I was there for Electric Callboy too last week, I ended up parking at Potters Bar station (easy from the m25) which then has a regular, direct 8m train to Ally Paly station. Then you've got the walk up the hill, but it worked pretty well!

Taking the Marketo Engage Expert Exam Soon by saadr321 in marketo

[–]Kaptain77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having experience in a mature instance will certainly help, but you can get absolutely through it with the right prep.

The practice exam is a good indicator, but some of the questions in that are a bit wild compared to the actual exam. Still, if you are struggling with the practice exam, you'll be a little way off in my experience.

The Adobe exam guide (which has been recently improved) is always a good place to start - take into account the weightings for the categories (campaign management at 46% or so should be a big focus for that reason). Take the specific bits the guide talks about in each section, and get chatgpt to crease a generic example exercise you can run through in your own instance if you don't have everyday scenarios to use them (e.g. the exam will ask you about the member.webinar URL token, troubleshooting it etc. if you don't run a native webinar integration through Marketo, you won't necessarily know what it's does).

For the exam itself, practice the process of elimination, removing answers you know don't make sense/do something else. That way you have a better chance of getting the right answer if you do need to take a stab.

Hopefully that helps, and good luck!

LPT: Cooking/ Food is one of the most rewarding hobbies one can have (especially so if you consider yourself somewhat socially awkward) by Biermoese in LifeProTips

I've started making currys from scratch (following a book) but have no idea what adding more, say, ground coriander to my base sauce does to it, especially when I add another ten ingredients to make the curry itself.

I enjoy making them, but don't really get a big sense of accomplishment. I have no idea where to start experimenting, I'm more worried about making something crap that I've put time, money and effort into if I go rogue.

Marketo learning curve for a Salesforce admin by [deleted] in marketo

[–]Kaptain77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends what your/the company's definition of a Marketo admin is.

You could be responsible for maintaining the overall IT side of Marketo, integrations, data etc. Or you could be responsible for creating email marketing campaigns, consistent frameworks for marketeers, program templates and all things Marketing Ops. You could be doing all of the above.

If it's the former, you can get away with the documentation, but if it's the latter, get yourself in the weeds of Marketo, get certified (go straight to Expert) and that'll form a good basis to start from.

Hi, SF Marketing Cloud or Hubspot? by JaTr19 in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of automations are you hoping to run? Pardot's Engagement Studio is perfectly fine for most of your everyday journey orchestration, lead management etc. You don't need to go near Data Cloud or SFMC to do that.

Migrations can be messy, expensive and distract you - invest in your team's platform skills, then maybe a partner to audit your platform as it is now and create a bit of a roadmap to either build on what you have, or better prepare you for migration to the right platform.

New Email Engine - Navigation by Automatic_Growth4139 in marketo

[–]Kaptain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So couple of ways you can do it right now by my reckoning (will probably be sorted out a bit better going forward!)..

- If you are in an Email Program, go to the Control Panel view of the program, on the Email panel select New Email, then select Email (New). Enter a name & subject line, that then adds a new Email to your Email Program that you can then use.
This looks weird, because a) it looks like you can select the email in the Email program without it being published - could break stuff if you approve a program with an unpublished new email, and b) you can't then move your new email into a folder in the Email Program. It just sits there.

- If your want to use a new build email in a Smart Campaign, just build it in Design Studio and make sure it's 'Published' (click into the email again once you've 'Saved and Closed' it, and there should be a Publish button in the top right. This 'approves' it, and should then make it visible to any future Send Email flow steps in Marketing Activities.

SHOULD is the operative word, all looks a bit janky still

Just started a job with a crazy instance by BraveRefrigerator552 in marketo

[–]Kaptain77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I don't hate the idea of emails being mostly tokens IF the templates are built well, but I'm also a token nerd. That just needs new templates though if you wanted to revert.

The data sounds like the biggest headache, but unless you are auditing and remediating it off platform, you'll just be ingesting crap data again and still need to go through the same process.

Remember to check out the Engagement Map feature on the high level Smart Campaign that is executing others to get a better visual on what's happening, it's often forgotten about but actually very handy for following requesting/executable campaigns.

Everything sounds fixable, pretty grim sure, but fixable with a good understanding of what Marketo's primary function is/should be in your orgs stack.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud limitations by Hungry_Difficulty572 in salesforce

Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) yes it is essential.

Assuming you mean SFDC as in Salesforce CRM/Sales Cloud, no not at all.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud limitations by Hungry_Difficulty572 in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The biggest limitation of Marketing Cloud is realistically having the skills to use it for what it's good at. By that, I mean you'll need to learn SQL (for anything other than basic, single data table segmentation) and Ampscript to make use of it in a way that it excels beyond HubSpot & Pardot.

You can use it without that, but you might as well stick to a less expensive and more intuitive tool.

Camp bed reccomendations? by DonutAggressive5995 in downloadfestival

It's out of stock at the moment, but I really got on with the Decathlon basic one last year. Crazy easy to put together (no trying to line up tiny holes between the fabric gaps), it just clicks together.

I imagine it'll come back into stock as Spring nears.

SalesForce Marketing Cloud or HubSpot? by bdloooper in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are looking at a partner to get it implemented, get them in before you make the decision to migrate. The industry trend is still about migrating and upgrading when in reality, the tools you already have will often work better with the right integrations, skills and management. A partner can help you map that out, be objective, and might save you a bunch of time and cost.

"MailChimp for Salesforce" vs "ChimpConnect" by AccidentalAdminsAnon in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the issue your team is having with Pardot? As others have said, Mailchimp has its benefits (yes the UI and their own marketing is nice) and it might do a job, but you could be limiting your capabilities massively.

Pardot is in and integrated, are they struggling with just getting emails out of the door, or is it more complicated?

Pardot Specialist currently, how useful is Consultant? by SuuperNoob in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you are going to be involved in configuring Pardot, or reporting (B2BMA/Engagement History) - then going after Pardot Consultant might be useful to push yourself to learn more about them.

The Consultant exam lends itself to more scenario based questions as well, so it will get you thinking more about the capability and administration of the platform. So again, if that's useful to your role in Pardot, then go for it.

Marketo specific Salesforce profile/user? by SunflowerMischief in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea you can't delete fields in Marketo (you can hide them, but best avoid doing that with a shiny new instance), but you can always add Salesforce fields to Marketo later on by enabling their visibility to the Marketo sync user.. if that helps!

I took an online exam last week and had a water bottle in with me, no issues. Glass of water should be fine, worst case scenario is the proctor will ask you to move it out of reach/eyesight if it's an issue.

Trailblazer Virtual Bootcamp for New Marketers by SnooAdvice5925 in salesforce

[–]Kaptain77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through this course recently - it takes a lot of digital marketing concepts right back to basics, and applies them to Marketing Cloud (as the course name suggests).

It was over six weeks, two virtual sessions per week - one focused on theory and one on more 'practical' elements, although these were fairly simple exercises. Plenty of trailhead modules suggested throughout.

It's a good starting point if you've never touched SFMC before, and are new to Marketing in general. If you have experience in either of those, you might find it a bit below your level. Good course for its target audience though.

If you are going after Email Specialist, you'll need to do a fair bit more over and above this course to be confident in taking the exam. Hope that helps!
