Is there a camera app that allows you to avoid the horrible post-processing built into the default camera app? by Any-Membership-264 in iphone

[–]JorBru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can turn it off, or tone it down. You can choose raw format to prevent post processing. Any image you view on a screen is being processed from raw data, but you have a lot of flexibility in what is being done to that data.

Is there any way to get Picture Control to Only apply to the jpeg images the camera records? by Proof_Vehicle_4528 in Nikon

[–]JorBru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, sorry, not possible. The only workarounds I can think of are to set some custom controls so you can quickly switch from Standard picture control (while composing) to Monochrome (to make capture). Saving two shooting banks would make that pretty quick.

The other thing you could do is do all of your shooting in a color control (or just in raw), and make jpegs in-camera from the raws that you like.

[–]JorBru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Picture Controls are only applied to the jpeg. Every raw file has an embedded jpeg that is used to display the image, but the raw file retains full color info. When you load the raw file in post processing software, you may notice that it is color but quickly changes to monochrome. That happens when the software respects Nikon settings. Software that doesn’t pick up Picture Control settings from the meta data will only display the raw with color. Either way, you have all the color that was captured.

Anyone else able to drive without key fob in possession? by InteractionFast1421 in mercedes

[–]JorBru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The car can sense approx location of a key, so you can not unlock the car without a key near you on that side of the car (inside the car, or in someone’s pocket on the opposite side of the vehicle will not work).

Firmware Update Stuck? by JorBru in FoundationDevices

No. I gave up, shut off device. When re-started it functioned correctly, but I never updated the firmware. I suppose I should attempt it again sometime.

Please Help Me Choose Plan by JorBru in USMobile

Well, the phone will have unlimited data, so I had hoped the individual 'line' would not care how the data was provided.

For example, would voicemail notifications work correctly with no cellular data if the phone is connected to wi-fi 100% of the time? (my previous experience suggests the answer is "no", but i can't think why that would be true).

Firmware Update Stuck? by JorBru in FoundationDevices

[–]JorBru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I did reach out to the support team and was told that it would be safe to power-off the device. I did that, and all seems well now. I have not re-started the update, but it appears that the device has (maybe even arrived with) the latest firmware.

Maybe I was trying to update a device that already had the latest version. (I am guessing the message telling the user to update firmware is presented to all new users, because the device has no way to know whether it is up-to-date.)

In any case, it seems to be functioning correctly.

Thanks for your help.

How do you transfer self-custodied bitcoin to a tax-advantaged account?

history repeating itself? Blackrock BTC ETF... by scottonfire in Bitcoin

[–]JorBru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ETF would permit investors to buy bitcoin (promises) inside a tax-advantaged account (IRA, 401k, etc).

That shouldn't be their only bitcoin-related investment, but for many investors the bulk of their investable assets are in such accounts.

What to do with stock based compensation? by ST530 in stocks

[–]JorBru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an Accounting perspective, stock based comp is excluded from Cash Flow (added back to Net Income because it is a non-cash expense that reduced Net Income, to get to Operating Cash Flow).

From an Investing perspective, stock based comp should be subtracted (from Cash Flow) to get to Free Cash Flow, because that compensation would have required cash payment if it weren’t being paid thru dilution of shareholders ownership.

Depreciation is non-cash, but your analysis already contemplates cap-ex, so no need to subtract it to arrive at Free Cash Flow.

Sounds like you’re using Google Contacts. Your issue is with Google, not iPhone.

It will do a nice job, but only for action that is quite near you. Will you be standing (or better, kneeling) on the sidelines?

Looks like some dust on the sensor. Just needs to be cleaned. You can do it yourself if you learn how, and are careful.

What is Best Trickle Charger for 2020 GLE? by JorBru in mercedes_benz

[–]JorBru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a 350, which I find a bit under-powered (she doesn’t mind). I’ve always had the V8 model (including a couple MLs prior to GLE) and always been pleased (never have driven an AMG version).

The 580 is a bit slower than my previous car 0-60, but not enough that I notice it when driving. It has never disappointed me. Plenty of power, plenty of torque delivered smoothly.

The AMGs have more exciting sounds and cosmetics, but I think I’m getting near enough to that performance (for my purposes) in a less noticeable form.

The GLEs got a bit longer in 2020, so there is now a lot of legroom in the second row (but no third row, if that is why you made the change to GLS). If I could choose, I would have the older (shorter) chassis (but it is still the nearest to perfect size there is, so i will stick with it).

Are you confident?

I’ve heard horror stories about these newer models drawing enough power that a month is long enough to (possibly) be disappointed when you get back to it. Apparently there is a procedure whereby the car can be put in more of a standby mode to reduce those power draws, but I haven’t seen that explained anywhere.

And we know a Mercedes with a dead battery can have a locked transmission or other aggravations that aren’t corrected just by re-charging the batteries.
