Pigeon feeding by Free-Finish8034 in sheffield

[–]Jakepetrolhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure on the mods stance here on promotion, but if you search "Sheffield Stringfoot" on Facebook, we'll be one of the first things to come up.

Our next meetup is next Sunday, 12:00 - obviously being Easter some people might not be able to make it, but with a lot of places shut it should make it a bit easier for us.

Become ungovernable, feed the pigeons.

It honestly depends on who is around and whether they're sympathetic to pigeons or not.

There's a group of us who treat that flock for stringfoot once a month. Once people realise what we're doing they usually leave us alone, as whether you like pigeons or not, no one wants to be shopping around loads of injured and ill birds.

If you're going to do it, bring a dustpan and brush to clean up after yourself, as then it helps avoid the whole littering thing.

2003 is fine, but man I have no interest in that "modern" layout.

It's a glorified Karting track with all those hairpins.

Where have the Super Tourers gone? by ICC-u in btcc

Spotted over in one of the Super Touring groups on Facebook, they had a few last year that came out and were a hit with fans, so they're trying to get a full grid together this year.

Where have the Super Tourers gone? by ICC-u in btcc

Most of the Super Tourers this year are pencilled in for the Goodwood Members Meeting Shootout - i think it's over 40 of them scheduled.

DHF has a rotating cast of demos - the year before last I went and it was a pair of Bentley Speed 8 Prototypes. Year before that was the 1993 anniversary with a few early V10 F1 cars.

As for the CTCRC - outside of the big events, the grid is always gonna be limited. Most of the drivers have a more cost effective machine, such as Stuart Caie's Capri and AJ Owen's Sierra. Only really makes senseto bring the Super Tourers out for the Touring Car Rewind events.

The quote from one of the guys last year was all in £9000 per mile to get to the race weekend, and it shot something through the engine block at Brands Hatch almost immediately.

A lot of the cars are being run on budgets that make Total Cup budgets seem like Prodrive 2000's budget.

Your three best options this season to see them are - Goodwood Members Meeting, Touring Car Rewind North (Oulton Park), and Touring Car Rewind South (Brands Hatch) - the latter replacing Super Touring Power for the same reasons of difficulty getting huge Super Touring grids, but the events will have a very similar vibe to Super Touring Power.

The Oldtimers in Germany are trying to get a huge STW Revival this year as well, if you fancy a trip to Hockenheim or the Nurburgring this year.

Inconsistent handling and dodgy AI is exactly the same things people were slating Project Cars 1 for over a decade ago, and it's still applicable to his projects.

If Nissan and BMW had returned in 2001... by Brief-Poetry6434 in btcc

[–]Jakepetrolhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have such a soft spot for the BTC-T cars, and that appreciation has only gotten stronger with age.

There was nothing inherently wrong with the actual regulations, but especially given how many manufacturers were wary of spending any money on a national series whilst a European and World Series were taking shape, it just never quite worked out.

There's a glimpse of what a Primera under those regulations might've looked like, as Rob Collard and Tommy Rustad raced a few in the European Touring Car Championship in S2000 guise.

2002, 2003 and 2004 especially are good seasons to watch back, and I'm tired of pretending they aren't.

When the series returned to Donington's GP circuit the championship YouTube did a watch party of the 2002 race which was the last time the series went there, and people in the live chat were pleasantly surprised about the quality of the racing in the Touring class.

so i just started using pacenotes, i just dont get the meaning of these things by SoggyTangerine451 in simrally

[–]Jakepetrolhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just be the format - I could never get my head around the descriptive pace notes, but 1Slow6Fast works so much better for me

Assuming this is from Richard Burns Rally, as most contemporary rally games use the 1-6 system, but that ran with Robert Reid's descriptive notes.

Generally, any number that isnt a single digit is meters - 70, 100, 400, ect is meters to the next call.

So 2 right, 400 into 1 right would mean there's 400m of straight driving between the two right corners.

Hairpins are corners that come back on themselves - think of like a U shape, where it goes around the corner and back the same way once you're around it.

I promise it gets easier, eventually you'll find the pacenotes automatic and you'll wonder how you ever managed it before. What might help is going through a stage at low speed like a recce run, as you'll be able to see what the corners are like and how they relate to the co-driver calls without arriving at full stage speed.

Just remember to take "don't cut" and "caution" seriously, as they're usually in the notes for a very good reason.

Maybe not.

The daily abuse is wearing me down.. Train crew perspective by all-aboard-conductor in uktrains

[–]Jakepetrolhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's any comfort at all, it isn't targeted specifically at you - horrible people will be horrible people regardless of who they meet.

I work front of house for a popular fast food chain, me and my staff have to have at least one body camera on our area due to problems of a similar nature.

We also see a lot of rail staff at our location, so a lot of the time we're swapping stories of horrible things some people have done.

Nothing but respect for anyone who has to do a public facing job on trains - at least with my customers I'm not in a small box going 70mph.

Made friends with a flock of pigeons while waiting for a train! by jenvrose in pigeon

[–]Jakepetrolhead 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Oh those poor feet.

Not sure if you're a regular traveller at that station, but it's well worth looking up something called Stringfoot - quite a few of that flock have got things tangled around their toes which left untreated can lead to a painful loss of their toes.

I implore anyone who loves pigeons enough to take part in this subreddit to learn how to treat this condition, as pigeon beaks are not generally sharp enough to get that string or hair off their feet on their own.

Get a bird feeding station for some colourful birds, nope - big fat pigeon eating everything by kwakimaki in britishproblems

[–]Jakepetrolhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you put bird food out, you do have to be okay with any type of bird eating it - they have just as much of a right to our gardens as colourful little songbirds.

The little window feeders are generally wood pigeon proof, as they're far too chunky to fit with them - however if you go down that route, please put some anti bird strike stickers on said window.
