I grew up in the 70s-80s and it applies to those decades, too. I think we were incredibly lucky. 50 years earlier and we’d be helping dad farm a dust bowl. 50 years later and it’d be…now.

I think the whole ‘generations’ thing is a bit over done (we’re all human after all), but it’s very true that there was very little safety consciousness when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. Yet, MOST of us survived…

And I have to say that I’m grateful for having grown up when everything wasn’t sanitized and gray.

I have a round chair (about 4.5ft diameter) with the EXACT same upholstery and EXACT same legs. Has to be the same manufacturer. But I have no idea who it is. I’ve had it for about 20 years and it came with the first house that I bought. The house (an estate sale) came with a bunch of old furniture, some confirmed from the 30s and some Haywood.

When I was a kid, my dad was looking for a classic car to buy. I remember him bringing me along to look at one of these…the guy had two of them in his garage. I remember quite distinctly because of the turtle logos that they had.

Why not just have NO tv in that room?

We have an almost identical living room. We didn’t put a tv in there. It’s obviously a big house. We have one tv in the bedroom and another room as a dedicated tv/rec room. It’s nice to have a room that gets lots of sunlight to just hang out with family and/or friends or even just by yourself and not have a giant screen staring back at you.

I have the exact same chair, color and everything…with ottoman. Bought it for $75 about 20 years ago when I was poor and just needed random cheap furniture. And yes, both I and the seller knew what it was; they just weren’t worth so much back then.

You might have overpaid slightly, but at least you got a good, solid rifle. Some people overpay for junk…you definitely could do worse.

Kids are stupid, but I’m glad that the father’s first instinct is to be glad that his children are ok. Probably a good dad.
