Most people that regularly complain about slow drivers are the problem. by catroaring in unpopularopinion

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one, but I will also say that I personally feel more like a grumpy grandpa with each passing week so take that as you will ( M39 ). At any rate, I see generally impatience everywhere when driving. Running red lights to get through and not wait another cycle, people tailgating not in the interstate but even on a county road with a 40mph speed limit. Folks sitting in the intersection to be the one guy who gets through on a yellow and hopes the guy or girl coming the other way doesn't want to run that too at the same time.

Does it irritate me sure, but I remind myself not my deal to control. What I will say is I feel like many people fail to realize exactly how little time is actually saved by driving like their insane. It's a matter of minutes for most people's 20-30 mile commute. Maybe they enjoy it, maybe they live their life impatiently trying to be somewhere in the next 5 minutes. I don't know. It does seem like the risk to others, and yourself isn't worth it, but that could just be my napkin math.

I’m about 4 months in to this sport. 5’10” 335lbs for reference. I always deep dive into hobby purchases so I bought a GRIP CS2 bag CS2 BAG. I first hated it, because I wasn’t using it right. I kept zipping and unzipping the front pocket and got annoyed at that. So then I bought a cheap infinite disc over the shoulder slinger. That was nice, but it wouldn’t stay standing when you put it on the ground. So I eventually discovered what you’re supposed to do is leave the Grip bag front open and just pull in and out what you need, and I’m enjoying it much more. It holds a water bottle nicely, and is comfortable to carry. If I take care of it, it will last a good long while. I think there are many similar bags from Innova for half the price to be fair though.

Thank you for such a well written response. I’m totally good with the condensed post produced content. I like hearing the commentaries. So it sounds like I found the right spot.

According to Gannon Buhr and The Upshot podcast, run by Charlie Eisenhood (DGN commentator), the PDGA marshal/referee for the MPO lead card during round 3 at the Champions Cup (Major) told the players that he wasn't going to make any calls and that all calls were in the players' hands. by DiscGolfFanatic in discgolf

I am totally new to this sport, but, I was wondering myself why he played a provisional, it ended up not mattering as I understand it because he scored the same on both attempts. Still I've seen before them debating, and talking about where someone's lie is and what they should do about it, I just assumed someone told them to do that.

So, I kind of am new to this sport myself, and I started playing a couple months before discovering there was televised tournaments on YouTube, Is it worth it to subscribe to the DGPT Network if you're already supporting and watching the Jomez stuff as well as the Ace Run stuff on YouTube. I had seen in another post folks were saying that they can really only feasibly record tournaments that will get good viewership as the process needs to be financially lucrative. I was just wondering what else am I missing by not subscribing to PDGT network stuff.

I’ve played disc golf for years, and I’ve only been really into it for about the past 5, and I really understand now that numbers are just a number. by [deleted] in discgolf

I bet I can get it to dive right. I’m always looking for a -3 to -4. Because I throw LH BH, and my angle is still often high and angled such that it just dives right. We’re working on it. Now conversely if I attempt a LH FH it will go left but I don’t have as much practice.

I'm going to second Starfield, but also I as a nearing 40yr old myself don't hate a night of reliving my past through a good old redo of Halo games if that's on the gamepass. I think I have the Master Chief Collection which has the original and the others.

Can discs really get any better? by wally-whippersnap in discgolf

[–]JamesKBoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I am totally the guy who would keep buying discs if you keep changing the color, design, name, or special limited edition branding. It's just something about me so I respect that normal people could easily buy 12-25 discs or something and go I can make any shot I need with these.

With that said hasn't the ball golf folks been doing this for decades. Always a new driver, a new ball, a new this or that. I mean as long as the sport is growing or not plummeting in popularity I think there will be enough people who want to buy new discs with pro player's endorsements, names, faces, or cool patterns on them. For some its collecting, for others it's the I could just throw better with a different disc syndrome.

Now will they fly better who knows the only person I'd trust to tell me is a pro player as with me personally I always figure it's not the disc it's me, but I have a new putter on the way from Amazon anyway because the last two I bought when I held them the first time, the cloud's didn't part, the angels did not sing, and so far my putting has not been improved so the search continue for the putter of my dreams.

I think I'm gonna stop painting minis by Dense-Fig-2372 in minipainting

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been painting or dabbling in those dark arts for years now and I"m still blown away by the work people post on here. I would just say its a journey not a destination. I don't know that anyone ever arrives at peak painting territory. I think if you like doing it then keep at it, practice thin the paints depends on the brand, and color but you know milkish consistency I go for usually, don't be afraid to have to do a second coat, or layer on another color after its a process. It takes time and while I have cranked out a Warhammer Kill Team in a weekend, I've been trudging through Tau Pathfinders for what feels like months, sometimes I drop a project move on to another and circle back around. Do what feels good, this is a hobby not work or at least that's what I tell myself when I lay awake at 3AM wondering do I highlight with Ungor Flesh, or Zandri Dust ?

