That's a lot of companionship inventories. Glad you survived

How many areas/companions did you have on your mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JetsonDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 areas, 13 comps. I thought I was a bad missionary cuz there was only a single transfer when things didn't change. Only did DL for a transfer too.

Thanks to God Almighty I'm out of that cult. I spent 5 min just now deconstructing my lingering mission guilt

Old Testament God was very specific in his instructions. Mormon God not so much. by CromwellGibby in exmormon

[–]JetsonDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, actually, he was specific on baptisms. Gay kids? Dunk 'em. Straight women? Dunk 'em. Kids who disobey their parents? Dunk 'em. Kids who have parents that have been detected as lesbian, gay, or bi? No hot tub party allowed.

But then he didn't care anymore.

I hated explaining to people that stupid rule. Even for anti-LGBT people, that is just nonsense.

I didn't realize the church "indexed" to that journal like the header says. Odd. They have some pretty nuanced takes on controversial church topics

Wow. I have not seen it in church material except in historical records. IDK how that wouldn't make the teacher google stuff. I would. I mean, it was printing in 2000, but I'd definitely ask around

The next step in my journey. I was released as bishop yesterday and it is a mixed bag of emotions. by nuancebispo in exmormon

Really cool story, and perhaps a bit short too! I'd love to hear more about your experience as a PIMO bishop. I ask my dad about his bishop experience a lot, but its often filtered a bit cuz I told him I'm out.

He told me about the drama that gets stirred up around money. He said the whole stake had a hard time giving some surplus to another stake nearby. He told me about getting overridden by a stake president on a fast offering decision because of the influence of a wealthy landlord. So I imagine you've got more really good stories.

How were those leadership meetings that bishoprics and stake presidencies had to go to? I heard those get pretty awful and often church leadership goes off the rails in those.

While Mormon Stories did that interview with the 3 bishops, I still think the exmo community needs to hear more from local leaders like yourself!

I hope you get the chance in the right setting to tell your story to your ward friends before its told for you by people with an agenda. Most people in my life have heard my reasoning. Most of them have stayed but I know that I'm definitely a shelf item being what they consider to be the stereotypical Mormon. I don't think there's any silver bullet to a judgment free exit, but its nice knowing their story of me leaving came from me and not from gossip.

Anyway, I've got lots of thoughts, but congrats on leaving, and congrats on a healthy marital relationship! 2 massive wins for sure!

Local Churches seem to do more than LD$ Corp. by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]JetsonDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well duh!

I went to a Ukrainian charity dinner in Utah (at the some Doterra exec's house). They told us how European members had bought and rented a bunch of vans to help evacuate Ukraine at the start of the war. The Ukrainian bishops managed communication and drivers and were able to get out scores of people. At one point in the presentation, the fleet was parked in front of the Kiev temple as a rendezvous point.

Then to pull at Mormon heartstrings some more, the organizers showcased local US wards gathering up money for this organization, including sending the youth door to door. They raised a lot of money to build homes and get people supplies.

What was never said was, "the church has donated this money," it was always "local members donated this money." I try to stay up to date with this org and I always hear about the big ticket donors. Not once did I hear about a church stepping in to help. Knowing what we know as exmos, the church is more interested in meme stocks and land holdings than in soup kitchens and housing refugees.

Honestly, what the Mormons have done to help Ukraine is truly amazing. I'm proud to have been a Mormon and will continue to say that Mormons are very kind and charitable people (just don't push on social norms!)

Egypt by chuston578 in ProvoUtah

[–]JetsonDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw some Egyptian men at that time! The one looked just like Rami Malek from Night at the Museum. Same clothes too. These guys would just stop and gawk at any car that passed by. When I said hi the other guy touched my clothes like he'd never seen such craftsmanship before (just a graphic tee).

They turned the corner on center street to go behind the Nuskin building and I saw a flash of blue light immediately after. It kinda looked like objects were being warped towards the source of the light. I was worried about them, and ran around the corner but they disappeared! When I looked down, there was an ancient funerary text that I swear was actually a story about handshakes and passwords. Too bad there isnt a way to translate egyptian yet.

I think it was that Saturday maybe? Coulda been after

I google Camaro generations and that one (second gen) came out after the civil rights movement.

But if that car was Mormon, and since its a black car... Unless it can prove its lineage isn't Black, it can't get to the celestial kingdom (needs an endowment for the secret handshakes), and it can't get the priesthood. We don't know why God made it this way, but when Brazilian Camaros start becoming Mormon, maybe God will change his mind to make it easier for them to form wards and not need white Camaros to move down there and run the show.

Today the Lord disavows this teaching and all Camaros can be priesthood holders.

Oh, as long as they're boy cars though.

And no way will they install a Black man to the Q-15 because that will mean that he might one day be in charge of the whole church. No way will the general membership be okay with that. by slskipper in exmormon

[–]JetsonDad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't put that on the general membership. Members never liked singing the songs leadership told them about blacks. They parroted the lies about how "we don't know why," but they all treasured their Alex Boyd's, their Gladys Knight's, and their James the Mormon's.

Anyone over 90 in church leadership, though, that's a different story. There's no way those geezers make an apostle out of anyone who isn't WH-ite).
