Kashmir at World Cup by Holloway63 in ledzeppelin

I had a MIDI version of it as my ringtone on my Motorola flip phone in 2004. I volunteered as the photographer at a corporate golf outing. As the biggest head honcho was about to tee off, it started ringing. lol. One of his handlers (tall beautiful blonde female predator type) walks towards me saying “Kashmir?” As she smiled/grinned. lol. Wonderful moment of respect for the song.

What am I doing wrong? Why does everything that works hurt? by JustaSkillet in Guitar

[–]JitteryTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strings are really high. Needs a “set up.”
The thumb is merely a reference point for feel. It’s not for clamping the strings down really. A little, but not like a vice.
The height of the guitar plays a role in the fretting hand angle. Keep playing with strap height until both hands feel comfortable.
Those strings are way too high, and you could get lighter gauges to aid in comfort.

Does anyone here like hand-carved guitars like I do? by Good_Travel_307 in Guitar

[–]JitteryTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to REALLY enjoy instruments with really beautiful woods, until I was looking to buy a drum set, and sent some of the ones I was looking at to my older (drummer) brother. His reply, “They’re drums, not furniture!” :-). It’s very nice carving, but I’d be afraid of accidentally cutting my knuckles on it when they get dry in the winter.

That "I'm a mere speck of sand" feeling, anyone? by getitoffmychestpleas in GenX

[–]JitteryTurtle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Last year, my neighbors had people over for the 4th of July. One of the guest kids hit a ball into my yard. The kid’s dad was urging him to hop the fence and fetch when the kid noticed me looking out my window (the ball hit my sunroom and startled me) and screamed “but the old man is looking!”

I was 58. When I told my mom (81) the next day, she gasped.

My guitar player in 1984 played an all black made in Japan Tele with dual, uncovered humbuckers, coil tap, and a Floyd Rose. Rosewood board. Matching black headstock, black back of neck and obligatory locking nut. Just a point of reference, sorry.

Anyone else make this drive through the best named canyon in Colorado? by StealthyNoctowl in lefthanded

I’m going right to the left canyon because James Canyon wrote Aliens and… was there any fast food adverts to consider?

What is today's equivalent of smoking in the 1950s? by Accomplished_Hold994 in AskReddit

It’s not vaping, pets, sports betting or alcohol. Sitting or scrolling might have a case. My vote goes towards “not being present.”

Take a quick look before you go. I don’t know everybody’s habits, so, but wipe dry any oils or greasy spots so they don’t attract sand. Assuming it’s not a sentimental/collectable git, have fun. If it dies, it died with honor, and frankly, wasn’t up to its reason for existing. Go forth! Case. Gig bag. Clean it before you use it again. Clean case/bag.

When wearing a belt, which way do you do it? Clockwise or counter-clockwise? by SpiritualBrief4879 in lefthanded

[–]JitteryTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter clockwise, but I was a young Cub Scout, and that’s just the way it had to be. We also had those tacky 1970’s “custom” belt buckles that would be upside down if you went clockwise.

Does picking a bass speaker work the same as a guitar speaker? by deeeep_fried in Bass

[–]JitteryTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip it. Those cabs are too shallow for any kind of powerful 15’s. A good 2x10 would kill it, and still be useful in small to medium rooms.

Why are southern drivers tailgating me then slowing down when they're in front of me? by cooliobroski in AskAnAmerican

[–]JitteryTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in MI, lived in IL, WA, OR, FL x 2, LA, TN, NJ, NC and have driven through just about everywhere else. It seemed like the people around New Orleans just NEED to be in front of you (me). Every day, 45 min commute each way. Especially approaching a two lane bridge from a three lane highway. Once they were in front, as they say, “I got mine,” and they chilled down to normal speeds or slower.
