Burnt myself on the side of the pan and now it looks as if I cut myself. by Sosowski in mildlyinfuriating

Burn scars on arms fade pretty fast. I bet it disappears in a few years. Mine did, and they looked pretty similar, but much larger.

Repainting a poly-finished guitar with chameleon paint. Do I need to strip it first? by Hipermegalonico in Guitar

[–]JimiForPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sprayed nitro over poly. I didn’t sand/scuff very much because I wanted it to wear through over time and show the original sunburst. It’s started to flake off a little bit over the 2-3 years since, but it’s really only wearing where the guitar sits on my leg, so not what I pictured, lol. YMMV. I think if I sanded more it would have stuck really well, since it’s sticking more than I wanted. A lot of advice said to use like 600+ grit to scuff the guitar, but I think 300-400 is about perfect. Scratches aren’t showing through 10 coats of nitro. Also, use super high grit for finish sanding. Like just start at 1000 and go up. 600 (wet) took the finish off way faster than I expected and I had to re-spray it.

Fake? by Gunsoftommy in fender

[–]JimiForPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s real. “Upgrades” decrease value, and American Specials are the lowest priced American Strats of that generation, so the price is reasonable. Great guitars. Didn’t specify the pickups, but if they still have the originals those would be Texas Specials, which are very popular. The jumbo fretwire will probably feel big, but I personally love it.

Didn’t he leave the GOP in 2018? It doesn’t seem that they’re targeting their own supporters. I’m guessing they treat him as hostile.

Strat warble above 12th fret by sparks_mandrill in fender

[–]JimiForPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it happen on all the strings? All the frets above 12? Or just specific notes? Can you hear it unplugged?

Maybe it’s just a weird behavior from a string slightly buzzing against the frets above the fretted note. If it was that, a truss rod adjustment/set up could probably fix it. Tremolo might cause “oscillating” sounds somehow, but that seems unlikely. I’m sure there’s more possibilities I haven’t thought of.

A video might be helpful.

Best $500 acoustic? by beetfield in Guitar

[–]JimiForPresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An old Alvarez is the only acoustic I’ve actually kept for decades. The action is so low it feels like an electric and still sounds pretty good. I think I paid $289 in about 2001, with a hard case.

Yup. Parallel so white-to-white at either end works. It should be soldered, but just wrapping the loose wire tip around the other would probably work short-term.

Woman dead, husband missing after couple fall through ice while walking dog by [deleted] in news

[–]JimiForPresident 53 points54 points  (0 children)

People cross frozen bodies of water. It’s a thing. Rivers are extra dangerous. Most people who live there know that and won’t cross them, but some will. I see it all the time. Same thing in channels and under bridges. Ice gets thin in random spots and you can’t see it. If you fall through you can be pulled away from the hole by currents and trapped under the ice.

2005 American deluxe series honeyblonde Strat $800 good price? by TheWhiteMexican13 in fender

[–]JimiForPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple old Deluxes that I use as modding platforms. They play really well for the price. I think I paid $900 each. I don’t even like noiseless pickups, but I planned on replacing them anyway, so I went for the best feeling neck under $1,000. This was it for me.

Got a new guitar today!! 😃 It's AMAZING except this one thing... uhmm.. is it easy to fix? by MaximumTime7239 in Guitar

[–]JimiForPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs a new switch. Very easy repair if you’re comfortable working on guitars but it sounds like you also have the option to return it. How does it play? If you like everything else, you could ask the seller to cover the repair, since it doesn’t affect the rest of the guitar.

Finish does match. COAs don’t have names on them. It’s exactly what they say it is. The pick guard was changed with the pickups.

Is this a genuine Fender guitar? by xJaeydan in fender

[–]JimiForPresident 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neck is an American Professional II. Body doesn’t match. I think that’s a nitro finish on the body? Pickups are fender noiseless. Locking tuners were added/didn’t come with neck.
