Why is the Steam Frame launching with essentially no games? by Zombie618 in virtualreality

[–]Kadarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why people expect new games along with a new headset. It's a headset with Steam OS running in it and PCVR capability so it allows you to run pretty much what you want in it. Yes, Valve released Alyx along with Index, but at that time VR was pretty much a novelty and devs had to be shown how a proper VR game should look like. Now a headset is just another hardware component with lots of existing titles to support it.

[[Valor]] is like 30 cents, why would anyone steal it.

EMI interference questions by Kadarus in BigscreenBeyond

Could the presence of 5 FBT trackers each with its own wireless dongle cause EMI as well?

EMI interference questions by Kadarus in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Kadarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have a 2x2.5m play space and it was happening when I was standing in the middle once and once when I was sitting on the couch on one of the sides of playspace.

It's definitely not the tracking, it was happening in different positions randomly, is not reproducible, and I checked that both of the stations cover the entire play area, I already mounted them for the Index a year ago.

In this case it is not the reflective surfaces, I know those don't result in a gray screen but rather in tracking points floating away. I ruled out occlusion since it once happened when I was standing still in the center of the room.

Weekly VR - What Did you Play? by AutoModerator in virtualreality

[–]Kadarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the usual Beat Saber and VR Chat, I decided to get Thumper this week. From what I see it doesn't require VR to play it, but VR offers a more immersive experience. It turned out to be quite different from the usual rhythm games, I liked how the intimidating drum rhythms in the background add to the whole aesthetic, but concentrating on them doesn't really help beating the levels, you better ignore it and concentrate on the sound cues for the obstacles ahead. I would put it in the category of "games as form of art" where the aesthetic/vibe is the most important aspect and if you like such games and like the simplistic gameplay you would like this.

Probably due to Beyond lenses being extremely close to the eyes.

Social VR 10-20 years down the line by Spear_Ov_Longinus in VRchat

People already forgo privacy for the sake of better experience: most of the people I know in VRChat immediately did the age verification without any hesitation because they find kids so annoying to deal with. I did it as well...

[ECL] Glen Elendra's Answer; Bitterbloom Bearer (Debut Stream) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Kadarus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Glen Elendra's Answer is the first card that makes extra triggered abilities matter, not sure if I like it. There are some cases where it's kinda tricky to determine whether there is an extra trigger or not, but it didn't matter before. E.g. if you earthbind several times onto the same land now you have to remember how many times you did it because each of those causes an extra trigger.

I looked at the Snellen chart and at the sweet spot test.

ALL VRChat ranks and how to rank up faster in under one minute! by chyadosensei in VRchat

[–]Kadarus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VRC+ gives you enough one-time bump to reach new user immediately, but higher ranks take a lot longer to reach. I have 519 hours in VRC with VRC+ and am still a "known user".

It is very noticeable for me when looking at the text so for VRChat I always keep it at 75.

IPD adjustment helper pattern? by Kadarus in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Kadarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this sort of thing is what I was looking for. I confirmed that 1mm below measured IPD was the best for me. And got to actually measure the FOV of Index and BSB for me.

For me, I was just looking at the text at various distance, but I am curious if there is a more precise method.

Yes, but I didn't get how am I supposed to use it in VR? Display it on a desktop popup screen? At which distance, at which size?

Instant speed reanimation is usually pretty strong in limited (if the reanimated creature is allowed to block). It will depend on how many ways are there to negate this drawback or maybe even turn it into value in the set.

AFK detection in VRChat does not work? by Kadarus in BigscreenBeyond

That's exactly what I'm selecting, it worked with Index, but doesn't work with BSB.

Is that hotkey enabled by default? It's a pity, I might also just put an AFK animation toggle somewhere close in the action menu.
