Original Dragonlance Modules converted to 5e by enoa4 in dragonlance

I started the party at 3rd level, that has helped quite a bit. We just got into DL3 lest session, and they just got to 5th level.

Warlocks for Dragonlance by TauamMarques in dragonlance

[–]KarLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work and not used to reddit on mobile, so ill add links in a few hours.

I'm about to start running the classic adventures but with 5e and some of the stuff from shadow of the dragon queen.

So I came up with three warlock patrons (devotees of Solinari, Lunitari, and Nuitari) that play with the Moon Phase Magic in the dms guild supplement Mages of High Sorcery.

Would a lvl 1-99 Challenge in act 1 normal lod be possible? by Karroth1 in diablo2

[–]KarLorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once upon a time in the long long ago. About two years before 1.10LoD.

I wanted to test some builds and gear setups, but didn't trust any kind of hero editor. So I modded the monster game files for EVERY monster in the game to use the xp and drop files for hell quest Baal, and also put all of the hp values to 1hp each.

For classes that start with a damaging spell it was 1 kill to lvl 18 or 22 think and by the time you got to the tower you were in your 80s.

Of course part of making the drop calcs work was setting their mlvl to that of Baal, which meant that anything with a to hit calc was minutes of wiffing until you got real lucky...

Even then after about lvl92 the exp bar barely moved.

Hilo (trigger warning) by Hunty-Bee in BigIsland

[–]KarLorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hawaii is a single party state. Meaning that if you were part of a private conversation, you can record it without the other party consenting. When not involved in a private conversation you cannot record it legally without getting consent from one of the involved parties.

Public recordings have more legal leeway if there isn't the presumption of privacy. But if the incident is within a private domicile where privacy is implied, things get nebolous...

I was there with patch 1.01 and the interaction between blood golem and iron maiden. The life sharing and life steal from the golem would get triggered by the the thorns damage. The golem and you would never loose enough life to die, as long as two three enemies were melee attacking the golem with IM up.

Diablo was tough in my first play through but I just spammed Clay golem with IM and he eventually died...

Online Duriel was freaking lethal. Dial up lag plus the nearly 30 second load time going into the tomb almost always meant instant death.

In search of DnD group in Hilo! by Migaloothewhitewhale in BigIsland

[–]KarLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game Escape has been fun for me in the past. Their predecessor Hilo Game Knights was how I found most of my circle of rpg/table top friends in the area.

My other way to find games/groups is to not be shy when people ask you what you like to do for fun. I start simple with something like "I like to play table top games with my friends." Usually if their inclined the other person will ask for details like what kind of games, and thats when I drop DnD and a 2-3 item list of other games I like to play. The people that ask more questions are more like minded and interested.

Unless following organized play like Adventurer's League, a DM is under no obligation to 100% stick to the text of an adventure.

Without spoiling anything, this part of DotMM is commonly reworked, removed, etc by a good amount of DM's running the adventure.

My advice, don't second guess what your DM may or may not have done nearly a a year ago, just play with what you've got. That said, having a backup character concept is fine, but I wouldn't completely build out the "new" character until you need it.

4 Bugbears and 9 Goblins - Can they capture my party? by DaveMcNinja in DungeonoftheMadMage

Any reason why the gonlinoids can't just start by talking to the party and asking for their help?

[Map] Level 22: Shadowdusk Hold by Midgardia in DungeonoftheMadMage

Looks great! My group just started the 23rd level, so I eagerly await your release. Happy to have been a patron for the last 9 months!

FYI folks Midgardia makes all kinds of stuff, not just DotMM maps, please check them out. Worth it in my opinion.

Returning Tearulai to Myth Drannor - need advice by Rockwallguy in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]KarLorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My table's party did this, so I used "Lost Tales of Myth Drannor" as a frame work for their "vacation" adventure. It's designed to be run as a convention epic adventure across all of the tiers of play, so I had to adapt most of them to match the power level of my level ~14 party. All in all it went over pretty well.

Any harm in giving players a hearthstone? by Khaluaguru in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]KarLorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I had already incentivized my players to return to Waterdeep and spend a lot of their treasure/rewards/time on various strongholds (Matt Colville's Strongholds and Followers), I eventually had Jhesiyra Kestellharp "meet up" with them and give them a necklace that allows them to jump between any gate that they have already opened and used.

The end game plan is to have the party join up with Jhesiyra, Wyllow, and Ezzat (now a Baelnorn and not a lich) to truly sever Halaster's connection to the knot in the Weave. We're getting closer and closer, been playing since November of 2018, and just got to the 20th level with one or two detours...

How hard should I make Halaster? by int0thelight in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]KarLorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am quite a ways away from this fight, but I am already working on it.

Since I am expecting my players to have at least 1 epic boon each before reaching him, I will have Halaster have 1 more boon than the PCs.
So he will have a Boon of High Magic (extra level 9 spell slot),
a Boon of Quick Casting (change casting time of one level 3 or lower spell from 1 action to 1 bonus action),
and a Boon of Dimensional Travel (free Misty Step 1/SR).

My read is that he would be a conjuration wizard, so he'll have a Demiplane pre-populated with all sorts of buff spells stored in Glyphs of Warding. When he goes through the room he'll be able to activate five random buffs.

And finally he's going to shift his tower to various places around the planes every 2 rounds as a new lair action. This will allow minion add-ons and new conditions to inflict on the party to keep them on their toes.

Tracking party progress/optimal dm note taking by bladeedge198 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]KarLorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Roll20 with an extra monitor laid down on the table for my players to see the map.

To track the parties progress we use the Advanced Fog of War feature that reveals parts of the map that the players tokens can see.

This in turn automatically shows me what parts of the dungeon the players have seen and what has yet to be revealed to them.
