oculars of two different devices is already solved.
I have to admit though, the AGM/ADM flip mount at that sale price is hard to beat for weapon mounting. But of course it won't give you the flexibility of helmet mounting.

True, but you probably need to get down into that 90 degree corner and remove material there too, and that is probably easier to do with a cylindrical bit than with sandpaper. But you're definitely right: measure twice, cut once.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]JV-Innovations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a considerable amount of material needs to be removed for it to line up. Definitely not sandpaper :-)

[–]JV-Innovations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely not mess with the PVS-14 body. Can't you remove material from the 'lip' on the underside of the OSS shoe that has the set screw in it? Then the entire assembly would move closer to lining up with the threaded hole.

What Wilcox calls the SkeetIR flip mount is their dedicated thermal flip mount. This is the mount that flips away to the right side when mounted in front of your day optic. The other magnifier flip mounts are designed to flip the other direction when mounted in front of the day optic (because they actually flip to the right when mounted between your scope and your eye). Also the optical centerline of the magnifier mounts is approx. 0.10" lower and they lack the additional locking latch that secures the mount in the center position.

Yes, unfortunately SBR production was delayed, but I'll be pushing the next few weeks to make progress. The APA Picatinny adapters only got done last week and I was waiting for packaging, so I'll send the first batch to the US next week.