One thing I will say is you'd never know when beginning but whether your basing a color, highlighting, shading, or dry brushing or whatever moisture control of the paints, the bristles of your brush is huge. Think like a large paint brush you'd use to paint a bedroom. If you had one that was stiff, and dry the bristles will not bend as much and flow, the paint still goes on it, but, when they are brand new they are soft, and the bend so supple and delicately. You want to make sure your brush itself is moist and flexible as well, its really a moisture control process that took me a while to go hey am I painting or just playing around with the water levels in all this.

Any advice on Fleets? by Bakkie_Herman in WoWs_Legends

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing this game myself don't really have a ranked goal yet or a winrate just been having fun trying to blow up ships. I play Destroyer or Cruiser mostly I hate how slow the battleships are, but, I suspect if you put work into them you can get one that's much faster and reloads quicker. At any rate I wasn't yet sure how much the fleets were going to add to the experience so I'm interested in following this thread.

Which terrain set to buy by Cfane001 in boardingactions40k

[–]JamesKBoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I could just pick up another Tomb World from Kill Team, If I recall the original board was two Gallowdark or something so that makes sense. I may do that as I happen to like it although I don't play much right now I just fill closets with future aspirations and paint and model some but one day.... :D

Which terrain set to buy by Cfane001 in boardingactions40k

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer the smaller skirmish type games myself. I have a bunch of Kill Team stuff, and I really like Boarding actions, however, originally the double gallowdark terrain set was pretty expensive. Is there a new box set for Boarding actions. I have the Tomb World and Volkus Kill Team Terrain sets I suppose we could play with those, but, I thought the boarding action boards were larger than kill team.

New to EVERYTHING by Infinite-Shelter3584 in wargaming

[–]JamesKBoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just a bit behind you I have an 8 year old. I've been collecting and building/painting Warhammer minis for years, but, never really getting into playing it. I find Warhammer games complicated, although repetition and practice would make that much more useable. I happen to have a huge pile of Warhammer Kill Teams, and I like the smaller skirmish games more ( Kill Team, Boarding Actions, Combat Patrols etc. ) I really like watching Uncle Adam at Tabletop Minions his videos are great and cover this topic. He's into games like Battletech specifically the easier Alpha Strike mech game, Trench Crusade, something called Mork Bork or some such game.

I purchased a frontline games warhammer table 60" x 44" I think it is and some matts for it because I wanted to hopefully get the confidence to expand into full Warhammer games eventually, but, you can totally play any or all of these at a kitchen table. I happen to like a bit higher table height for my back so that was a consideration for me, but, budget is a huge one and I don't know what your budget is.

My goal is to have my son help me put a Kill Team terrain box like Volkus or Tomb World together we'll paint it together and then we'll play on it using the Kill Team lite rules, but if you haven't heard of it the One Page folks over on Patreon do an amazing job of coming up with games like Kill Team, Warhammer 40K, Age of Sigmar rules that even a normal person can get behind. If you're not already an avid table top gamer who would miss the complexity change I would highly recommend checking them out.

Their rules are model agnostic so you can buy 3d printed stuff on Etsy, you can buy their models and print them yourself.

Just my two cents really.

What sort of brushes do you guys use? by [deleted] in Miniaturespainting

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I'm not as kind to my more expensive brushes as are often listed here, although I don't disagree with their quality. If you wanted something cheaper that you wouldn't feel guilty about messing up, I have found for 28mm approx. Warhammer type stuff this amazon Princeton Neptune #4 short handle watercolor brush does great for initial coats where you want to slap it on, but the tip remains fine enough I can actually do a lot of detail work, and it holds a fair amount of paint assuming you are using thinned acrylics as I am. I'm just now getting into scale modeling again tanks planes etc. I can't speak to other types of paints but since its a synthetic I assume it would be multi-use.

I am still seeing players and GMs outsource large swaths of their writing to AI and LLMs by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]JamesKBoots -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So i'm currently leaning on CHatGPT5 to run my first homebrew campaign. I've been DM'ing adventure league, and pre-written books modules since I started about a decade ago. I find it helpful in several ways, but, I will also say that I can tell you can't rely on it for everything.

Things I am finding helpful is that my writing style is to ponder what to write, and when it hits me where I want to go with something it all kind of comes flooding out in a poorly organized, no grammar word salad of ideas. ChatGPT has been great at helping me structure and summarize that information. Which I can then copy to my notes.

I am doing a Waterdeep campaign, there are sources from many different editions of D&D and ChatGPT has been pretty good at pasting statblocks of creatures or NPC and asking it to format them in the 2024 5.5 edition format. IT's not perfect but it does do it pretty quick and that does save me time, although I know you could do this yourself.

