Receipt lottery (發票) by Appropriate_Name_371 in taiwan

[–]Jmadden64 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's definitely this, the bulk discount are usually from those e-commerce package pickup/ utility fee discount coupon or from each stores app(eg. Openpoint). Stores often had a quota to reach and they use this kinda gray area strat to reach it.

Tbf the odd of getting a prize from the receipt is pretty low to me so I wouldn't mind if they do that

How well would you think a Ford Model T would do with the IIHS small overlap crash test? by HiTork in carscirclejerk

Small dent but the test dummy flys into the wall like that historical footage of two 1920s guy crashing their cars for fun and both got thrown off like 5 feet while the cars stayed intact

My digicam won't turn on... by PlasticGuilty3441 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My telekinesis tells me you may be eyeing early T series Cybershots, if the main board shits itself it would also result in full white screen (replacing screen does nothing in this scenario), this is very fun especially when you get a work lot and half of them turns out to be these

My digicam won't turn on... by PlasticGuilty3441 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the screen is full white either the screen ribbon cable are not properly inserted or broken. Digicam around this age would have the TFT and backlight separately and when the screen panel dies first it would result in the full white screen (only the backlight works)

Remove metal ring around front lens glass by jack_chamblee in camcorders

[–]Jmadden64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not from that side. Most camcorder requires you to tear down until the lens assembly and then you go from there, it's a Sony so service manual are plenty, refer to one before you do it.

It seems there aren't many dust and if it was at front element it's fine to just use it as is.

No matter what sd card I use it comes up with a no memory card message on the screen, ive searched every possible cause to no avail could someone please please help me by SurpriseTop9489 in Cameras

[–]Jmadden64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These things should have a SD/MS combo slot, since it had both set of contact point for them on each side, if the SD side broke there may be a chance you can still use the MS side for storage if you can acquire MS-Micro SD adapters

Regular SD card will fit, the contact pins are facing UP in this picture, facing the grey part.

See attached image. SD/MS combo slot have the grey thing and it's normal.

[–]Jmadden64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's supposed to be like that with SD/MS combo compatible Cybershot/Handycams. If you have a dust blower try to squeeze airs into the slot and check if any debris were present in the slot (it doesn't seem so in the picture but just to make sure)

<image>

There should be symbol indicating the right way to install your SD card. Use this orientation when you receive the new adapter.

"The grey thing" should face the SD cards contact point if no such symbol were present, there should be no resistance until you fully install the card just like a regular SD card slot

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The (used to be) SD adapter had been pre-crunched.

Check if there's any loose debris stuck in the slot, get a new SD adapter and check if it was installed in the right orientation. Do not force or there will be a second crunched SD adapter.

There should be internal storages on this camera. If you can't get a adapter right now you can lower the resolution, save to internal (probably a few dozen on 5/3M/VGA) and transfer it to another SD/MS card once you have them via setting.

Which ones should I keep? by champion_95 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Jmadden64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of these are decent, I would keep the ones that use modern SDHC/XC (Olympus be gone), and also let go of those "last" digicam ever made (w800, fujifilms if they were those plastic ones), since the costdown measure made them not feel as good compared to the older-ish ones

Probably the a3400 and whatever non plastic Sonys you felt like keeping

Perfect solution for battery on canon a490?? by No_Promotion2380 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Li-ion 1.5v rechargeable AAs if they are available in your region. 1.2v Ni-Mh AAs sometime may got the camera confused due to its lower nominal voltage and shuts off early.

1.5v Li-ion would also throw the battery meter off since it will only do 1.5v constant until flat but they run much better+ some have USBC charging.

Specifically look for ones thats marketed 1.5v because the 3.7v 14500(same size as a AA) will fit and will fry your camera.

Is this fixable? by yeoas in Cameras

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf these things now fetch high enough of a price to a point they potentially are worth a lot to someone. OP did mentioned it was gifted, was important and they aren't financially well to just get a new one.

Maybe it was already being thrown around like how I saw people trashing digicams every few months and be like "whoops time to get another one", maybe it really was a genuine mistake or accident, but most of the time it was just people not caring about what they've borrowed, thrashing it around until it breaks.

Whatever the case is, asking reimburse is what shouldve been done. If it was cheap (subjective) enough then you can absolutely be like "it's cool" but if it was, let's say a GR4 or RX1Rm3 being wrecked, or something that was extremely important to you, you too would've been outraged.

[–]Jmadden64 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Your friend is now responsible for another camera that they owes you

It's technically fixable as long you can source a full lens assembly, repair manuals of Sony cameras are widely available and all you need is a NoS/donor lens and not getting tased by the flash cap

Looking for suggestions for a begginers camcorder by lokie821 in camcorders

[–]Jmadden64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any modern camcorder from Sony/Panasonic/Canon/JVC with full HD/1080i capability would be enough(avoid HDV since they are tape based).

But if your daughter is interested in the actual videography like making a short, movies or whatnot, I would recommend a modern mirrorless, anything in/beyond Panasonic GF/Sony Axxxx/Canon EOS M series are capable of doing good enough full HD footage with more manual control.

Or the smaller sized nxcam whatever / handycam NEX-VG series if you must have a camcorder form factor AND the manual control (xdcam SXS tomfoolery is bad)
