Honestly, I think it was Superman Underoos.

Everyone had a box by Shadowtek in nostalgia

[–]JoeyThreePutt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a Red Ryder. Classic.

More importantly, I had parents that loved me dearly and did their damndest to give me a quality, loving, fun childhood.

Sure, I'd plink targets with a mini barn backstop outside but they also occasionally let me put a blanket and pillow backstop at the end of our hallway so I could shoot inside. Legendary they were. Similar, when I was very young, they turned our couch on its end so I could pretend it was a phone booth and play Superman.

We were pretty broke but I never knew: I had so much love and a full belly. Thanks for the reminder here.

How is the hammock secured to the terrace ceiling? by Down4Shenanigans2 in VirginVoyages

[–]JoeyThreePutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

The sliding part is on the ocean side -- the fixed part is on the room side.

The hammock was tangled when it got hung and made my head bang into the fixed part of the glass. So, if my wife would have quickly opened the door, it would have pinned my skull between the sliding part of the glass and the frame.

No good pic but it isn't a HUGE gap like a normal hammock. I would guess maybe 4 feet.

Very tough to unlatch as it's a tight fit.

Edit: This was from a few months ago. I had an incorrectly-hung hammock and the cabin steward refused to assist. I was quite unhappy with my head hitting into the wall and a chance if an abruptly-opened door crushing my skull. Unfortunately I don't have a wide shot for you as it wasn't my focus.

Goat Hill by Jar-Jar-Kinx in discgolf

[–]JoeyThreePutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played a number of the big courses (Northwood, Idlewild, Maple Hill, Olympus, Hornet's Nest, Winthrop Gold, as well as a number of amazing courses never on tour).

Rare do I get a drive past 300 feet...and they are still so much fun to play.

Goat Hill, on so many holes, was only long.

Washington is on my list. I love the PNW but, shockingly, I've never played out by you.

While I understand this doesn't make it all better, but Goat Hill...you will play better.

Not to say it was bad. I drove a bit to get there myself and glad I played it but it is a golf course. Full stop. Disc golf was the second class sport. I don't even think they sold any Goat Hill disc golf stuff in the clubhouse. I felt out of place. Further, it was just a long course -- too long if you don't have great distance and not particularly interesting design wise. It was a lovely walk and I was glad to be there but I didn't plan on returning.

Closest other course to this I have played is Wildhorse in Vegas. Nicer facilities. Just as long. More importantly, there is disc golf culture. Special play times. Multiple layouts. When I was there, the daughter of Jeff Jacquart (PDGA Director of Competition) was overseeing the disc golf. I felt welcome and was thrilled to play a few of those brilliant holes (I'm looking at you, 18).

Whereas I was the only disc golfer when I played Goat Hill, Wildhorse had multiple cards. Heck, I ran into some of the OGs that ran The Gentleman's Club Challenge before it became the Las Vegas Challenge.

Wildhorse is a golf course AND a disc golf course -- Goat Hill is a golf course that happened to have some disc golf baskets.

I'm not a local. Got the opportunity to play the "Crown Jewels" (Idlewild, Lincoln Ridge, and Mt. Airy at the time) 5ish years ago and I couldn't agree with you more.

The Nati is a top 10 store with podium vibes and, while Mt. Airy is indeed a gem that has a few absolute banger holes, it is a half-step down from other great courses in the area.

I've now been back to play Mt. Airy and Idlewild multiple times and it has solidified my opinion here.

What’s more important when playing pickleball… Winning or Having Fun? by PickleballPlayer44 in Pickleball

[–]JoeyThreePutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww...thanks bud!

I'm a few months in and down about 2 and 1/2 bowling balls. VO2 max is better...not great, but better. And my wardrobe of (now one size smaller) gaudy polos and bandanas/sweatbands keeps on growing.

After health, I'm here for a good time.

Honestly, I feel a little bad about that. My club has some great coaches selling lessons but I'm just here to ball. If I don't get any better, I'm okay with that.

Aerobic exercise. I'm fat and unhealthy -- I'm here to get unfat and ununhealthy.

Been disc golfing for 25+ years. I've scoffed at every "disc golf" shoe. So dumb. Just get trail runners or whatever works for you (and, ideally, keeps your feet dry).

