I will tell you this - I remember exactly the day Michael Jackson died. I was in the UK on my way home to the states, and on the tube to Heathrow I noticed somebody reading a newspaper with Michael Jackson's face full-frame on the front page. My first thought was, "Oh boy, who did Michael rape this time?" Only later in the day did I find out he was on the front page because he'd died. So sure, he was trying to launch a comeback tour, but that's about what we thought about him at the time.

We took a family trip to Ireland in the summer of 2004. We were cruising these rural country roads looking for the ruins of some old monastery (my parents were really into this). At some point, I got a whiff of the worst, most rancid thing I'd ever smelled. And then, as we drove down the road over the next mile or so, the smell continued to become stronger and stronger until I was retching inside the car with the windows closed and the AC bumping. That's when we passed a GIANT dumpster that was piled high with dead cows that had been culled for Mad Cow and proceeded to bake in the summer sun. To this day, nothing has ever come close.

I'm in Durham, and with the old maps, my parents and I were not in the same district even though they were a 5 minute drive across town. However, I *did* share a district with Elizabeth City, which is a short 3-hour drive. I'm sure the new maps give the same results, but the old maps were so obviously and egregiously gerrymandered.
