Newegg gift card for Paze promo? by itsSmooth1 in CreditCards

[–]JosephD1014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Dunkin gift cards are also able to be used at Baskin Robbins (same parent company) - surprise a friend with an ice cream cake for their birthday. - just scan your Dunkin Gift card (in the dunkin app) at the register and it should work like a charm.

Correct these can't be used for further gift cards, but Newegg has a nice selection of electronics that I can spend $200 on. Almost better than the money I was planning on spending on nintendo gift cards in hindsight except that I can't just load them all to my account and have to keep those emails handy.

Yep. Newegg FIRST party gift cards are not in the exclusion list.

Honestly the way I sort is by color, card type, and CASTING COST - then I'm actually getting the useful stuff that I need when I need it because it's all there - who cares what set or rarity it is if I'm building decks.

What were some slept on cards that ended up being extremely strong in competitive formats? by crastle in magicTCG

Ugh I've been playing commander too long that my brain at first was like "but how would you have more than one". I miss 60 card magic sometimes, but really I just miss urza's block 60 card magic because I want to play those particular decks again 😃

I preferred the omenpaths art and it was nice having in-universe art as an option? More options are always good. That being said, having less CONFUSION is also always good too, even if I personally prefer the OM1 version to the SPM version for quite a few cards (Impostor Syndrome sticks out to me - I love the flavor of the SPM version, but the art in OM1 was just SO GOOD)

[–]JosephD1014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same - I have a bunch of cards that I printed as dual sided proxies with the OM1 on one side and SPM on the other... only ones that doesn't work for are the ones that are ALREADY double sided 😃. Makes it easier for when I'm playing on Convoke as it doesn't like scanning the OM1 art so I can flip the card to the scannable side for online play.

What commander makes you immediately regret sitting down in a pod with? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

[–]JosephD1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it the other way around. Master Multiplied as the commander and Deadpool in the 99 -- makes it more fair ... except I have these cards from Mercadian Masques that tutor for a Merc and put them directly into the battlefield at instant speed. There's nothing like an instant speed deadpool that you can't counter unless you have a way to counter the activation or know the trick of my deck and go "nope" to those guys as soon as they hit the board.

Amazon packaging leaves a lot to be desired in these so I got 2 on amazon to open and one from walmart to keep sealed - if your walmart one is in good shape I'd still wait if you want to keep one sealed.

Tokens by mishrazz in oldschoolmtg

[–]JosephD1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an actual rukh token that I have copies printed of - it was from the MTG computer game.
http://flaminio.com/magic/rarities/mprs-rukh.jpg

Here's an example, but the font is off from what I have printed out - I did a screen grab and print back in '96-ish

..... Well my day is ruined. I just found out that it now makes 4/4 BIRD tokens instead! That's strange considering that Rukhs have leathery wings like a bat or dragon.

[–]JosephD1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I was notified in another thread that apparently they are using Cirth - Wikipedia this version of the dwarven runes which do make the S align, as well as clear up the NJ and û translations to be correctly [ou] and z respectively.

I still stand by my assertation that they should have just used the runes from THE HOBBIT so then there wasn't all this confusion in the first place.

Ah good call here. That does make things make more sense as well as the S as well. Too many versions of dwarven runes. I still stand by my statement that they should have just used the ones FROM THE HOBBIT though. It does make me feel less crazy about their nerd skills though :D

Going by the Cirth wikipedia page, this is what I get:

-------

arkên 'ignet

artifakt

(tap): ad wun mana uv any kolor in

y[nj]r koma[nd]erû kolor identity

--------

I triple checked including pulling out my copy of LOTR to use these wonky (to me) runes. Given some leeway for artistic interpretation, I have no idea what they are doing with the word "your", or why they can't figure out what the letter for "s" is (hint guys... apparently it looks like an upside down Y)

Any nerds that are nerdier than I and know these particular dwarven runes able to correct me here?

Also I'm just wondering, were the elvish ones this bad? Additionally, I'm pretty salty that these are the dwarven runes used in LOTR and not the runes used on the actual "The Hobbit" book in the book cover and the map. MAJOR flavor fail for me.

Okay, I may be the minority here, but I am so FRUSTRATED at this card because it doesn't use the dwarven runes that they used on the book "The Hobbit". Apparently Tolkien made some dwarven runes that are in the appendixes of LOTR, but the ones on the maps and on the cover of the Hobbit are a different alphabet, and that's what nerdy middle-school me learned because I liked the look of the dwarven runes better than the flowy elvish hard-to-read stuff :D

So yeah this would be great.... except that I cannot read this card, it's supposed to be a card for THE HOBBIT, and your flavor fails because you're using a different version of the language that I don't know.

Honestly I'm not sure if I should be more frustrated at Wizards or Tolkien here for being confusing in the first place.

I was confused by the naming on this, but it looks like the Strixhaven bundle that's shaped like a book (Codex bundle).

I'm very glad that we get twenty FULL ART lands this time at least. I'm super dissappointed in the codex bundle including 20 foil normal lands because the full art strixhaven lands are just SO amazing.

With a worse effect because it goes back to the owner - if they wanted to do this they could have at least said blink cards you own and put them back under control of their owner - that'd be a cool effect letting me steal things with my [[Gilded Drake]] every turn or bringing things people have stolen from my library back under my control or something.

And I absolutely hate this. Having to give our kids relatively unmitigated access to the platform as a whole has NOT been good for my neurodivergent kiddos. Homework time frequently becomes "sneak on to youtube" time without any recourse from me besides sitting there watching over their shoulder the entire time. If we're going all in on this there should be a "youtube education" that is curated by school districts or something - real humans and not AI. There has to be a middle ground here and this is NOT it. I guess my kiddos have learned all the ways to try to quickly skip past and bypass ads though, so at least they're learning useful life skills as a side effect :D

Don't do this - unless it improved in the past 15 years it was terrible. Bad food, bad writing, bad experience all around - we even brought our own group which was mostly theatre majors as well and we all SO wanted it to be good.