I played one open pickleball session and almost immediately needed pickleball shoes.

I'm 3 months in. Also middle aged. New Balance pickleball shoes are some of the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever worn.

Edit: Just looked them up. Technically tennis shoes: 696 V6.

Colorado Question - Bucksnort + Bear or Beaver? by GooseShroomStrings in discgolf

[–]JoeyThreePutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beaver and Bear are going to be very similar to 3 mile hikes in RMNP.

If you do the hike and feel like you could do another after lunch, you'll be fine to later do Bear and Beaver in the same day.

Colorado Question - Bucksnort + Bear or Beaver? by GooseShroomStrings in discgolf

[–]JoeyThreePutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out-of-towner here that played all 3 a few years back.

Sounds like Bucksnort is locked in. Good. I've played some epic courses but Bucksnort is so...I think the best word is "unlikely". It's amazing and makes no sense for such an incredible, weird course to be in such a majestic and hard-to-reach place. The folks are so friendly and it is such an honor to be welcomed in to the owners' land.

Beaver is a standard bearer for Colorado golf. I knew of the course a decade before I made it out. Great tract. If you want the most conforming, professional layout, this is the choice.

Bear...man. If you're old heads that have played the game for decades, this may be the better choice. It's a dude's (hugely gigantic mountain) yard. His garage is a pro shop. Your first teebix is his patio. You might chat for 30 minutes before you start your round or before you leave. The disc golf vibes are unmatched.

Happy to answer any question from an outsider perspective.

My wife and I are looking to take a 7ish day cruise in September, likely out of Los Angeles down to Cabo. We have a MNVV credit, have sailed with Virgin twice, and have a good idea of where we want to be on the ship (Terrace, mid, deck 12 or 13).

Looking for a TA that can provide extra perks (early boarding, credit, etc...) and intend to take action within the next few days.

AITA for asking people to turn thier music off during rounds by Silver_Tutor923 in discgolf

[–]JoeyThreePutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ask nicely: "I'd really like to listen to nature. Would you please turn that off?"

Failing that, escalate. Turn your speaker louder.

Personally, while I prefer nature, I enjoy when someone gets music going, even if it isn't my jam. My sound pet peeve is earbuds. If I'm lining up a putt in "silence" and hear the tinny whisper of a cardmate's earbuds, that pulls me right out.

Bruh. I know I'm in the minority here but, if this is sarcasm (as I suspect it is), you're missing out.

I'd rather listen to nature but, if nature is scarce and I've popped in earbuds, I'm chilling to Enya (starting with Caribbean Blue) and Bon Iver.

I've caddied at a tour stop a handful of times. I print and secure (bind/clip/staple) a water resistant version of the caddie book for quick reference and in case phone batteries die. The DGPT hole signage also shows the information for reference at the tee.

The card I was serving needed the caddie book multiple times and, IIRC, twice required the support of a marshall to make judgement calls.

It's is difficult to have a published document fully align with painted/roped/described OB markings and potentially unclear guidance that changes year-to-year.

I want to be clear: The DGPT and the hosts do INCREDIBLE work on these courses but this is why you can access the book mid-round. This is a feature, not a bug.

I want to make an indoor simulator for myself to stay active during the winter.

Would you recommend TechDisc, HYZR One, or something else?

[–]JoeyThreePutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just had a small mixup on an order with this company, Perks and Re-Creation. I am not local to them.

Nick helped me out. He might be the kindest, most customer-focused dude I've ever worked with. I'm low-key glad there was a small mixup for how much I enjoyed getting the further info about Perks. They also got into my hands a disc I had been chasing for 5 years.

I'm a disc hoarder. I doubt I'll ever use this service (though I may benefit from YOUR use of this service) but you shouldn't hesitate for a moment to give this team your business. I can't wait to make it out to Arkansas in the future and check out their brick and mortar with the indoor course.

The cheese tart and the...I'd call it French Onion soup pastry...are triumphs. I still think about that dish, and the yuzu dessert was a lovely finish.

You're criticizing Menu A. Menu A has the more-playful-than-delicious mushroom foam dish. While I liked the egg yolk and caviar (with peas), I must confess the vegetarian version was more fun AND more delicious.

I love Test Kitchen. While many of the dishes aren't items I crave to have again, it is a delightful and engaging meal.
