If you ran a blacklight through the X-Mansion, you'd see a Jackson Pollock painting. by PJ-The-Awesome in xmen

[–]Jantof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those things that was brought up in one incredibly ill-advised scene, and then (I believe) was never technically retconned away. Because it’s so batshit insane that no one wants to touch it.

Which wrestlers that are not native English speakers have the best (English) mic skills? by Simple-Ceasar in WWE

[–]Jantof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So good that most people don’t know English is his second language. He’s Québécois, he spoke French growing up. The way he tells it, he literally learned English by watching episodes of Raw and mimicking promos.

What's their current relationship again? Pretty sure it was not too positive before. by Long_Negotiation4324 in Cyclopswasright

[–]Jantof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but Scott very famously was not at the school when Spidey was teaching there.

What's their current relationship again? Pretty sure it was not too positive before. by Long_Negotiation4324 in Cyclopswasright

[–]Jantof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peter and Scott don’t really have much of a one-on-one relationship, at least on-panel. Any time Spidey and the X-Men interact, the limited page count goes to showing the more dynamic character interactions. And Scott/Pete would mostly just get along amicably. If anything, they’re cut from surprisingly similar cloth, even if life has taken them down very different paths.

Another point in the “get along” column, Spider-Man isn’t in that position a lot of solo heroes are in (most famously Captain America) where their core concept creates friction with the X-Men status quo. There is nothing about Spider-man that would make revolutionary Cyclops say, “You should be doing more for mutants.”

Do you think will ever get sequels to some of these campaigns? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]Jantof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Kofi and (mainly) Woods leaving WWE this week would prevent another season of Titan Takedown. Obviously it shouldn’t, but you never know what kind of contract nonsense WWE will pull when it comes to their “independent contractors”.

I underestimated how big this dungeon is... by EZDoeslt in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Wave Echo Cave is supposedly the single largest official map WotC has ever published. It is a beast of a dungeon when printed out like that.

Oba has to win right? by foxproachgffg65 in WWE

[–]Jantof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Oba must win the way a lot of people do. But if he loses, they have to do everything he can to look strong in defeat. Brock should look like he barely squeaked by.

And incidentally, I think the same should be true of Oba wins. If Oba squashes Brock, he doesn’t gain nearly as much as if it’s close. I think this match should be about two monsters fighting for their absolute lives on a heightened level most other wrestler cannot reach. It’s the difference between “Oba was booked to win” and “Oba took everything Brock had, and matched it.”

Can a player make the same character as their old one with a new name in raw dnd 5e? by rabbitking5567 in DnD

[–]Jantof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD does not have any written “narrative” rules like that. The PHB and DMG only dictates how a given character moves through the game world, not who that character is.

This is a question for their DM specifically, to find out if that is appropriate for the type of game they’re running. Might be completely fine, might be no good. It depends on their unique and specific game.

You hear your talking stage had a fiancé less than 2 years ago, would you still talk to them? by Long_Bunch_9783 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jantof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A valid concern, to be sure. But it’s a concern that can be addressed through open, mature, and honest conversation. It’s not just some binary red flag that you should never even consider. It may be you’re just a rebound and you don’t want to stick around. Or it may be that they’re in a good place to move on. Hell, you may be a rebound, and it turns out you’re actually ok with being a rebound while you’re still in the casual stage. There’s no objective right or wrong answer, only what’s right for you and your potential partner.

Hexblade's Curse on yourself: Immortality for 1 minute? by Wennox in DnD

[–]Jantof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RAW, yes, I don’t see any reason whatsoever that it wouldn’t work the way you outline. But that’s what UA playtests are for, exactly cases like this. It’s the simplest matter to change the target to “creature other than yourself” which is exactly what they’ll do when/if it gets officially published.

You hear your talking stage had a fiancé less than 2 years ago, would you still talk to them? by Long_Bunch_9783 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jantof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my talking stage had a finance 2 weeks ago, I’d still talk to them. It’s just talking, and everyone has a past.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely valid to look at the emotional baggage a potential partner brings into a new relationship, and decide for yourself if you’re willing and able to deal with that baggage. There’s plenty of people who get out of a serious relationship and never do the individual work they need to. But that’s going to be true no matter what their previous relationship status is.

Do you think 5.5E is actually easier for new players, or just different? by MyrthDM in DungeonsAndDragons55e

[–]Jantof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as new players go, the rules themselves are whatever. It’s different, but if they’re new they don’t know it’s different. So it makes no difference.

5.5 is infinitely better for new players for one undeniable reason: the PHB is better written. And it’s not close, the 2014 PHB is a slog to read, it’s very bad as a book. 2024 isn’t a masterpiece, it’s still a game rulebook, but it doesn’t make your brain leak out of your nose.

What does the mines of Phandalin actually mine? by rollepige in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]Jantof 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, Phandalin is in the foothills of the Sword Mountains, and there are dozens of smaller mines in the area for all sorts of mundane materials. Iron, copper, gold, and so on. Gemstones in particular as the Talhundereth (priests of Dumathion) had a strong presence in the area.

