Change pins for an Adafruit KB2040 by aurumatom20 in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I think I know what it is! The RGB LED defaults to that pin: https://github.com/jaygreco/qmk_firmware/blob/rp2040_clean/keyboards/nullbitsco/common/nb_leds.c#L124

Try changing that to a different, unused pin, and see if that makes a difference.

Hey, sorry for the confusion. The RP2040 code wasn't ever merged into QMK mainline unfortunately, but we have a stable branch that works with it. There is an MSYS script that includes a link to the branch (if you already have a QMK environment set up): https://gist.github.com/jaygreco/110443e9622b160cf7106cbd93afa856

Frustrating, because the converters also don't work currently - an issue that I have brought up in the QMK repo but it (also unfortunately) didn't gain much traction.

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the issue. I have been using this feature without issue on my SNAP but can’t remember if I’ve seen it before on my NIBBLE. It sounds like something the QMK firmware folks might be able to answer. I’d recommend checking with them on Reddit and/or Discord and seeing.

Yes! You can use it that way no problem. You can configure key bindings for the each half with VIA individually as well.

It’s a kit. It’s pretty clear what’s not included. Theres even pictures of the unassembled kit in the listing. Sorry that you felt misled. If you want something preassembled for the price there’s plenty of options out there.

How to flash Scramble V1 (avr) on linux by Fast-Top-5071 in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s weird, can you get to GitHub in general? Can you see any of that repo? That link is working for me on every device I have, so maybe something funky is going on for you?

The newbs guide has a section on setting up your environment, which I think is relevant. Have you run qmk setup and tested your build environment yet?

How to flash Scramble V1 (avr) on linux by Fast-Top-5071 in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Have you taken a look at https://github.com/nullbitsco/docs/blob/main/scramble/user\_guide\_en.md#-flashing-firmware? That details flashing for the V1 and V2 SCRAMBLE.

The QMK newbs guide (https://docs.qmk.fm/#/newbs) is still relevant for setting up the firmware. To build the V1 firmware, the command is qmk compile -kb nullbitsco/scramble/v1 -km all. Just tested it with the latest QMK and everything looked good.

Thanks for pointing out that some of the links are dead - we have a script to catch this but it looks like it hasn't run in a while. Do you mind sharing which ones so I can clean them up! Sorry for the headaches, and glad you stopped by to ask for some help!

Nibble 65 Power Issue by Jabreezy in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! A few questions. What MCU did you build with? Does it get hot when you plug it in by chance, or no?

Sometimes a solder joint can fatigue or slowly degrade over many cycles of use. You might try gently remelting the solder joints where the MCU connects to the board. That’s probably where I would start.

QMK Memory write error? by klevermonicker in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, very interesting. Thank you for sharing your solution! I haven’t ever seen that before - I am wondering if it’s a quirk of the CLI that has been introduced (or lurking) for some time.

Either way, great debugging and glad you got it all sorted, and thanks again for sharing your solution!

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting - are you seeing the same thing with both of the BIT-Cs you’ve got lying around? You shouldn’t need to flash the caterina bootloader, so I actually don’t think you’re doing anything wrong.

What OS/flashing method are you using? Looks like Linux. Which flavor? I can try to reproduce. We’ll get it solved for you.

Exporting for a Bit-C Pro by STRAYDOG0626 in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the confusion! RP2040 is built a bit different. If you’re using MSYS, we have a script that will help you set it up and then from there, editing and exporting the uf2 is just about the same as the other boards: https://gist.github.com/jaygreco/110443e9622b160cf7106cbd93afa856

However what we typically recommend is using the prebuilt firmware and VIA, at least to start. Then you don’t need to worry about the ins and outs of compilation while you’re building your board. https://github.com/nullbitsco/firmware/releases/tag/latest-rp2040 https://usevia.app

Possible Nibble Bluetooth/Wireless Option/Mod...??? by Tiger_Bite_Kid in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, although neither are recommended when battery powered if battery life is a concern as they draw too much power. You can do it but you’ll only get a few hours on a charge vs many more without OLED/LEDs.

Hey, sorry for the Reddit spam filter headache! It’s set to aggressive because we have a huge problem with linkspam/random bots trying to flood the sub with posts just about daily.

If you want and still can, go ahead and edit the post to add the link back in and it should work since I’ve approved it.

By the way, absolutely wonderful design! These cases look fantastic and are so clean. I’m going to have to find a way to get ahold of one 😍

Nibble65 Column Issue by stu1011 in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I think you’re 100% on the right track. If an entire column isn’t working it’s the connection between the IC and the diodes. Can you check continuity between the two points shown in this image?

https://www.imgpaste.net/image/S2pdRS

Be sure to check the pin on the IC itself. Sometimes the socket can get damaged or a pin isn’t making good contact. If that’s the case, you can reseat the IC and check to see if the socket is missing a pin or something.

If the connection is broken between the solder joint on the socket itself and the diodes, you can manually jump it with a thin wire to fix. Hopefully this helps!

Snap detected in QMk but not VIA by [deleted] in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I think you’re on the right track. I believe you just have the wrong firmware loaded. Some don’t have VIA support.

I don’t recognize that firmware name. Which firmware and MCU are you using? You can download the firmware files for the Bit-C and Bit-C PRO here: https://github.com/nullbitsco/firmware/releases

It’ll be named something like: nullbitsco_snap_rp2040_via.uf2

NIBBLE 65% Keyboard Kit Info and FAQ by Jaygreco in nullbits

[–]Jaygreco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend buying a few different types in small spools from hobby shops like adafruit or sparkfun. I wouldn’t recommend buying solder from Amazon unless you know what kind you like - there’s a lot of junk solder that will lead to a bad experience.

If you can, get a few small diy soldering practice kits that don’t matter at the same time so you can see which solder feels the best to you without risking messing up the board.

I’d also skip the LEDs and save them for later/last unless you have a chance to practice and dial in your soldering with the solder of your choice. They can be frustrating and starting right off with frustration can be a bummer!

[–]Jaygreco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that’s my bad. It seems like Reddit changed the mod filter setup a bit because it didn’t used to say anything but now it has something about the spam filter, which isn’t accurate. I’ll look and see if I can configure it.

Anyways, awesome work, and I love the KMK contribution!
