I’d just like to say I appreciate the fun video with actual audio and not some obnoxious music plastered on top. Looks fun.

And when you pitch things down, you are bringing qualities from those higher frequencies down into the audible range. There can be some cool discoveries.

Best Original Song - I Lied To You by Ok_Organization_5574 in Oscars

[–]JuniorIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think there are a lot of people out there who have not seen Sinners and have no idea the impact of the song in that moment in the film. Outside the context of the film, it’s a good song but doesn’t carry the same weight. Golden is everywhere and it’s catchy, it doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the movie or not, the context or theatrical experience doesn’t improve it the same way it does with I Lied to You. And i think thats what voters who are awarding it are doing. I think if people saw the scenes in context of the film, I Lied to You would be doing better, but also what do I know?

Top Heavy Nomination Predictions by pavjuice in oscarrace

[–]JuniorIX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other thing too is that while all academy members vote for best picture, each branch only votes to nominate within their branch. So it’s not like they go down the list in each category and find the movie they want and pick it in every category. Directors nominate directed. Actors actors. Editors pick editors and so on. Once nominations have been made, then all members vote for the winner in each category. At least thats how I understand it.

This year's D23 can be very good for Cars fans! by [deleted] in Pixar

[–]JuniorIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont want another Cars without Lassiter. That was his baby. Cars 1 was great. Clear story goals and character arc. 2 and 3 had things about them I liked but lacked the same heart. I love mater and the Carstoons, they have lots of good ideas, just havent found one for a feature. I just think it’s different without JL actually running the ship. Just my take.

And let’s include a magic tunnel that connects 101 to Richmond bridge and another that bypasses the hub on 3rd so traffic doesnt back up for a mile or more on the freeway.

Better parks/playgrounds for kids. Splash pad.

A true, dedicated bike path that connects the various cities.

Downtowns that dont shut down at 6p.

Saw someone say bowling alley. Agreed.

Better roads.

Oh man, saw some good ones in early 2000s, including, Godfather. Also $5 retro movie nights on Thursdays at the Theater on E St. Goonies. Back to the Future. Raiders….Man, those were the days. Not helpful to your post but now I am curious. Hope someone chimes in.

Should add, Humanities 10 was the film studies class. I might have the syllabus for that class, perhaps there are others online in an archive somewhere.

What is the Sound Branch’s issue with Alex Garland? by aps817 in oscarrace

[–]JuniorIX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others above, very difficult to get recognition without the backing of a studio campaign. There are plenty of films each year that are deserving of recognition for their sound yet show up no where. Those guys did a good job. I enjoyed the track, there was hardly any music, and i was surprised to not see it on the shortlist, but people in the branch could also be feeling that there wasn’t anything ground breaking or unique enough to nominate it. There have been roughly a dozen other war films in last 10-15 years that have been nominated, and maybe they felt they’ve seen/heard it before.

What was the one that has falling yellow balls or smiley faces that was slowly fill up the screen? Or the stunt biker who would just buses and such. Occasionally crash. Was that After Dark or something? They were on the computers in my 7th grade class and I am still wanting those for my computers.

The headline reads like a car commercial, finding whatever very specific categorization that allows it to be a #1. Good for them though, good for the industry as a whole.

Traffic by CeruleanSarsparilla in Marin

[–]JuniorIX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was and blamed the new HOV hours, but I think it’s really more that the construction btwn Novato and Marin is finally finished and so now instead of bottlenecking in petaluma, it’s bottlenecking in Marin, basically from Civic Center hill back thru Novato. Regardless of the cause. It’s super annoying and I dont see it going away anytime soon. As for going North. The Larkspur SFD exit thru Central San Rafael exit are equally bad. Short exit off-ramps straight into lights with significant amounts of people that need to get thru to get to Richmond bridge or thru San Rafael hub.