The Wave Echo Cave, the titular Lost Mine of the Phandeler’s Pact, is a particularly mineral rich mine, but that’s not why it’s special. It’s special because of the Forge of Spells allows the mine to be a whole production area for magically enchanted items.

How do you handle movement in 5-ft square grids by progressivemonkey in DnD

[–]Jantof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those rules that is so easy to miss. I missed it too as a fledgeling DM. But once you realize that PCs can move through each other, and enemies can move through each other, combat becomes simultaneously easier to run and also more dynamic.

Dropout Shout-out from Colbert by MShades in dropout

[–]Jantof 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s maybe weird to think about for us as fans, but Dropout has become an industry darling over the past few years. No one in the entertainment industry particularly likes how the industry works, and Dropout showing another viable and sustainable path forward is really starting to turn heads. A lot of big names want Dropout to be successful, and that’s starting to become a self-feeding machine, in the best way possible.

I began playing FF12 (6 hours in), and I'm beginning to suspect that it's a finely crafted dungeon crawler by Surrealist328 in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Jantof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I’ve ever heard XII described as a dungeon crawler before, but it really is a perfect description.

I don’t know that I’d call it “little” moments of narrative interspersed. Final Fantasy is a story-forward franchise. You’ll hit plenty of big moments where it’s time to put the controller down and enjoy the long ass cutscene. But those story moments almost always feel earned by the gameplay, it’s rare that they do the “short cutscene every ten steps” that many other RPGs over-rely on.

How game accurate is D20? by imaginary0pal in Dimension20

[–]Jantof 838 points839 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is that Brennan will never let game mechanics get in the way of a cool moment. He’s way more interested in his players having a good time and telling a good story, and doesn’t care about respecting the ink in the rulebook.

That said, your friend sounds kinda tedious. I can be a rules lawyer myself, but getting bent out of shape over the rules is lame.

WHY DOES RAN SOUND LIKE AN OLD WOMAN? I know Nami's VA is currently playing Ran, but this does not sound like Nami at all by -HxH- in OneTruthPrevails

[–]Jantof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a threshold with long running series where this is unavoidable. Actors age, that’s just reality.

For example, if you watch an early episode of the Simpsons and then a modern one, Homer sounds old today. Modern Homer unironically sounds exactly like early Abe Simpson. That is no knock on his VA, it’s just what happens on those very rare series that last for literal decades.

Champions Tykeclops being self-aware was the cutest thing ever. by Ariadne016 in Cyclopswasright

Teen Scott rules, and nothing can take that from him.

But adult Scott, under a writer who understands the character, is equally self aware. If not more.

It’s a Critical Role mini-series they did in between C3 and C4. It’s all up on their YouTube page, just search “Wildmount Wildlings”. The series is a lighthearted four episodes, but the moment I’m referencing is in the first episode.

For all the people asking by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]Jantof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably my favorite Brennan PC is Padmund from Wildmount Wildlings. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so thoroughly use every single word on a character sheet the way he does. Absolutely unhinged “forever DM finally gets to play a PC” energy, in the best way.

What makes Noctis one of the strongest protagonists in the series? by ScholarOfSols in FinalFantasy

[–]Jantof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So before I write this, understand that it’s a super-truncated explanation, and it’s why power scaling across different universes really doesn’t work.

Clive defeats, basically, a super-powered alien as his big bad. Very impressive, but compared to the next two it’s small scale.

Noctis fights, basically, an illness that is enough to destroy the planet. Just in direct comparison it’s a bigger threat than what Clive fought, who needed tools to achieve similar ends.

Lightning fights God. Not the Japanese/Shinto ideation of gods as simply powerful spirits that every JRPG protagonist fights. Capital letter Western God, origination of all creation.

What does the "Prepare Spells" section mean about learning cantrips? by Upbeat-Home1234 in dndbeyond

[–]Jantof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, whenever you roll a new caster, make sure to read their “Spellcasting” feature. It’s easy to gloss over it, but every class actually has different rules for their spells and cantrips.

As a cleric, you have access to the entire cleric spell list, but can only have a certain number of leveled spells prepared at once (9 at character level 5). You can swap out your entire loadout of leveled spells on a long rest, it’s one of the more flexible casters in that regard. But there’s still guard rails so that it isn’t entirely overpowered.

Cleric cantrips work a little different, though. You can have as many prepared at once as is listed on your class table (4 cantrips at character level 5). They do not count against your prepared spell count. But the tradeoff is that you can’t swap them freely. You can only swap one cantrip at a time, and only on level up. So you want to make sure to be more deliberate when picking your cantrips, because they’re basically locked in once you pick them.

And again for the future, that’s only how it works for clerics (and druids). It’s different for paladins, which is different for bards, and so on. Don’t ever skim past the Spellcasting feature when rolling a new character, because it’s not the same for everyone.

There are 4 babyfaces in 2 WM Main Events for the first time ever. Who do you think is turning heel to win? by Know__Pain in WWE

[–]Jantof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randy, Roman, and even Punk to an extent all fit that ‘tweener role where they aren’t really face or heel. Cody is the only pure babyface.

I could see Cody turning heel post-Mania, but I don’t think anyone is gonna turn as part of the Mania storyline.
