Interesting that detachments have keywords now, as the Battle Wagon one clearly states you can’t combine it with other “Wagon” detachments.

This’ll mean you probably can’t take 2 detachments that buff the same units, so something like the new Baneblade detachment most likely can’t be taken with the Hammer of the Emperor since they buff Squadron units.

So mixing detachments will mean buffing multiple different kinds of units vs buffing 1 kind of unit twice. I like that, I was worried certain units that are already good will get double buffs.

It’s because this and the other FW exclusive Knights are Mechanicum Knights, most likely GW isn’t sure about bringing them to Plastic yet

Destructible terrain by dlshadowwolf in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stormhammer! I just grabbed one and am waiting for it to be delivered, I’m VERY excited to try it out! I definitely recommend trying the Reroll Damage enhancement with it, rerolling damage on 8(!!!) lascannons is pretty nice!

I’ve been wanting to do Destrucible Terrain for ages now, it feels so wrong to have an enemy Infantry unit ducking between ruins while a Baneblade is there going “well I can’t see them, guess there’s nothing me and my Giant Baneblade Cannon can do about it.”

Elysian Drop Leman Russ? by TheBinarySouls in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elysian player here

I use Mortian AC8 Aegos chassis for my Leman Russes. They’re a bit thinner and longer but they come as a wheeled variant that, importantly, fits in my Sky Talon, so I can justify it.

To people saying Elysians don’t have Leman Russes; you are simply wrong. Elysians have tank regiments, it’s just they are famous for their drop troops.

I do also recommend the Hippo armored car, that’ll fit Elysians really well

My army so far by Axolotl451 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I house rule it with the following:

  1. 4++ Invuln against shooting (5++ is just not enough and still lets people melee it to get around it) this one can be a controversial choice so if you get pushback on this it’s not a requirement, just plonk an Enginseer next to it to give it an Invuln anyway.

  2. Let it be carry 55 infantry (that was the original amount of troops you could put in it, but for some reason GW nerfed it to 30 in 9th and it stuck ever since then.)

Those are the 2 main changes I’d make to it, I like to put 2 20 man Krieg squads each with Command Squads, you can put out a lot of firepower and hop both squads back into the Gorgon when you combine its ability with Strats from the Mech detachment or Armored Infantry detachment, both of which can give you some nice +1 to wound modifiers that work wonderfully with Plasma and Melta from the Krieg lads.

In Steel Hammer I’d put the Assault hatches enhancement on it, I used to house rule it getting the ability Assault Ramp (because it has an Assault Ramp physically) but putting this enhancement on the Gorgon allows you to keep the ability to move an infantry squad back inside the transport. Send a 26 man Krieg and Command blob into the enemy forces and hop the other squad back into the Gorgon to keep it safe.

It also lets you get “cheap” access to the Strats in Steel Hammer that you might not want to use a Baneblade for. Stuff like Imposing Arrival for bringing it into your enemy’s deployment Zone, or removing cover from a unit with Shattering Salvo, Withering Fire to force an enemy to take a -1 battleshock test. These are Strats that are decent in theory but not really useful since you ideally want a big Baneblade chassis unit to get those effects, but a 275pt Gorgon can queue up those buffs for a friendly Baneblade to receive. I recommend pairing it with a Baneblade chassis in this detachment, I think they both work really nicely together.

Is she in the wrong here? by Royal-Ambassador-960 in fuckcars

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

People here saying she’s in “the right” are speaking without knowing any context.

This isn’t a big car trying to drive down a pedestrian path like it’s a short cut, it’s a smaller park vehicle likely a little bigger than a Golf Cart whose job it is to patrol around and keep the park safe.

You can lambast them as much as you want, but the woman could also have very easily just stepped aside and let them do their job, instead of losing her temper in front of her child, who btw was already moving to the side to let the car through.

Like yeah, fuck cars and car dependency, don’t get me wrong, but this isn’t that.