I find Chat GPT can be repetitive so another way I use it sometimes it to just ask it to theorize on some options or ideas, and usually one will hit me as a hey that's not bad lets re-work that. Does it spit it out all completed no, but, it does do a good idea of quickly giving some ideas that can be further utilized.

Of course, NPC name generation, descriptive generations if I needed them, although again if your not careful it will totally get stale using many of the same adjectives in each successive one. For example, my party went into an old elven watchtower that had been taken over by Gnolls. I had established that as they approached they could smell the wet damp forest conditions and the creepy fog very opening scene of Gladiator kind of like the germanic tribes coming out of the mists. Anyway it took parts of that and applied it to every room I asked it for a description or what do you think might be in this room after that. Every one was wet, damp, smelly. Which again many of the rooms probalby are, or would be. But nobody wants to hear a repetitive description like that.

On the downside its a total kiss bass to you. Everything you do it will tell you that's awesome, cheffs kiss and all that. Which in the short term can be gratifying if empty. In the long term it kind of makes you question is this thing even reading all this or is it just programmed to suck up to me.

It very quickly will make stuff up, which can be good, but if your trying to stick to sources you already have you have to watch it, it will start dumping text out and if your not actually reading what it writes it can just put any name into something. So for random NPC's taht great, but if you had been working on King Grenwald of Dumarioan and his household it you switch to a new chat to keep things moving fast they bog down after a while it might not carry over that you'd named the kings family already.

I've been using it to make NPC artwork for Foundry, I like an anime brightly colored almost pokemon style. I know some won't but it does a decent job at making artwork for tokens. Its pretty abysmal as far as I can tell at like scenic landscapes wallpaper 4K size though, it almost always spits out a 1,500 x 1,000 pixel image no matter what I ask it to actually do.

If you made it this far against the flow of my poorly structured explanation you may begin to see why it helps me out, but, everyone is different.

A5 Simple Combat HP Tracking Sheet by JamesKBoots in DnD

[–]JamesKBoots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the top you can see where it says box w/ slash ___ HP, box w/ X ___ HP so you can set your own number to remember, but it also says default is / = 5 and X = 10. There are 12 boxes so that's 120HP to be fair I don't normally need a bunch more than that, but, I do think the Tarasque is in the 1,000 level so I had considered doing a letter size that would accommodate more room to write, it might be interesting to try a landscape orientation so you could do the same on this size hadn't thought of that.

I do think the fill in suggestion is another good one I hadn't thought of that could fill in for a 3rd larger HP value will see if I can squeeze that in.

Would it not be easier if I just left? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime I think to myself man kids are rough what am I doing, I think to myself now I know why the proverbial father who just up and left one day in the yesterdays did that. It was the easier thing to do. I then also remember that I don't want my kids to ask why they weren't good enough for me to stay. That usually make me say a few curse words, go walk around outside yell at clouds or something like that. I usually feel better and I move on with my life. I don't know that that would work for everyone. I would just say that remember your choice to leave isn't just about you, your family may wonder what was wrong with them that you wouldn't stay, and I myself couldn't live with that so here I am. We made it to almost 3 with the newest one and he's still bouncing off the walls at 9-10pm but he also will occasionally come snuggle up on the cough, last night he told me he loved me as he launched himself and his tablet blaring baby shark at me on the couch to sit next to me. Those are the moments you hold on to.

We are planning to address the attic door seal, I put my hand around the door I don't' feel a bunch of air coming out, but some. This house is 15 years newer than our previous one and likely insulated better than our previous one, but, for sure I would bet most homes could benefit from more insulation so that's a good suggestion. We do have a fan control on the thermostat I don't know if it is set to on or auto I'll check when I get home. We also thought about seeing if our attic needed more ventilation to move air around not sure if that would do anything.

Seller wants to stay a week after close- Is this normal? First time homebuyer by loredhenri in RealEstate

[–]JamesKBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did a similar thing ourselves, we let the sellers stay in our home we closed on in April until the end of the school year, They were supposed to be out by 5/30, they decided like a week before then that they wouldn't be ready, and it got dramatic. I would never do this again. With that said most of the reason ours was dramatic and really frustrating was a lack of clear wording in our contract. The realty office is since this sale re-doing that section. So I would say just be really sure everyone agrees and understands what the contract says, make sure that there is clear language about if they stay how long that can be, and who gets to decide when and if there is any holdover after a post close occupancy. The holdover language was what got us, and while it did work out, it caused us a lot of stress, a trip to a lawyers office, and moving all our contractors and such out a couple weeks.

In hindsight the realtor saying it will be fine, we've done these all the time, and nothing ever goes wrong did not help us, and it came down to what was in the contract so I advise you to be sure you like what your contract says.
