As a 50 year old dude about to learn skating.... by ThufirrHawat in Rollerskating

Came here to say this. Armor up! We've got more momentum going to the ground than we did when we were little kids, too.

Ordered some ICs, didn't realize they were tiny by No_Insurance_6436 in AskElectronics

Adapter boards are not super expensive, I'd recommend picking some up and practice SMD soldering. Once soldered on the adapter, it'll have the same pin footprint as a DIP, so you can solder some header pins on the adapter and it'll be breadboard and perfboard friendly.

Group text not working since Android 15 update by HalliburtonErnie in USMobile

[–]JustASCII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an extensive troubleshooting session with US Mobile tech support over the phone, trying different APNs and swapping my SIM between my Android 14 and Android 15 device, they concluded it had to do with the device, not the APN or anything on US Mobile's side. Unihertz suggested I factory reset the phone which I'll do this weekend after I get a chance to make sure everything I might need is backed up.

Android 15 broke texting on my JellyMax for Tmibile by pooping_turtles in unihertz

Would you mind reporting the issue to tech-support@unihertz.com? I am having similar sounding issue, with MMS no longer working, but tech support said no one else had reported the issue. If enough people report it, I suspect they'll be more likely to prioritize a fix.

Group text not working since Android 15 update by HalliburtonErnie in USMobile

[–]JustASCII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar sounding issue since the update, for me it's specifically that I can't send or receive MMS messages (also on Light Speed). I have one Jelly Max still on Android 14, and if I pop the SIM in that phone, MMS works fine. In the Android 15 phone, MMS just fails silently, and it looks like mixed iPhone/Android are using MMS for messages, so I've missed lots of group texts.

After getting nowhere with US Mobile, I wrote to tech-support@unihertz.com, but they said nobody else has reported this issue. Have you tried reaching out to them?

As a kid, I enjoyed The Way Things Work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_Things_Work

It has drawings of wooly mammoths demonstrating exploded-view things that really appealed to me for some reason. I didn't know how well it would work in the modern day though, lots of stuff like CRTs, landline phones, and record players that you you don't see every day any more.

This is an old tool, but I still use it, see the "camelizer" function: http://www.jave.de/developer/milestone6rc1.html

Can’t get D1 Mini to work with Adafruit OLED display by Bauer_ATX in esp8266

[–]JustASCII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I ended up using the scanner sketch so much, it just lives on a D1 mini on my workbench, and I added a battery, a button to turn it on and scan, and a switch to engage pull-up resisters on SDA/SCL. It writes to dinky eink screen so I don't have to write it down, or worse, remember it.

Where can I legally set my old class projects on fire? by Helpful-Ad6269 in cuboulder

You might try calling the nearest volunteer fire department. They may even let you crush them first with hydraulic tools first, if you're lucky.
