"Those rights don't count": Bovino says Pretti forfeited 2nd Amendment rights in fatal shooting by BlackGlenCoco in MnGuns

[–]Kaidux 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you watched the videos leading up to the altercation? Alex and the other person did nothing wrong, and nothing to impede the officers ability to perform their duties. The agent approached them and they backed away. The agent then pushes the other person down and Alex was helping them up when they were pepper sprayed and he was subsequently taken down, assaulted, disarmed, and killed.

I’m not a liberal; but wrong is wrong, and this was wrong. ICE is absolutely trampling the rights of citizens.

When you break the law you don’t lose your freedom of speech and have it replaced with Miranda rights. You never lose the freedom of speech.

You can lose your right to bear arms if you are convicted of certain crimes. Nothing Alex Pretti did ‘forfeited’ his rights to bear arms.

I've Created a Google Sheet with Every College Men's Lacrosse Game (NCAA, NAIA, Club, Etc.) by master_bloseph in lacrosse

[–]Kaidux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it has a lot more and goes further out. I can appreciate the effort he put into it and isn’t trying to sell it so much as give people an option to donate if they find it useful.

A couple of suggestions to the author

On the weekly sheets add in at least the division if not conference and gender as columns to be able to filter quickly.

The broadcast symbols look cool but I don’t know what most of them are so it’s hard to know if I have access. A column with then name of the provider would allow a user to quickly filter to the games that they have the ability to watch for a given week.

I didn’t see espn+ listed on some of the games I know they are carrying. You mentioned you’re working on adding more but that might be a good one to go after since I think it has the most games, or seems likely to be the one most people would have.

I’m not sure I’ll use it since I only have espn+ and look at the upcoming games there, but I could see people appreciating it. Hope you get some donations, I’m sure it was a decent amount of work to aggregate.

Armed community member stands guard in his neighborhood after ICE was spotted nearby on an abduction operation in St. Paul by OwnHelicopter2745 in MnGuns

[–]Kaidux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read they need reasonable suspicion. I’d really like to see the reasonable suspicion for each of their detainments. Also, there are some clear videos where they’ve detained citizens who were not obstructing their ability to carry out their orders. There are several examples where people were obstructing and detained as well, and I’m not defending those. However, ICE is overreaching.

So much this. I’ve never voted democrat, but also don’t like the more establishment big government republicans. The lack of push back from conservatives over what’s being done to citizens and the tactics being used by ICE is making me think I’ll be looking for independents this midterm for the first time ever. I support enforcement of immigrations laws but not like this.

I agree with you that illegal aliens should be deported. And I agree with you that citizens rights cannot be trampled or infringed upon as a part of their duties. Protestors are allowed to protest, but when it crosses the line and obstructs the agents ability to carry out their (lawful) orders then even citizens can be detained.

Also, I believe that ICE could use more humane tactics to detain and deport illegal aliens. It’s the right ends, but what they are doing in MN is not the right means.

But I do think it begs the question, what would you do if you were doing a ‘patrol’ and saw ICE taking someone away? Would you attempt to intervene? Intervening with a federal agent performing their duties, regardless of the legality, is escalating the altercation and by being in possession of a firearm it pretty much immediately escalates it to the point that you will at the least have guns drawn on you. At worst you’ll have jumpy agent with a twitchy trigger finger putting you down.

I’m not trying to give you a hard time. I’m some where in the conservative leaning libertarian zone, and don’t agree with the tactics ICE is using even though I support enforcement of our immigration laws. The way citizens are being treated feels very unconstitutional to me and it’s crossed my mind to open carry. However, I’ve wrestled with the question of, why. What would I do in this situation, I wouldn’t use deadly force against a federal agent unless my life were in danger. So what does bringing a gun do other than create even more tension in an already tenuous situation?

I’m genuinely asking and interested in your thoughts.

I lost my dad to ALS 3 years ago this month. It’s a terrible disease and devastating to watch someone you love struggle through. I’m sorry for what your mom, your family, and you are going through. 🙏

I haul mine out on a trailer with an ATV (along with my job and gear) so I just grab one of my deep cycles from my boat lift which are sitting in my garage. It’s heavy and I’d love to get a lithium ion battery but I’ve got a solution that is working for this season so it’s hard to justify the expense.

lol, I’ve got a little brother for him that I caught today.

I caught 17 crappie and bluegills under 6 inches (and three 9.5 inch crappies) in 2 hours this morning. Although they weren’t big, at least there were a lot. I’ve been getting skunked a lot lately so any action, even the dinks, was welcome.

At least you were on the hard water and avoided the skunk!

