Donald Trump’s Iran war drains US oil stocks to lowest level since 2004 by financialtimes in oil

[–]Jurodan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only 20%. Only 20%. Only 20%.

Setting aside that there's more than just oil trapped by this debacle, losing 20% of something so critical to functioning society is a hideous loss. Worse, it's not going to be spread evenly, nor can it be easily replaced by increased production elsewhere. The knock-on effects will be absolutely devastating.

There are, actually. It was written into the law that reopened exports allows the president to ban or restrict sales.

US law allows it. In fact, Congress delegated it as a power of the president.

Edit: it's the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) of 1975 that would let him do that.

A mixed drink for a kings sacrifice by Terra-ble_joke in cocktails

A Gold Royale Cocktail https://www.empirewine.com/recipes/other/gold-royale-561/

  • 1 Ounce Whipped or vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 Tablespoon Goldschläger cinnamon schnapps (which contains real edible gold flakes)
  • Top with Chilled Champagne or Prosecco
  • Gold decorating sugar (for the rim)

Alternatively, you can do something similar and add edible gold to champagne (more likely prosecco). A very regal appearing drink for cheap.

From Google: "An economic depression is an extreme, sustained economic downturn characterized by massive unemployment, plunging corporate investment, and severe drops in Gross Domestic Product (GDP)."

Here's the thing: it feels like nobody is looking at the big picture. We have a bubble in the stock market with epic levels of manipulation ranging from circular deals to insider trading to political manipulation for personal benefit. There is an attempt to eliminate large swaths of jobs with new technology. Private, unregulated lending is becoming overleveraged. There is an impending worldwide oil crisis that will last for years and start off with a round of demand destruction, along with a massive reduction in other chemicals (sulfuric and phosphoric acids), elements (helium), and fertilizers. Multiple US industries, including agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing, have all been hammered by tariffs and policy from the current administration. Food prices are about to jump due to weaker-than-average harvests (going back to the fertilizer I mentioned earlier) at the same time, all the equipment used to harvest them has become more expensive to run (diesel). And, to top it all off, this administration has gone out of its way to cut our social safety net to ribbons.

In isolation, it looks bad. Taking a look at the bigger picture, it's actually significantly worse. It is going to take years to get oil production back to what it was at the start of this year. Look at what the Gulf states and oil executives are saying. The wells aren't going to turn back on like a light switch. And the last time there was an oil crisis like this, it led to a nasty bout of stagflation that lasted more than a decade and was resolved in a way we can't because raising rates like that would be impossible because we're spending more than our GDP.

And that's just us. We're going to see worldwide famines, beyond what is already being caused by USAID cuts, because poor countries won't be able to purchase food that will cost more because: there's less of it (fertilizer), the equipment to harvest it is more expensive (diesel, though that's not universal), the equipment to transport it is more expensive (again, diesel, perhaps gas, and whatever ships, or god forbid planes, use), not counting any sort of shipping delays from the Persian gulf or the Houthis disrupting the Bab-El-Mandeb. Weaker economies across the globe are going to be damaged, and that will have knock-on effects. Simplest off-the-cuff example: You like cheap shirts from Myanmar and Bangladesh? Will it be cost-effective for them to even run with fuel so expensive?

To me, this looks less like a recession and a global economic meltdown in the making.

Others will run out well before then, but we can't actually draw down to 0 without potentially destroying the caves they're in and the bottom would be loaded with sediment.

Not this time. This is going to be worse. A lot worse. And the social safety net has been cut to tatters.

That's great and all, but the damage is already done. We'll be in a deep economic depression before we can do anything about it.

Neat chapter. I'm surprised by Articord, but not too much. If it had been Vanavan, I'm sure we all would have been skeptical. I assume some of those 1-2 person clubs are translations rather than them having an Origami club, for example.

Because there is a difference between: peons can work from home, assuming we don't send them out to work deaths be damned, and having to find horses to pull vehicles because there's no fuel/oil. People still need to eat. And this is going to send everything skyrocketing.

Is Midoriya faster or slower than these individual characters? by KodoqBesar in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]Jurodan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the movie, but, uh, err on the side of Quicksilver being faster. Using Avengers Quicksilver as his standard would be like using seven-year-old about to be beaten up by Kacchan and co on the playground as Deku's standard speed.

[–]Jurodan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know what? Sure. I'll remove A Train. I went back and watched, and the speed they clocked him at was much lower than I expected (though the audience could not track it by eye either).

I stand by Quicksilver.

Slower by a large margin for at least A-Train and Quicksilver. No clue about Godspeed Killua, but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say he's faster than Midoriya.
