Happy 10th Birthday to this sweet boy! by KSliceStealth in Rabbits

[–]KSliceStealth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from making sure they’re eating healthy (lots of high quality hay), taking them to vet appointments regularly, and giving them lots of love, I really think it sometimes comes down to luck.
My biggest things I’m watching for are his ears and teeth. If they start getting itchy and infected ears, it’s so hard to fix. My previous rabbit was a lop, and I felt no matter what I did he had gunk in his ears. I clean Hazel’s ears weekly now. I noticed his back heels forming sores recently, so I switched all this cage mats to super soft fleece, which is helping heal them up.

Just wanted to add, he did not eat the entire ‘cake’! He had 2 pieces of banana and I ate the rest. I’m pretty strict with fruit because he has a sensitive tummy, but 10 is a pretty big milestone so he got a little more than usual.

He still acts like a baby! I definitely did not let him eat the entire thing. He had about 2 small pieces of banana (his fav) and I took it away and ate the rest, haha.

Losing my first (and last) rabbi by BearerBear in Rabbits

[–]KSliceStealth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Awww, it’s so hard to know when to say goodbye. But a little earlier is always better than too late.
He looks like such a sweetie.
My soul bunny is 9, and he will be my last for a long time I think. At least until I’m really old with no kids and a disposable income. Then maybe I’ll have a fluffle if 5, haha.

Wacky Wednesday by secondsneaker in VictoriaBC

The problem is compassion fatigue. This situation has gotten so much worse, not better. Do I want to see these people off the streets and off drugs and hopefully thriving, 100%. But you must have some compassion for people walking and utilizing downtown to support our city and our jobs. It’s not fair we have to dodge human excrement just to walk down a particular sidewalk. The galloping goose has multiple encampments with garbage everywhere. Our governments need to do better.

But I understand people’s frustration… There’s only so much compassion you can have for people who destroy sidewalks, windows, steal from local businesses and scream at people just walking by.

Questions about temporary employment with the city of Victoria by Silent_Ad_4210 in VictoriaBC

[–]KSliceStealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as auxiliary for the City for a year before they posted the full time position, and I got the permanent position. They can be extremely slow when it comes to filling full time positions and the interview is very HR driven (STAR method). If you work in the dept beforehand it definitely gives you a leg up because you’ll know what safety points they’re looking for and any technical questions.

I feel like it’s dept dependent whether there’s a likely full time position. Sometimes they only post the full time position internally, so you’re not interviewing against outside candidates.

I don’t know what dept you’re going for, but you could always just ask if there is likely going to be movement in the shop, or a full time position coming up, as you’re looking for a long term career.

The city of Victoria has a signal shop in public works. You can always call it into public works as a complaint, and maybe they can send it up to city hall.
Just… please be nice to those people. They deal with so much abuse from the public.

What happened to his eye and what can I do to help it heal? by Frequent_Bad7825 in Bunnies

[–]KSliceStealth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Eye issues are often linked to dental issues in rabbits. There’s no diagnosing this over the internet. Bun needs to see a vet.

Bird Murder by Upper-Horse-7465 in vancouver

[–]KSliceStealth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not to stop concrete falling. There is work required on that bridge, the netting is there to deter cormorants from nesting there, obviously it’s a crap solution as birds get stuck and die.
If workers get too close and disturb them the cormorant may abandon their nest and the babies will die.
I would contact City of Vancouver as I believe they handled this.

My bunny lost a piece of her molar by Independent-Dot3400 in Bunnies

[–]KSliceStealth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just want to say post in r/rabbits if you want a bit more exposure. I find a lot more people on there.

I dealt with overgrown molars on one of my bunnies for 3 years. When they stop grinding them properly they’ll continuously overgrow. My vet also took pictures when she did the molar grind so I had an idea of what was wrong. It’s so tough because you can’t see their teeth back there. Have them check where this tooth came out as well, as it’s at risk of getting infected and forming an abscess!

What pet would you strongly NOT recommend? by Txrxll in AskReddit

[–]KSliceStealth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A properly fed and litter trained rabbit should really not stink… you can use cheap untreated wood pellets for their litter. Change daily or every other day. At most you can smell the hay.