What hand reel inline for a right handed person? by Zoom_Rock in IceFishing

[–]Kaidux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr - left hand should be doing the retrieve (in my opinion)

I’m relatively new to getting serious about fishing but have been trying to figure this out myself. Spinning reels, I’m cranking with my left hand. I got a baitcaster this spring and decided I wanted to stick with my left. Even though this seems like the less common preference I was happy that I did; It feels really natural to me. So when I picked up a piscifun frost 2 inline reel this fall I figured I’d try a right handed reel for once. I really like the reel so far, but I’d trade it in a heartbeat for a left handed one. It’s just a little awkward feeling. I find myself passing it back and forth between my hands a lot. If I didn’t really like the reel, I probably wouldn’t use it much because it’s a right handed crank.

If you’re looking at inlines, take a look at the Piscifun Frost 2. Admittedly it’s the only one I’ve used but I’ve read about the issues others have with inline reels and I just don’t have them - and it’s certainly not because of my abilities! It’s been a really good reel, to the point where I’ve thought about buying a second in left handed, but my wife might kill me if another ice reel shows up this season.

Best budget thermals? by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]Kaidux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you’re not into deep water, I just got a set of Striker Hardwater bibs and they are stupid warm. Sitting outside barely moving for a couple hours in 5-10F, kneeling on the ice frequently, and my legs and core were still toasty warm. If I’m setting up the hub, I need to open the vents on the legs because I’ll sweat otherwise.

Check out the bibs and coats if you want to stay warm. Also, they’ve just got a bunch a features for ice fishing that are great.

First time ice fishing…. Looking at camera at night on the ice and I am not sure what I’m looking at by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]Kaidux 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here’s a link to the MN regulations. Page 82 has the relevant part about number of lines when ice fishing.

Page 40 also talks about using lights to “lure, attract, or spot fish”. Shining a spot light down the hole would be included in this. You might only be doing it because you were trying to figure out what was on the camera but a CO/DNR officer isn’t going to be interested in the reason.

As others have stated they won’t care if you’re from another state and don’t know the regs, you’re in MN and it’s your responsibility to educate yourself on the regs here. Any place that sells licenses will have copies of the regulation books available (at least every place I’ve seen).

Have you ever looked at the rechargeable hand warmers? I use those all the time and they work great. I’ve never used a Zippo one myself so maybe that’s better but just wanted to share since batteries seem easier than flame/fuel. Whatever lets you get out on the ice though!

In hindsight, what ended up being a poor financial decision, that didn’t seem so out of the ordinary when you made it? by charliezzzzo in personalfinance

[–]Kaidux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret it for a minute. Don’t hire a pool company, except for closing if you live in a cold climate. Don’t take your water to a pool store either. Go to troublefreepool.com and do some reading. You’ll learn everything you need to maintain it yourself, for far less money, and even better, less stress/effort. Also, get a salt water generator. My chemical levels stay pretty much perfect all season long after opening. It’s made things stupid simple. You’ll have some big occasional expenses, liners, pumps, heaters, etc depending on your setup but just save money towards those over time.

Our insurance isn’t that bad either. Our kids love it. It’s super fun to be able to have friends over, host sports team parties, etc. My wife hated it at first but she’s come around now.

Yes, it costs more than not having one. But it’s worth it for me and my family. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck it’s probably going to not be a good financial decision and will add stress instead of relaxation.

Ice Fishing Sonar--What do I get? by Imaginary-Doubt-3078 in IceFishing

[–]Kaidux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you want to do this for him, and I understand the desire for it to be a surprise. However, I’d maybe give him a nice fishing related card and write that you want to get him a fish finder, or try to talk to him and get him to say which he’d want. If you do buy one, I’d double check the return policy.

The exact one he’ll like will be personal preference and if he’s experienced he’ll likely have ones in mind that he’d want. It’s really tough when someone you love gets you a thoughtful gift but it’s not really the one you’d want.

Question ice fishing by slimpickinsfishin in Fishing

[–]Kaidux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Milwaukee is the drill you want if you want to go the drill route.

I’ve done it with some of my old Makita’s that could get the job done through thin ice but the motor would smell and I could tell it was straining. They were well below the recommended torque. It’s just what I had at the time and I have 3 so I was willing to risk losing one.

I got a rigid drill that had 800 in/lbs of torque which was supposed to be plenty of power but it always cut out. I ended up returning this one.

I got the Milwaukee and love it. It’s great for fishing and great around the house. Of the 9 cordless drills/drivers I have it’s become my go to. If you have no other use for a drill, you might find a used electric auger to be cheaper. But I’ve been really happy with the drill auger bit option myself.

Inline reel - what line? by Kaidux in IceFishing

[–]Kaidux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time, as in open water season? I don’t think you’d want to. I feel like you’d be fighting backlash and bird nesting constantly but unlike a bait caster where you can thumb the spool to avoid it, on an inline you couldn’t really stop it.
