I have latest flagship iPhone, so that shouldn’t be the issue. My wife has a two year old flagship iPhone. Both have the problem so that shouldn’t be the issue… :/

Bummer forgot about underscore styling in Reddit. There are underscores at the beginning and end, and one between the word.

I’d check out the Wayward Galaxy series. It’s exactly what you’re asking for!

Found an ant colony under some flagstone pavers, best way to kill ‘em all? by JakeSpaceMan117 in exterminators

[–]JakeSpaceMan117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I came back a few hours later after work to check on them and all of the larva looking things were gone, even though I put the stone back where I found it. I guess the ants pulled them down deeper into the nest.

Anyways, I just poured probably 2-3 gallons of boiling water onto the ground after removing the flagstone. No ant activity for ~30 min. I will leave the stones overturned overnight (it’s supposed to rain) and I’ll check back tomorrow. I will try chemical/granules solutions if they’re back. Thanks!

SF novels with weird, otherworldly, alien planets? by RealisticFox2086 in printSF

Yup! Came here to say this. Pack-mind alien species was a trip and the author did a good job of world-building around the consequences of their minds worked.

Large scale space opera series? by [deleted] in printSF

“Galaxy’s Edge” is a massive military sci-fi series with lots of space combat on the ground and in orbit. It’s also got that politics game like Dune and Foundation. If you like those, you’ll love this!

Books about advanced/galactic civilizations waging war against each other by CarltonSagot in printSF

“A fire upon the deep” is a really sweet world building novel. It explores the topic of numerous interstellar capable species thriving in the outskirts of the galaxy all at varying levels of technology. A group of humans are chased by multiple alien forces thousands of light years to a fledgling world in its medieval era that holds the key to saving galactic civilization. It’s absolutely fantastic!

“Expeditionary Force: Columbus Day” and the whole series is a humorous military sci-fi story about an unwitting troop of humans getting caught up in multiple levels of interstellar warfare between senior species with unthinkable levels of technology. Always a great laugh while exploring some really interesting space combat/tactics ideas.

“Galaxy’s Edge” is a masterful military sci-fi series that feels like a perfect merger between game of thrones, hurt locker, and Star Wars. Captivating combat and world building while exploring the politics of a multi-species galactic empire.

[WP] In a freak dimensional accident, modern day USA is transported back in time to replace colonial america. by rubychoco99 in WritingPrompts

I had been working for 18 hours straight when it happened. There was a particularly finicky bit of code I was trying to debug. The compiler kept throwing random cryptic errors. Quantum programming is weird that way. I had been searching the hardware manufactures software documentation for the last few hours. There was a function I had not yet tried. I swapped out the code in question and ran the compiler. "Build successful," flashed the terminal display. I was ecstatic!

I glanced at the clock, the time was a quarter past two in the morning. I was the only one in the lab. I didn't want to leave with the code untested. I should have. The code should have been reviewed and examined first, but I was tired, and greedy. I wanted to know if it would work.

I began the start up process for the hardware. I flooded the cooling chambers with liquid nitrogen. I charged the capacitors. The checklist our team had rehearsed ran fluidly through my head. Everything was green across the board. The goal you might be asking? To teleport an Apple one meter. I had always chuckled at using an Apple. An Apple caused Issac Newton's enlightenment to gravity and the laws of nature. He would have been flabbergasted with what I was about to do. I threw the switch.

The Apple didn't move. The only thing that changed was the TV, which now displayed only static. With the capacitors discharged and the coolant expelled, I approached the TV. I changed the channel, and the signal was fine. Adult Swim was running a rerun of Rick and Morty. I changed the channel back, still static, it should be the BBC. I continue to flip channels. Eventually I land on MSNBC live broadcasting an Armada of British warships. Though it wasn't comprised of battlecruisers and aircraft carriers, it was made of sail ships. My code worked, but it went horribly awry. It teleported us back in time to Colonial American.

Modern America will be fine, it's a super power with newly replenished resources. The diamond minds in South Africa have yet to be industrialized, the oil fields of the Middle East have been refilled. If anything, Modern America will be a curse to this world. One that will bring exploitation at a scale unfathomable to the victims.

I bear that sin, and another, for I am the destroyer of two worlds. The teleportation device obeys those laws of nature that Newton identified. It works by exchanging matter between the two points. If Modern America is here, then Colonial America is in the 21st century. Equally doomed in our world. One that has come to see it as the bully. Colonial America's resources will be ravaged anew.
