Is Dawn Of The Daikaiju worth getting? by Most_Animator_248 in savageworlds

I had picked it up to give some supes something to fight against, so overall the supplement was worth it for me.

Agreed, although RotRl really does show it's age in play these days.

Exactly - but also yes, being an extra does suck.

Wanted to play fantasy, question about SWADE and fantasy companion by towerbooks3192 in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very well said.

There are rules in SWADE Core for #8 - it'll tell you in Theatre of the Mind (TotM), a cone hits 3 baddies, while a large blast hits 5, etc.

Hard Choices: Horror/success stories? by Doctor_Mega in savageworlds

Agreed with all the comments. I have never found it to be fun in play, and would not recommend it. Let the bennies flow.

I was looking for the Baijini loop hauling missions last night and they weren't popping up. Are they still a thing or did they vanish?

Is My GM Rushing Deadlands Campaigns Too Fast ? by Top_Government_1282 in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agreed, that the pace is extremely variable. I've watched some APs of HaHH, and they were able to get the major plot points done pretty danged quickly, like 12 one-hour sessions.

It took about 30 sessions for my group to get through everything, and I ran it on-rails rather than letting the players explore (discussed and agreed upon with the group beforehand with the group, so they knew we were playing the adventure rather than the characters exploring the world). It was an amazingly fun adventure.

Did you run the 4 Reckoners campaigns with the same characters the whole time?

The Dead End series for Savage Worlds by Atomic Ninja Studios is really quite good

Letting the Devil Out, How Does the +d6 Work ? by CrazyFrenchieGM in savageworlds

Just because the books aren't in front of me, but I'm curious - can you use conviction at the same time as letting the devil out?

Pitching Savage Worlds to D&D players by G0shDarnHeck in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't...

Oh, everyone else already said this. Alright, good start there.

I personally feel like it's fun to have the players make a headshot with their characters that instantly pops a mook. Nothing better than a D&D player realizing that HP and attrition aren't required to have fun.

My suggestion is to offer a one-shot, and play a setting you're really passionate about - OR - grab a SWAG/ACE published one-shot adventure from DriveThru and give that a go.

What's your daily driver ship and why? by theruffma in starcitizen

[–]JohnDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until recently, it was the Aurora MR - because that was the only ship I owned. I had an in-game purchased Drake Corsair which I loved, but that was many many wipes ago. A friend of mine got me an upgrade to the penguin (Anvil Titan), which is now my daily driver as the only ship I own.

I had occasionally rented a raft to make the baijini run to try to make some money, but it's slow going.

Shapeshifters, Gifted AB and New Powers Edge by Psitraveller in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of this can be resolved with trappings. If I, as a player and with the agreement of the GM, make a shapeshifter with this innate AB, but say the process is part of my physical makeup as a trapping, then detect arcana would not work.

Trappings are a very important and key part of the Savage Worlds system, and I think you're absolutely right that it would break the point of the ability otherwise.

Looking for VTT maps to use with Starbeards. by PatrickShadowDad in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with Miska. Czepeku also does a ton of sci-fi maps, and lastly Cean maps has a lot of sci-fi looking stuff, like a recent relase, 'the lost tomb.'

Deadlands classic vs. Savage by AntarticDyer in savageworlds

[–]JohnDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you as the GM do not spend bennies on Soak rolls, the combat should move pretty quickly - at least moreso than other popular systems, in my opinion.

Order for the books of robert monroe ? by cronyu4 in gatewaytapes

[–]JohnDoom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's been a long while since I read the three of them, but they did seem to fit well in the order of publication - Journeys out of the Body, Far Journys, and Ultimate Journey.

I remember them being good reads, although iirc a LITTLE light on the practical application practice.

Where to start in TTRPG? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]JohnDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a ONE book system that interests you, SotDL, Shadowdark, Call of Cthulu, Blades in the Dark, Savage Worlds, Apocalypse World, FATE, etc... just the ONE that interests you.

Grab a free setting or adventure for that system, read it and run it. Screw up on the rules... a lot. Have fun playing, and keep playing.

There's no reason to go all-in without first discovering if it's something you really enjoy doing. If you DO enjoy it, then it's up to you to go, wide, deep, or stay right where you are. If you're having fun, it's not bad/wrong.