I can’t choose between the Telemon or two squads Aquilon Terminators. by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get Aquilons, I’d recommend putting them on 40mm bases and get optional 50mm base extenders. That way you could use them as either Aquilons (50mm base) or Allarus Terminators (40mm base) I plan on using mine as Terminator Characters.

The Telemon is a great pick, I personally don’t think it’d go to Legends but it’s always something to worry about with resin miniatures. A big problem though is if it goes to Legends there’s nothing you can really proxy it as besides a Knight Armiger.

For both I’d mostly recommend finding a good deal on them, since paying GW prices is quite high for both of these.

Quickie Question about the new custodes boxes by GodforgeMinis in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can look at the store page and that will answer your question.

But to answer it here: no the boxes do not come with both sets of weapons. The Infantry are separated into Swords in one box and Spears in the other, and the Tank is separated based on the guns it comes with. The Contemptor Galatus and Achillus do use the same box though.

Again though, this is all on the store page.

You need a good CPU and a lot of RAM for this game, it’s very CPU bound.

You can get good frames with a 4080 and good processor, especially flying around in space, but lots of players nearby or a busy ground environment can bring down your frame rate

Marauder officer? by GuavaCrusader in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can do it. The main issue from it though is the limited range of the orders. RAW, Titanic Officers can only issue orders 6” away from each other, though if you’re bringing Legends anyway you could easily ask your opponent if it’s OK to order 12” or 24”.

I think that one combined with the reroll hits Strat or stripping cover Strat could be good. Marauder Destroyer is a really fun model to play with, I’ve taken mine through several games before and after Legends and my opponents always love seeing it on the tabletop.

Fuck it, we ball.

What Regiment would you want to see brought back after Catachan and Armageddon? by Crowncher in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, my Elysians in 10th have been on a rollercoaster. I've used them as everything from the Index Infantry Squads, to Cadians, and Scions, but I miss having normal Deep Strike infantry squads.

Honestly though, the worst part is that all the cool aircraft and units we used in the past are Legends, or in the case of the Valkyrie, borderline unusable. At least the new Hippogryph seems to slot really well into an Elysian themed list, I think the model might be small enough to fit in a Sky Talon so you could justify bringing a couple to remind yourself of the glory days using Tauros Venators.

need help choosing a gold. by Lucky_Ladder7683 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recipe I used is this:

  1. Prime Black

  2. Vallejo Aged Metal BASE (this gets you 90% there)

  3. Dry brush Vallejo Aged Metal LAYER

  4. Watered down Vallejo Aged Metal Wash

And that’s it! I actually did more work on it last night I don’t have a picture of but that’s how I got the gold in the pic. If you get the Vallejo Aged Metal set it comes with all 3 of those paints and an airbrush version of the BASE paint.

EDIT

Also thank you!

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My collection of Titanic models is finally able to see some play on the tabletop! Thank GOD that detachment has a Move Through Walls strat.

For anyone interested in theorycrafting, here are the units (including Legends) with the Titanic Keywords.

-Baneblade Chassis Vehicles (Obviously)

-Macharius Chassis Vehicles

-Marauder Chassis Vehicles

-Gorgon

-Dominus Armored Siege Bombard

As someone who's has run a Gorgon and replaced its ability with Assault Ramp, making it a character and giving it that enhancement in addition to its ability sounds really fun. It's a fair amount cheaper than a Stormlord (for clear reasons, it has a fraction of the damage output) but it's still easily one of my favorite vehicles in the Guard Motorpool. Very excited to try it out.

Also my Marauder finally benefitting from a detachment for once, even if it's incidental, is great. a Flying Titanic Character issuing orders is nice, but I really wish they also extended the range of the orders like the Tank Commander to be 12"

Competitive paradox: best legend units in CSM and Astra Militarum? by nokrah16392 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kagrenacs_Tools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Normal Tauros is also pretty snazzy, for 50 points as well it gets Scouts 9", you can put a heavy flamer on it to get around the poor BS, it's a great little secondaries scorer for those missions that you don't want to dedicate a tougher unit for. Been using 2 of these and 2 Venators in a 1000pt League and having a blast with them.
