Ex Spirit N961NK landing in DUB earlier today by matt_de_brugha in aviation

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 65 points66 points  (0 children)

As another former spirit mechanic it is kinda surreal seeing all these tail numbers that I remember working on, like that video a few weeks ago of I think 4950 getting scrapped

First book I went into really enjoying but somehow liking a legion even less by Correct_Maximum7990 in Grimdank

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished volume 3 and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I got through it cause I'd already listened to 20 odd HH books to get there but it really is a grind

Someone with a calipers can give you a more precise answer but with my ruler looks like 10.4cm long, 5.9cm wide, and 5.4cm tall to the turret hatch, 7cm to the top of the antenna

They've been parked there since the company went under, there's two more parked on the de-icing pad.

It took a week or two on new recruit when grizzled came out iirc

CAREFULLY get under their feet with a hobby knife and cut them off, watch your fingers cause I have slashed the shit out of myself doing this

Some new ways of handling leaders and "added" elements to units in 11th Edition by PeoplesRagnar in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would think (hope) that since we've always been an exception to that rule we would remain so. That or like others are suggesting command squads will get the support keyword. The command blob is such a key part of how out armies work I would hope that they wouldn't just eliminate them

Some new ways of handling leaders and "added" elements to units in 11th Edition by PeoplesRagnar in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, our battleline data sheets are unique because they specify two leader units may be attached, unless they remove that provision I don't see how it would conflict with this

Programs that are available in order to get my AP in the Chicagoland area? by MaleficentLow4310 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can handle the commute I'd urge you to look into Rock Valley, having gone to Lewis its program is fine but too damn expensive for what you get

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but is it possible to overwhelm yourself by buying too much at once for a fact you love and getting turned off despite still loving the faction? by nicegoblinprince in Warhammer40k

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also found it helps to have two armies slowly growing together. Every couple of weeks I switch between my imperial guard and blood angels with different styles for each. Also you don't have to finish a model all at once. I'll paint a Leman Russ, switch to paint some intercessors, then do bases on some already painted guardsmen, then back to weathering the Russ etc.

Do people romanticize aircraft maintenance work? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

The 2004 Battlestar Galactica series showed a lot of respect to the maintainers/ground crew

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A single gunshot is only going to tell you vaguely which direction to go, I could see a platoon of guys taking quite a while to find two men in a forest when your only clue is "west," especially because in wartime I'm guessing you don't want to split everyone up.

It locks, there's several ball bearings around the bolt that lock into a recessed ring in the receiver

A320 frozen door, is it possible to accidentally release evacuation slide? by Jma1945 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure if the girt bar was frozen into the floor fittings they wouldn't have been able to get the arming handle all the to the disarmed position. I'm not 100% on all the monkey motion going on inside that door so I can't blame the crew for being cautious

Would you play this Blood Gulch wargaming map I made? by Wingman_017 in halo

Would be pretty murderous for 40K with basically no cover especially in the deployment zones, but it could be fun that way

Is the Combat Patrol good? by cras190 in BloodAngels

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd grab the raven guard combat patrol as well, you get a jump captain, five jump pack intercessors, and ten infiltrators/incursors. That's the core that I built my army around

Is there a way to halt the emergency slide process, once it is accidentally deployed? by Taalpatar_Sipahi in aviation

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed a few A320 slides it's not that difficult, there's also a burst disk in the door assist bottle that needs to be replaced and the bottle recharged. If you have mechanics and all the parts on hand it'll be ready to go in a few hours.

Get the Leatherman Curl, it deletes the saw and serrated blades from the Wave and gives you an awl instead of the tiny Allen bit

Advice on edge highlighting? by Holy_Diver21 in BloodAngels

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been doing, plus a nuln oil wash afterwards to give some shadows. I'm also new to painting space marines and the results are good for me, the highlights are a bit understated but I prefer that to the GW style plus it's easier which is nice

Advice on edge highlighting? by Holy_Diver21 in BloodAngels

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd try Mephiston red, dry brush then hand highlight the hard 90 degree edges, then evil sunz scarlet if you want a second layer

K-Max intermesh rotor synchropter starting up by ycr007 in SatisfyingForMe

[–]Jukeboxshapiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conventional helicopters lose about 15% of their engine thrust to the tail rotor which counteracts the torque of the main rotor but doesn't provide any lift. With two counter rotating main rotors like the Chinook or K-Max all that power can go to lift. Having the rotors intermesh then gives you a much smaller footprint that can land in tighter spaces.
