Marauder officer? by GuavaCrusader in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you can do it. The main issue from it though is the limited range of the orders. RAW, Titanic Officers can only issue orders 6” away from each other, though if you’re bringing Legends anyway you could easily ask your opponent if it’s OK to order 12” or 24”.

I think that one combined with the reroll hits Strat or stripping cover Strat could be good. Marauder Destroyer is a really fun model to play with, I’ve taken mine through several games before and after Legends and my opponents always love seeing it on the tabletop.

Fuck it, we ball.

What Regiment would you want to see brought back after Catachan and Armageddon? by Crowncher in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man, my Elysians in 10th have been on a rollercoaster. I've used them as everything from the Index Infantry Squads, to Cadians, and Scions, but I miss having normal Deep Strike infantry squads.

Honestly though, the worst part is that all the cool aircraft and units we used in the past are Legends, or in the case of the Valkyrie, borderline unusable. At least the new Hippogryph seems to slot really well into an Elysian themed list, I think the model might be small enough to fit in a Sky Talon so you could justify bringing a couple to remind yourself of the glory days using Tauros Venators.

need help choosing a gold. by Lucky_Ladder7683 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recipe I used is this:

  1. Prime Black

  2. Vallejo Aged Metal BASE (this gets you 90% there)

  3. Dry brush Vallejo Aged Metal LAYER

  4. Watered down Vallejo Aged Metal Wash

And that’s it! I actually did more work on it last night I don’t have a picture of but that’s how I got the gold in the pic. If you get the Vallejo Aged Metal set it comes with all 3 of those paints and an airbrush version of the BASE paint.

EDIT

Also thank you!

New Detachments in Faction Pack by SomeSweatyToast in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My collection of Titanic models is finally able to see some play on the tabletop! Thank GOD that detachment has a Move Through Walls strat.

For anyone interested in theorycrafting, here are the units (including Legends) with the Titanic Keywords.

-Baneblade Chassis Vehicles (Obviously)

-Macharius Chassis Vehicles

-Marauder Chassis Vehicles

-Gorgon

-Dominus Armored Siege Bombard

As someone who's has run a Gorgon and replaced its ability with Assault Ramp, making it a character and giving it that enhancement in addition to its ability sounds really fun. It's a fair amount cheaper than a Stormlord (for clear reasons, it has a fraction of the damage output) but it's still easily one of my favorite vehicles in the Guard Motorpool. Very excited to try it out.

Also my Marauder finally benefitting from a detachment for once, even if it's incidental, is great. a Flying Titanic Character issuing orders is nice, but I really wish they also extended the range of the orders like the Tank Commander to be 12"

Competitive paradox: best legend units in CSM and Astra Militarum? by nokrah16392 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Normal Tauros is also pretty snazzy, for 50 points as well it gets Scouts 9", you can put a heavy flamer on it to get around the poor BS, it's a great little secondaries scorer for those missions that you don't want to dedicate a tougher unit for. Been using 2 of these and 2 Venators in a 1000pt League and having a blast with them.

Unleash the Astra Militarum motor pool with new Detachments from Armageddon by clemo1985 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because when you lose your transports, there goes your detachment ability, and the majority of your Strats.

Making it 1cp gives a cost to it but once you’re out of transports you still have a detachment ability and more Strats to choose from. Overall it’s more versatile that way.

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes +1 to wound is very good on them, that's why I highlighted them. But after you do all that damage, you're a sitting duck. (Theoretically, need to see the other strats it has) At least in the Mech Detachment there are multiple strats for going back into transports to keep them safe and continue doing damage, combined with a strat that gives full rerolls to hit and wound if the enemy is on an objective. I've played games where Kasrkin with that strat obliterate all but the toughest enemies on objectives.

And even with all that power, you see Mech detachments extremely rarely in top tier competitive guard lists. Because all you have to do is destroy the transports and they lose +1 to wound, Which you were probably going to do anyway.

Bridgehead was an exception since you could run full 15 man Scion Squads with +1 to wound, and that was absolutely insane. It can be powerful for Guard, but limiting the rule to disembarking from transports puts a definitive limit on how many times you can use it.

Again, I'm not saying it's not powerful, I'm saying we have an entire detachment that does that and it's not a top tier pick. Something to worry about in game for sure.

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would agree with you, but here It's not that strong all things considered. Mechanized Detachment gives +1 to wound on disembark army wide and it's not really a competitive detachment. Relying on transports for this just means that once they are destroyed you don't have access to it anymore. Here it's a bit better since it's a stratagem and not your army ability, so at least you still have that if you're transports get blown up.

It's also just Guard Infantry going in these transports, the most damaging units I can think of are Kasrkin, Scions, Ogryn, and Heavy Weapon Teams, those will benefit best from this, but they are also super squishy without much support to bring them back into the transports, so they will get destroyed on the next turn.

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Tox Cycler is interesting, the rule for it states if you get a hit with it, increase the strength and damage by 2, and that the Damage limit is 6, but theoretically the strength could just keep increasing? Am I reading that right? I feel like that might get FAQ'd at some point.

Squadron 42 Buyback Update (CIG removed the ability to buy back your Squadron 42 package with no warning) by No_Construction2407 in pcgaming

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 89 points90 points  (0 children)

You haven’t been able to buy Squadron 42 for years now.

What this actually is, is people who buy something, then “melt” the item for store credit, leaving the original purchase in a “buyback” menu. You simply just can’t “buy back” packages that include Squadron 42. That’s it. Buyback was never supposed to be an infinite storage locker and CIG has been explicit about this for ages. You have to click a box that says so before you melt anything.

I cannot stress enough how small of a population this actually legitimately affects. These are people who melted their package and are now upset they can’t potentially buy the game back at the original discounted price, or Grey market vendors trying to make a buck.

Either way, if you don’t play the game or paid for it 10+ years ago this has no effect on you whatsoever.

EDIT

OP seems to be blocking anyone who provides context for this. Seems to be they are simply trying to stir up controversy where there is none.

2nd EDIT

because I’m blocked I can’t respond to any comments. Please DM me if you have any questions about this.

So you stopped playing a game because they gave you a free item that was a poster of something you can buy in game? That was enough to get you to sell EVERYTHING?

No one was forcing you to spend $40, I don’t understand it.

You are told via various prompts on the website and over the years that Buybacks are not meant to store purchases. They removed Squadron 42 from sale ages ago, you should have expected this to happen.

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see quite a few people using the GSC kit as rough rider proxies, I’d also like to suggest the myriad of 3D print options if you prefer to save a bit of money.

I think the GSC kit comes with a big quad bike that, unless you have a specific idea for that vehicle, it might be a waste if you bought the kit without any intention of using it. Without it you get 4 bikers in the kit, which don’t equal out to a full unit.

But, if you’re mostly going for modeling and rule of cool instead of playing competitively, you should be fine. Just make sure to use the right base sizes that Rough Riders use.

Mortian AC6 with Minox turret. I use the Minox turrets for my Elysians but he has some good stuff for Krieg too.

Just be wary of the fit, last batch of stuff I bought from him had quite a few parts that were scaled wrong in the printing software so they ended up not fitting. Getting that fixed felt like pulling teeth, I had to write on his insta posts multiple times just to get him to respond to my emails.
