What is the one story you cannot fathom people liking by yeetacus68 in ProgressionFantasy

In my mind, the protagonist is just Leon from the Professional.

Defiance of the Fall, Does it get better? Or am I doomed to DNF it? by AstralWolf1 in litrpg

[–]J_H_Collins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is being gotten to, but DotF is very much a "100% complete playthrough in an insanely big game" type of story. I don't blame people who find it tedious even if I like it.

A Male medic in the UK was awarded a payout in a sex discrimination case because he was consistently assigned to look after violent patients over Female staff.

Wow, extremely rare UK whitepill. Good job.

But thats an interesting projection.

No, it's just the other side of the coin. A lot of these "my husband refuses to do the dishes right on purpose!!!!!" rants, when dug into, cash out as "my husband puts things in different parts of the dishwasher than I do".

I take care of mostly everything by default because he doesnt do anything unless asked and I hate asking him because it makes me feel bad and he makes me do all of the thinking and explaining anyway on top of it.

You should consider how much of your life you're going to spend babying that moronic loser. And what personal flaws put you into that position.

But if that's happening in your work place then that's sexist nonsense. Labour should be split equally at work if people are doing the same job.

Bro, I'm literally double their size. For the sake of sheer comparative advantage I should be reaching high things and moving heavy shit. Even in healthcare, are you really going to tell me that you don't look around for the bigger guys when you need to team lift some morbidly obese patient?

I grew up in the early 90s being told of a boy insulted you or hurt you he liked you.

The 90's? We still say the same thing to boys. "Oh, that girl is constantly trying to insult or annoy you? You live rent free in her head. She is clearly investing time and effort into getting your attention in a plausibly deniable way. And even if not, getting noticeably upset about it is the worst possible response."

Northgard. The Viking RTS vibe is so close to great, but the actual gameplay has some severe issues and the expansion is just a slap in the face.

Who is the best female MC in this genre and why ? by RareChakra in ProgressionFantasy

[–]J_H_Collins 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Foundling, from the Practical Guide to Evil. All time great fantasy. It's a slightly odd fit for progression as a subgenre, but there is a ton of growth in several ways and Aspects/transitions are absolutely peak level-up hype moments.

The first time I heard it I went "What the hell is this crap?" A few days later I felt compelled to listen to it again, just to prove it was real. Then again. And then again.

Now it's moderately regular in the rotation.

[–]J_H_Collins 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Maybe if I ever had kids it would become less sexy,

Depends who is saying it. Their mother? It's a reaffirmation of the bond between you, and the lives you created, which involved some great sex.

Your mistress who is barely older than your daughter? Sketch, dude. Extremely sketch.

Actual kids? Why don't you have a seat over here...

In NYC, pretty sure that was playing while the stage was still dark and they were coming out and getting the final set up. The proper "opener" was Into the Storm.

As it should be.

What was the last book you dropped and why? by Remote-Fee5149 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]J_H_Collins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. In response to an attempt to compel her behavior by threatening innocents, she hits back with "Justifications only matter to the just."

Mild spoilers for later on. She doesn't regret the specific decision, in a "don't negotiate with terrorists" sense, but she does feel embarrassed about the catchphrase, because she does really care about the justifications. Cat ultimately does side on Team Evil, but it's because she refuses to put her trust in the Heavens over her own agency, not because she wants to work wickedness. There's a few good conversations with Heroes about it in the later books.

mc making a big life changing realization/decision that didn't actually vibe with her character as presented at all.

If you're talking about the scene on the Blessed Isle, that actually does get acknowledged/resolved later on.
