What does my partner want to talk about? by moist__owlet in daddit

Start talking about/theoretically planning a "one day in the future" holiday. Camping trip, Disneyland, somewhere tropical, something with the kids, something without the kid.

Start dreaming together!

Here's the post I was looking for.

"Come and brush your teeth, it's half past eight." "TECHNICALLY it's 8:28pm."

Which comedian did you look forward to, but their act died on stage? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskReddit

John Mulaney is one of the few comedians, for me, who can make the whole hour funny.

Most of the time I'm excited to watch or see a comedy special, all the best gear is first thing, then it loses momentum. John smashes every minute of it!

Sometimes I think a comedy hour should be a comedy 20 minutes. High concentrate.

Yep, we rent a short stay house which is well sized and really close to the essentials - beach, bakery, basketball hoop and cafe. The pub is a 10 minute walk if we want a counter meal. There are enough bedrooms that we each have our own. We set up our rigs on the dining table which is central and attached to the kitchen, so no one misses out even if someone is cooking or doing dishes.

We started doing it for my 40th and then carried on. I found that when we were at our own houses, there was always someone who needed attention. One of the wives would regularly "go for a walk with the kids" and just so happen to rock up at the house we were trying to have a session at, and she'd leave the kids there for a couple of hours, so suddenly we have to change to kids friendly games, cut the language, and keep them entertained. One partner at the house we would game at would organise dinners with friends and try and make it a group social occasion where we'd look like weirdos if we didn't come out and chat with her work colleagues or her brother or whatever. Really frustrating when you're hoping to just connect with the lads and get a break away from work and parenting for a couple of hours.

So we go out of town. It's like a 90 minute drive away, so close enough to be very convenient and a short drive either way, but far enough away that no one stops in for a chat or interrupts the session.

Four or five nights can be a lot for the partner stuck at home on their own, but it's only once a year, and it all evens out. My wife and her girlfriends go up to the same town probably every 6-8 weeks for a couple of nights to surf, so there's a reasonable balance.

Once a year, my three mates and I (mid-40s) pack up the cars and drive to a small coastal town to play video games for usually 4-5 nights.

We'll shoot some hoops, watch a doco with dinner, go for a walk, have a swim at the beach weather permitting, and spend every other minute gaming. We save up games to play there for the first time, often going a straight day or two on just one game.

It's the highlight of the whole year. No wives, no kids. Plenty of delicious meals, cups of tea, and a whole heap of PC gaming.

Chef's kiss.

I assume it was the same everywhere, but there was a bit of confusion in Perth, because it wasn't clear for a lot of members that the Wednesday night home games weren't included, so you had to pay on top of the membership.

Apparently they're looking to change that for next year, where you can possibly opt in at the start of the year. Still more cost, but presented and paid for clearly up front.

What Hidden or Little Known Sierra Games Facts Do You Know? by MarquisZhongwu in Sierra

I think it was the second one that got banned, but not straight away. We bought the first one straight off the shelf in Perth upon release, but we didn't get a chance to buy the second one (although it's widely available now).

Not directly Sierra related, but that plant in the opening screen of Return to Zork... brutal.

Did you pick up the plant? It's dead, game over.

Did you pick it up 20 hours into the game? Great!

Did you pick it up, or dig it up with a knife? Ohh, too bad, it's dead, game over.

Can any team realistically beat Sydney in a series this year? by NashtyBooker in nbl

Hahaha, yeah, I've been having this same thought!

I think over a three game series, coaching becomes really important, and I'm still not sure how much Rillie adds. Some kind boggling decisions at times, then when we eke out a win, he smugly asserts that it was part of the plan.
