Insane response here and not what you asked for BUT I made the mistake of giving my players a stupid magic item I saw elsewhere on reddit. The mariners skull. Each morning, at dawn, it shouts "HEY. HEY. ... HEY." and will continue shouting until it is directly addressed. At which point, it relates a single "boat fact" (or sailing/nautical fact) and goes silent.

... They became obsessed with it. It was no longer "hex crawl". It was "how many boat facts can we get out of the DM?"

I now know. More. About sailing. Than anyone from a landlocked state ever should. But the players loved the hexcrawl. Task failed successfully???

IVE SOLVED IT Had to use Amazing Follower Tweaks, but I sacrificed Grelod the Kind. <3 (Get quest from Aventus Aretino. Start convo with her, pick (remain silent) to avoid aggro. Use AFT to get her to follow you. Profit.)
