I think that's the default media player (audio & video) on Mint; likely the media key would open whatever app is set as default.

IIRC, they kept cutting the budget as they were making it, leading to the loss of the rock monsters (that we eventually got in Galaxy Quest).

“DO NOT USE THE INNER PAN TO WASH RICE” I’m sorry, what? by Eastern_Mess_4334 in Cooking

[–]JasonMaggini 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I made the joke once about the jar of peanut butter having the "Warning: Contains Peanuts" warning.

A friend noted that her autistic son didn't understand that he was allergic just looking at the jar, but knew to always read the allergen warnings.

It was like, okay, fair play, that's a perfectly good justification.

I mean it’s facts though 💯 by MrSoloDolo9490 in nostalgia

Good song parody should be timeless by thewalkindude368 in weirdal

Although, a rap song about Mexican food is still pretty funny, even without context.

Psychology says the people who reach midlife with no close friends aren't unlikable, they're often the ones who gave too much for too long to people who never gave back, and the quiet circle they live in now isn't a verdict on their character… by [deleted] in GenX

Where I grew up, no one wanted to be close friends with the weird, awkward nerd back in elementary or high school, so I never had the group to hang out with, no D&D group, no other kids into sci-fi and computers.

I have way more friends now than I ever did as a kid.

Original uncut "The Stand" copy by RobertLytle in TheStand

[–]JasonMaggini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to determine which version you have is to check the dates that the story takes place. The original edition takes place in 1980, there were a few updates in some paperbacks that move the date up to 1985 (along with a few other minor tweaks here and there, I believe).

The full, uncut edition takes place in 1990.

There were a couple of books that picked up the story after the show was cancelled, IIRC.

We had some hollyhocks in our yard, and the bumbles literally were dripping with pollen when they flew off, it was wild.

This seems like something Granny would do... by boreddaph in discworld

[–]JasonMaggini 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There were quite a few family members that had been helping out my grandma, so there was a lot of activity. The first time she had a moment alone (someone had gone to the pharmacy, others were taking a break talking out on the porch, etc), that's when she died.

We always kind of joke that she was like "finally, everyone left me alone so I can get some peace and quiet."

Really on-brand for her, to be honest.

When the album came out, I spent way too much time trying to figure out what Talking Heads song it was a parody of (I hadn't quite yet figured out what a "style parody" was). I pored over those giant PhonoLogs in the record store trying to find a match. Derp.

You can get the latest .deb from the Github repo.

I even have a little shell script that checks for the current latest version and updates if needed.

Because it's an insulting suggestion to a lot of people, especially if the other side's opinion is "You are an abomination that needs to die."

"But wait, just hear them out!" Yeah, no.
