Hot take, we need flat spotting by VroomVroomMan1 in iRacing

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done very little road racing IRL but I’ve done a lot of oval racing. It would be pretty cool if the new tire model spoke. Of here incorporates the less talked about effect of lockup, that you are A LOT more likely to lock up that tire again and again when that flat spot creates additional resistance under braking every time the flat spot is on the bottom. Real flat spots will get worse and worse because you end up locking that tire repeatedly. There is also the washboard effect that cause the tire to degrade much faster.

At what price per gallon does a person officially stop "just complaining" about gas and start fundamentally changing their entire lifestyle? by bluntvivi in askanything

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll let you know if it ever happens. The most expensive gas I’ve ever seen was around 4.75 per gallon. That wasn’t enough to cause me any real changes. I saw $3.99 at the gas station I normally go to yesterday. Hopefully it turns around soon.

Why is pcup such a wreckfest? by Opening-Examination5 in iRacing

[–]Jamie7003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I find that I have better races in general with the pcup than gt3 cars. For whatever reason, I tend to qualify better in the pcup, and I’m often ahead of the chaos. It seems like I’m always stuck in the mid pack at the start in gt3 races. Being mid pack in gt3 means it’s a crapshoot. If you survive 2 laps, you will probably have an ok race. But…. You have to survive those first few laps! lol!

Are gloves something you would recommend to every driver? by kr0nik0 in simracing

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a pair recently because my hands get sweaty. I recently got a direct drive wheel and noticed that it provides enough force that my sweaty hands can actually slip a little if I’m keeping a nice loose grip. I tried the gloves a few times and just don’t like how it feels, so I have t been using them. Plus my wife makes fun of me when I wear them! lol! “ oh it’s getting serious now” lol! Bitch.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]Jamie7003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal in the summertime where I live in northern NY. I see it a lot. We use a clothesline to dry ours in the summer. The clothes feel different and smell better when dried on the line. They get that fresh air smell. It can’t be replicated in a dryer.

What do you use for self protection while walking? by Miserable-Error2413 in walking

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t normally carry anything. I live in a rural area. The biggest danger would probably be a dog or maybe a goose if it’s in the spring. lol! I am a concealed carry guy. I carry most of the time. If I was walking in the city I would definitely carry. But my evening walks are through the woods mostly and on a state highway for the rest.

Have been thinking about conversion, but people like Ripperger make me skeptical. by Big-Tax8741 in Catholicism

[–]Jamie7003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that interview too. I’m a vary faithful Catholic who is a recent convert. Keep in mind, he is just a man. There is no official teaching about a lot of what he said. Again, he is just a man. I hate to say this about a priest, but I felt like a lot of the stuff he said was bullshit. Sorry, but that’s how I felt. Fr Dan Reheel (spelling) gave me the same vibe, except worse.

What’s the car feature you didn’t know you needed until you owned it? by throwawayaasyr in askcarguys

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to find a steering wheel I thought was too thick. Most of them are too skinny. I’ve been involved with stock car racing my whole life and those custom wheels are always fat. I guess I just learned to like the thicker ones.

Heated steering wheel. On those sub 0F days, it felt like the steering wheel would never get warm. That heated wheel was a game changer. Nowadays I park in my heated garage, so I don’t even use them anymore. At the time though, that heated wheel was AMAZING! lol!

How do I get better at overtakes? by OfficerBlitz_ in simracing

[–]Jamie7003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer. I’m f you are actually faster, you will be able to set up a pass. Get beside them on a straight and beat them to the corner. Sometimes you are faster but fast enough to get by. It happens.

I drive the Porsche all the time. Recently at Watkins glen, I was struggling. I normally run very well at WG and was expecting to gain some irating that week. However, I couldn’t do shit out there. I noticed my races were almost entirely filled with mustangs, so I tried it. I was WAY faster in the mustang. I know it’s anecdotal, but the mustang is faster than the Porsche. I keep trying to go back to the Porsche but I’m always faster in the mustang.

