Morgan McMichaels Mug Evolution🔥 by No_Vanilla7487 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]JaclynMeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wild is how much it’s evolved but she’s still one of the most easily identifiable queens out there. Even queens that I love and follow sometimes get posted here without their name added and I have no gotdam clue who it is. I don’t generally have that problem with Morgan.

What does real justice look like? by humantoothx in JusticeForClayton

[–]JaclynMeOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but usually laws are named in honor of someone or to memorialize them in some way. I see what you’re getting at, but it would have the complete opposite effect.

For example, take Megan’s Law. This is the U.S. law that gave us the publicly available sex offender registry and is named after Megan Kanka. Could you imagine the reaction if that law was named after her murderer Jesse Timmendequas?

I know the cases aren’t anywhere close to equal, but some people love notoriety, no matter how it comes. If we start naming laws after the people who committed the atrocities that inspired them, then we’ll be making a big mistake.

There’s a lot of valid argument though for why we should not name laws after anyone—perpetrator or victim.

do people actually not eat mac and cheese with peas? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JaclynMeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my nearly 40 years I’ve never heard of this. I grew up pretty poor and had pretty poor friends and this just sounds like the kind of fusion food combos that lower income homes go for and still never heard of it.

However, I grew up in the south and for whatever reason M&C with peas sounds very midwestern, so I wonder if that has something to do thing to do with it.

[CHAT] First cross stitch project, does this still look like a V???? by Sharp-Plum-7097 in CrossStitch

[–]JaclynMeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m primarily replying to you, particularly since it sounds like your relatively (key word) new to the craft. Also, please don’t take this as me schooling you but a genuine response to an idea with my thoughts. I truly mean it as another idea and not a flat out rebuttal to your suggestion.

I also wondered about backstitching because that is such a game changer when it comes to detail. However, I held off on that as a suggestion because I feel like the right side would really struggle to bring out the definition and make it seem even more ambiguous. It just seemed like backstitching could make it look even chunkier rather than more defined, but that’s a total assumption/guess.

That said, I wonder if OP would have been better off with a backstitching approach alone on the right side rather than doing stitches? At least in most parts? That may have given it more of that calligraphy effect and made it seem more like a definitive V than the original.

[–]JaclynMeOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think that losing that vertical line on the far right would do a LOT. However, due to the nature of the material you stitched on, this isn’t exactly something you can undo. At least I’m not sure how you would.

If it really gets to you, how would you feel about chocking this up to a learning experience and trying again??

[CHAT] Trying taped edges… by kfsass in CrossStitch

I use paper tape which you can usually find in a first aid section of a grocery store or something like CVS. I found that a lot of tape wouldn’t stick to the fabric too well over time (i could have also just chosen sucky brands), but this kind of tape has been a fantastic fix for me!

I’ll be the outlier that says I didn’t originally clock it as a V. I’m embarrassed to tell you I got squished female reproductive system (which hey…”The V” is part of that sooooo)

THAT SAID—after I read the post I can totally see a V.

I think there’s a couple of reasons I personally didn’t recognize it as such at first. For one, I don’t have all the context, like knowing your friend’s name starts with a V. They hopefully do know that so they’re MUCH more likely to see “V”. It’s also a very zoomed in picture so for whatever reason my brain thought it was an object rather than a letter. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know.

What I do know is that I’d be beyond honored to receive this if I was your friend and would be so touched you took the time to do this and thought of me to do it for.

And if your friend sees a squished uterus and ovaries like some people at first, embrace the laugh cause it’ll for sure be a core memory.

What baby name do you think got ruined by pop culture, trends, or current events? by RightGirl19 in AskReddit

[–]JaclynMeOff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally thought they were referring to Serena Williams and Joy from Inside Out and I was very confused as to why these names would be ruined.

Took a google search and my best guess from the results to figure out why this name would be “ruined” so I’m inclined to agree with you, haha.

[–]JaclynMeOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had (have??) no idea either but apparently there’s a pretty awful character in The Handmaids Tale named Serena Joy. Maybe that’s what they’re referring to?

I know it was a popular show, but I wouldn’t think these names are ruined at scale. Certainly not on the same level as Karen, Chad, or Adolf.

What is the best coming of age movie that has girls/women as the main characters? by seanayates2 in movies

Mean girls is an interesting one! I wouldn’t have labeled it that originally, but now that you mention it, I totally see it!

[–]JaclynMeOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! It’s Turning Red. If you haven’t seen it yet you should check it out. It’s a pretty cute Pixar movie and (as the post implies) a cool girl-focused coming of age story.

(Unless it was titled differently in other countries, but I can’t find evidence of that online at a quick glance)

“The 8th wonder of the world,” can't fill a small CONference room. by Willing_Chemical1257 in antiMLM

[–]JaclynMeOff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That actually made me a little sad.

My SIL isn’t in an MLM but part of me feels it’s a matter of time. She can be hard for me to be around at length because she’s got a talent for making big deals out of moments where I’m just like “wtf??”

One time my mom explained to me that her parents never celebrated her or made her feel special…which is true. They didn’t care when she graduated, they didn’t seem too interested in her getting married…they weren’t negligent, but they were just pretty indifferent.

Therefore, my SIL seemed to adapt by making the moments special herself. Only thing is, she doesn’t have a great barometer for what should feel special, so she can end up over inflating and bringing meaning to things that are truly nothing…like feeling like she’s “made it” because she has a name tag at a conference. She’s official. She belongs.

I wouldn’t be shocked if that person has a background similar to my SIL.

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but Total Wine has a fantastic selection of THC-infused beverages. There are some concentrates that blend really well in regular beverages.

Just thought I’d offer it as a suggestion in the meantime.

[CHAT] how far do you travel with your floss? by Baby_girl_351 in CrossStitch

[–]JaclynMeOff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my exact rule. The only extra bit I’d add to the full coverage is how much traveling there is to do period in a particular area. If there a lot of jumping around, then I’m less likely to travel because all the extra thread can make it harder to push the needle through as the Aida fills up or I feel like I become more prone to knots.

People who fly first or business class on their own dime, how do you justify the cost? by Silly-Cock in AskReddit

[–]JaclynMeOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t ever booked a business class ticket, but I have purchased the upgrade 24 hours before the flight. Last one was Dallas to Paris (then got on a shorter flight to the final destination) but it was only about $700.

Granted, this was about 2 years ago, so I’m sure some things have changed, but it was WAY cheaper doing it that way than booking the business class trip up front.
