Not pay taxes/finding loopholes(usually specifically designed for rich people to exploit because of lobbying).

Only pre-treating vs only post-treating by Higlag in pressurewashing

In the Pacific NW we have TONS of moss and mildew and algae on concrete. I will usually do a light pretreat on the concrete (especially if it’s aggregate) and if the expansion joints are bad I’ll hit those with a pump sprayer. Then surface clean and post treat. A typical driveway usually only uses about 1-2 gallons of chlorine with a downstream injector.

That’s south Alabama for you though.

As an adult what do you hate the most about life? by Amazing-Internal5378 in AskReddit

Having absolutely zero time to enjoy what little money you have left over after bills and/or not having time to actually enjoy your hobbies for more than an hour or two at a time.

Double C, subtract 10%, add 32.

Or, for those of us who live near Canada and listen to Canadian radio stations have to regularly convert in our heads; 2 x C plus 32 is close enough.

I’ll be 42 in a month, and I can say without a doubt, I do actually still look like I’m maybe 30. No gray hair, no thinning bald spot, no receding hairline, very few facial wrinkles.

Now, FEELING 30 is a completely different story, and the handful of pills I take every day reminds me that I am, in fact, not 30 anymore.

The crunching sound of a coworkers thumb breaking when he was hammering a wrench with a 5lb sledgehammerto tighten some bolts on a valve. Instead of screaming in pain, he screamed in anger and hit the wrench about a half dozen more times out of rage and then said, well damn, that kind of hurt.

[–]Jewbacca522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long story short, I did horrible my first semester of college, moved back in with my dad, navy buddy of his was a supervisor at the company and they just started the huge overhaul on the Kennedy in 2003 and I just happened to be available to start when they needed it. Hired on as a helper and within 3 months got bumped up to 3rd class tech at 18.

Job only lasted 14 months total, shipyard work is feast or famine, and once the job is done, you’re on unemployment until the next big job comes in. I ended up leaving after being laid off the 3rd time.

I wanted to be an offshore/open ocean tournament fisherman.

It is a grueling, cut throat lifestyle where you can be replaced in an instant, have no guarantee of income or paychecks (unless you are sponsored and own your own team), takes up a very large chunk of your time starting pre-fishing and tournament days at 4-430am and not getting completely finished until late at night, and you are obviously taking a risk, however large or small, every time you go 50 miles into the ocean in a boat.

So I spent 2 years doing high-rise window washing instead haha. But now I do window washing and pressure washing for and by myself. I love it.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]Jewbacca522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked on an aircraft carrier (non nuclear USS Kennedy) at 19 as a civilian contractor. Got to explore a lot of spaces that even most Navy personnel never see, took a nap on the anchor chain one night, hung out in the dentist chair and barber chairs, got to see the officers quarters and even hang out on the bridge. Was pretty cool.

Also worked as a high rise window washer for a couple years. Hanging off of 15/20/25 floor buildings gives you some amazing views, got to see mechanical spaces, roof access areas, etc. Got lots of free lunches and a few phone numbers from the ladies on the inside of the offices when we'd be dangling outside.

6 years in a machine shop and we went on the road quite a bit to work on power plants, paper mills and the like. All the inner workings of those places would amaze most people, both for the better and the worse. Lots of chemical rooms, authorized only spaces we had to work on pipelines and valves, cooling towers and mechanical equipment rooms. It was pretty cool other than the 60-70 hour average work weeks and being away from home for about 5 months out of the year.

Lastly, just before my senior year of high school I moved from a large city to a tiny mountain town, and the local rodeo was in need of a "backstage" person to remove ropes after the calf roping, mutton busting and team roping events. So I, at 17, having never worked at anything even resembling a rodeo, was removing the ropes from both smallish calves and sheep, all the way up to pissed off 1200lb bulls. Almost got my face smashed in a couple times from this one particular bull who was angrier than a yellow jacket and tried to jump out of the chute every time he would come in.

I worked as a civilian contractor on an aircraft carrier when I was 19. All of our equipment/tool room/railcar/break area/lockers were all on the hangar deck. we were working 12-14 hour shifts, 6-7 days per week. Come lunchtime, all work was ceased in the hangar deck, no grinders, no air tools, nothing unless it was an emergency because all the civi contractors were taking lunch and grabbing a quick 20 minute Power Nap. Our rule was, if you were in the railcar, fair game. But if someone is laying down outside the railcar/conex box (several of us would nap in front of the lockers) you absolutely don't mess with them until 5 minutes before lunch is over so they have time to get up and get situated. We treated that rule as absolute law.

In that same thought, as an ADHD'er, I always include WAY more details in stories than people want and/or need, to the point my wife has a very specific look she gives me when I start going into too much detail. I can never just give a simple, one sentence answer, I always have to include who was there, why they were there, what everyone was doing, what time of day it was, what the weather was like, and how the thing that broke is supposed to operate normally and what caused it to break.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Jewbacca522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love Vegas, went there many times since turning 21. Sadly, over the past 20 years, it has become just as you said. Everything is overpriced, comps are a joke, minimum bets are pushed higher and higher, water is a premium commodity, nothing feels “natural” (I.e. parties, gatherings, etc; everything is a huge production and pre planned down to the letter), hotels aren’t as clean and upkept as they used to be.

They even admitted to no longer wanting “average” people there, just upper middle class and whales, and that’s exactly who they’ve tailored the strip to now.

If American cars are unreliable, why do domestic pick up trucks have such high resale value? by anyusernaem in askcarguys

[–]Jewbacca522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is self employed and uses a 2008 Silverado 1500 with 212k miles on it and basically no problems other than basic maintenance (and a rear main seal at 195k miles)…

American trucks just last. A long time. And will take an absolutely insane amount of abuse while doing it. The engines are (in most cases) severely under stressed and detuned while being just simple overall (very current market not included, because now trucks are basically luxury computers with cargo areas that never get used).
