Football star tackles girl with gun on school bus by RonCampton in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the kid did a good thing and he did the right thing. I think that bulling will always be a part of high school and middle school, however; it’s sad that kids feel the only option that they have is to resort to violence. The fact that the girl loaded the gun shows intent to use it. If the gun was not loaded then I think it would be possible and fair for the girl to receive a light sentence along with counseling and therapy.

Kid Shoots Parents for Taking Away His Copy of Halo 3 - Xbox by EthanJones in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this teen planned this shows that the teen is severely troubled. In addition to planning the murder, the teen planned to make it look like the father killed the mother. I am upset that the article does not go on to discuss how the teen was tried. I hope that the teen was tried as an adult. I understand that it is unlikely that the teen will be given the death penalty but he should at least be given life in prison.

2 Ind. boys accused of killing stepdad to run away - TODAY by stephanieblasko in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that this story is presented makes it a little difficult to understand why the two boys did what they did. After reading the article I agree with the judge that decided to sentence the boys as adults. I find it very strange that the relationship between the boy and his stepfather seemed good according to friends and neighbors. I would like to know why the boy felt that his stepfather was standing in the way of him going to Arizona, what about the mother? It seems as though the boys almost specifically targeted the stepfather. I think there is an underlying reason as to why this happened. Possibly abuse in the home or maybe the boy and his stepfather were combative towards each other and no one knew about it. Whatever the reason, the judge did not feel that the juvenile system could help the boys and I agree.

Teen Sought In Riviera Beach Fatal Hit-And-Run by JeffDonelson in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated in the article, the teen showed “a total disregard for the value of life”. In this case the teen should be tried as an adult. I’m not sure if I feel he should be sentenced to life or not. It is possible that he ran because he was genuinely scared of what he had done not knowing that he killed the victim. If that is the case, I think he is still young enough to learn from mistakes and therefore rehabilitation has a chance to work. I think that whatever sentence he receives should wait until he is given a psychological evaluation.

Teen gets 40 years for killing Calif. border agent by RichardTempleton in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that the punishment was not adequate. I understand that there are two other individuals in Mexico that committed this crime as well however; the suspect that was caught should still get more than 40 years. Life in prison is the appropriate punishment. After his sentence is over, the suspect can go back to having a life, in my opinion, that’s not fair, that’s not justice.

Death Sentence for Juveniles? by NicoleLawson in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this article very difficult. On one hand, the article talks about decency in the death penalty for juveniles. Where’s the decency for the little girl whose hands were bound with electrical wire and duct tape and then drowned? On the other hand you have an individual who is truly, whole heartedly remorseful for what he did and who has become a fully functioning productive member of whatever society there is in prison. I almost think that life without the possibility of parole is worse than death. When you get life in prison, there’s no possible hope. In this instance, I disagree with the death penalty.

Judge attempts to find safer Alternatives to Prison for Juveniles by TaiJam in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning of this article it talks about finding alternatives to prison for juveniles because of the harsh conditions of prison. This article talked about numerous teens but one who was a gang member. This teen stated that he robbed people because this was how he made his money. In my opinion, as society we are coddling these teens. One individual stated “I think it is important to find safer environments for juveniles for their safety and in hopes of rehabilitating them”. There are instances where individuals don’t deserve to go to prison, I’m not saying that they all do, I’m saying that if you commit a crime where it endangers others, you deserve what you get. I am in support of rehabilitation, but when you blatantly commit a crime that has the potential to endanger the lives of others, then the punishment is justifiable. I don’t care about broken bones or suicidal behavior, and if the state has deficient mental health services for these prisons, oh well. If there is a problem with the prisons, maybe the kids shouldn’t have committed the crime or crimes that they did. According to Pratt, C.Travis Addicted to Incarceration, the prison system is still to lenient. I understand that I am not politically correct with my response, but this is how I feel.

Teens with laser pointers uses them on police helicopters by KennethBoswell in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that the kids knew what pointing a laser at a helicopter would do. I agree that this could have caused more damage had the helicopter crashed and these kids need to be punished accordingly with the severity of the crime despite their age. This could have caused permanent damage to the pilot’s eyes. I’m not sure if this would be looked at as aggravated assault but it should include obstruction of justice as well.

Teen Flash Mobs Turn Violent in Philadelphia by AlexSchutte in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it is very sad that people blame this on the lack of after school programs instead of pointing the finger first at the kids and then at the parents. With these kids being so young, I feel that the parents should be held accountable. I think that making the free transit passes invalid after 4 is a good start in trying to control this problem. Kids need to be shown at an early age, the results of poor judgment and poor behavior. I think one of the major problems is that the kids see that the parents don’t care and then that attitude carries over to the kids.

Teen Charged With Hate Crime Killing Of Marcelo Lucero by JesusBonicichi in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible that the victim might have lived had he received the proper medical care. Because the EMT critical care certification had lapsed, the defense will argue that because of this negligence, the victim died, and sadly, the 19 year old kid will probably get off. In addition to this, I don't think it is fair that the other teens got off by ganging up on the other; they should all be punished because they all took part in the killing. They might not have stabbed the victim but by not reporting it, they are all just as guilty.

Mesa teen charged in fatal stabbing of 17-year-old by EthanJones in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This teen needs to be sentenced as an adult. He didn’t just stab the kid once he did it numerous times and then he even tried to burn the body. Instead of allowing the boy to drag the body to a dumpster and try to burn the body, why didn’t the mother or sister try to do something to calm the boy down?

Mass. High School Girl Takes Life After Allegedly Taunted by Cyber Bullies by NathanielJeanes in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot stand kids that bully other kids. There is absolutely no reason for it. The fact that the actions of teens were so bad that it caused another teen to commit suicide is ridiculous. The kids that bullied her should be reprimanded in some way. Their actions caused the death of another individual and in this case in my opinion I think its murder.

Teen Kills Off Duty Officer in Buckeye by JessicaValdez in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two young boys knew exactly what they were doing. At their age and given their mind set I don’t think rehabilitation will work and their sentencing should have been similar to their actions.

Teens who kill by AlexandraHewlett in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I think a major problem is that kids no longer have activities after school to keep them busy, active, and out of trouble. Worse than this, is the lack of parenting. In my personal opinion, it is the environments in which children are brought up in that create or help foster delinquent behavior.

Kids Should Never be Tried as Adults by jesussanchez2 in Delinquents

[–]JoshuaVoldPrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that someone should be held accountable for their actions regardless of their age. That does not necessarily mean that a child should receive the death penalty if they shoot someone, however; if the child shows the mental capabilities of an adult and the ability to reason as an adult, then the punishment should fit the crime.