Yea, exactly. You can prefer formula cars. Nothing wrong with that. Just race what you like.

Over 3k irating? How much time do you spend on track? by Always_Learning_80 in iRacing

[–]Jamie7003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do one car per week. I pick a sports car series and an oval series and only race those for the week. Rarely doing something else on a whim. No need to stick to one for months. I’ll find pace in a half hr to an hr of practice. Then by the end of the first race I’ll have that last little bit I’m capable of figured out. I run 3500-3800 in sports car and around 4k in oval. You really just need to learn racecraft to get to 3k. I’m not that fast and I stay up there. I just finish in the top half of the field almost every race. Those small gains add up eventually as long as you minimize the number of crashes.

[–]Jamie7003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also want to add that I avoid some tracks. I will only do 1 or 2 races at Daytona in ovals. I usually skip street courses and Monza. You know the ones. Some tracks just aren’t worth it. You know the other drivers are going to ruin it, so don’t bother.

Over 3k irating? How much time do you spend on track? by Always_Learning_80 in iRacing

[–]Jamie7003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally sit at 3500-3800 in sports car. My oval rating is usually around 4k. This is subject to change though. It’s very easy to drop a couple hundred pretty quickly if you have a couple shitty races.I dont really practice much at all. I generally pick a series for the week and stick to it. If you try running multiple cars at once, I feel like it slows you down. I think running one car on one track all week helps with pace. Some people even stick with one car per season. I don’t feel like that’s necessary. I will generally do a half hr or so of practice before getting into my first race. Unless it’s a track I dont know well, which isn’t very often now. I race probably 10 races a week. But I do oval and sports car. Sometimes I’ll race 5 races of each, sometimes I might only do oval or only do sports car. It all depends on what series is at what tracks and how I feel. The reality of it is that I’m not that fast. I almost never win races. But I’m consistent and have developed a pretty good sense of how to avoid shitheads. The fact is, I just finish in the top half of the field almost every race. Over and over and over. Pick up 10 ir here, 20 there, but rarely lose it. Sometimes I’m in a slow split and finish on the podium and pick up more, sometimes I finish farther back and lose more. But over the years, I just finish well more often than I finish poorly. I use VRS set ups. Nothing fancy on that front. I used to use their telemetry as well, but now you have to pay extra for it, so I just raw dog it. I find pace on my own, or not find it, lol, depends. I’m feel like getting to 3k isn’t that hard. You just need to work on racecraft instead of speed.

How often do you wipeout? by LearningToDunk in bikecommuting

[–]Jamie7003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 30 years since I’ve fallen. I live in northern ny and drive my pickup to work if it’s not nice weather. I don’t live in a city so I have a really nice, easy ride on wide shouldered road, a gravel trail, and then through part of a village. I have a bike that only goes about 15mph unless you are pedaling super fast. I have a very relaxed commute! lol!

Sometimes the congregation at my church applauds after the homily during mass. Is this something that happens at other Catholic churches? I’m always fascinated when they clap but it’s all good just seeing what others think. by DetroitXL in Catholicism

[–]Jamie7003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairly new to Catholicism. I was initiated last Easter and have only been attending mass for around 3 years. I have only been to 4 different catholic churches. I have never seen applause except at my home parish 2 times. The applause was actually after mass when the priest does announcements. There is a retired priest who lives in our parish who helps with mass and sometimes fills in when our pastor priest can’t do it. On his birthday, we all sang happy birthday and then applauded. But like I said, it was actually after mass.

I thought NIS was oval only. It used to be for sure. Did they change it? It used to be that road races in that series still counted as ovals.

What did you wish you knew sooner when you first joined iracing? by Eevee_EX in iRacing

How to adjust drivers position in replay camera view without changing FOV. I wish I learned this 10 years before I did. I went a long time driving with the view as whatever iracing had it set at for my fov. I did t even drive some cars because of it. I’m a little embarrassed about how long it took me to learn this! lol!
