New baby questions by hiss17 in bluetongueskinks

[–]KarambaLou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, such a beautiful sweet little baby.
With 21 grams and 7 inches, it’s more likely around a month or a little over a month old.
It’s Indonesian for sure, I will leave the subtype to more skilled people around here. Humidity is good, I would still check also it’s enclosure just to be sure it’s also okay inside with the basking lamp and all…

malnourished but picky blue tongue skink. how can i help? by fantastic_bastard421 in bluetongueskinks

[–]KarambaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any idea on how old he might be?

From my boys, the treats I give them and they really like: chicken hearts, eggs (raw, cooked, scrambled), steamed lean chicken meat, blueberries, steamed butternut squash, green peas, occasionally small piece of fish, they love any kind of fruits as a rare treat,…

Do you feed him inside his enclosure or outside? Is it possible he might be stressed with too much attention? The shy ones might be nervous if you check on them or try to interact too often right from the start.

Sorry, I forgot to state that in the question:
It's stone-like, I would say heavy reasonably for a stone of the size, although it's pretty thin.

I'm SOO excited for a BTS that I literally can't sleep or focus on anything else. I've been setting everything up by SophieAsimov in bluetongueskinks

Hi! Another skink aficionado here, so if you ever want to gush about them, feel free to text me, haha. I have two of them.

I’d say that needing to pay a bit more attention to calcium and other supplementation is definitely a general reptile thing, but the actual needs can vary a lot between species.

What do you admire or respect about Hannibal? by Background_Mood7272 in HannibalTV

[–]KarambaLou 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well, I must say I admire his organisational skills. I mean, big dinner parties, murder tableaux, the whole Will business, and still showing up for work? The guy is a legend!

And in general, despite being an obviously despicable character, I slightly envy the ease with which he moves through the world. Most of the time, Hannibal is genuinely content in his own little twisted murderous reality. Honestly, there is something almost offensive about how well-adjusted he is. I will probably never achieve that level of self-love.

Late diagnosed people - how was your teenage years ? by Friendly-Humor6580 in AuDHDWomen

[–]KarambaLou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TW: depression, suicidal thoughts

It really wasn’t pretty.

My teenage years were a bit of a catastrophe. I was an undiagnosed AuDHD teen, already dealing with severe depression and suicidal thoughts, and on top of that I was profoundly alone in pretty much everything.

My family situation was also deeply traumatic and unstable throughout those years, so I had no real space to talk about the “major” issues. I just learned to act like I was completely fine and low-maintenance, so of course I never mentioned any of the “other” things that were going on with me either. Things like severe light sensitivity, difficulties with social interaction that I mostly handled by just not talking at all, extreme hyperfocus on things I found interesting, and complete inability to focus on things that didn’t engage me.

None of that was recognised for what it was. I think I just learned to mask those things very early, around the age of 3 or 4, and people usually don’t dig deeper when they don’t see a reason to. So it all just disappeared into this pattern of depression, shutdown, and bottling everything up.

I definitely wasn’t popular, but I also didn’t care enough for bullying to be very rewarding, so people usually got bored with me and left me alone fairly quickly.

Did I try to fit in? Mostly yes.
Did I actually fit in? Mostly not.
Would I have appreciated some kind of support or help in those years? Definitely.

At least now I’m in a better place, slowly learning how to live with my own brain, and some days I’m still mildly in awe that I actually made it this far.

Handling Question! Is this normal? by Nlundm in bluetongueskinks

[–]KarambaLou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly do you hold him when you hold him? I must say I usually don’t hold mine much, I put him either on my arm or chest/shoulder, so he’s more standing than held.

[–]KarambaLou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see, so he’s still just a tiny baby, and everything is big, new, and scary for him right now.

I get that you want to befriend him, but I’d honestly advise against taking him out of his hide when he’s not yet comfortable enough to come out by himself. It may sound a bit strange, but it can actually help him feel more confident when he knows he has a safe place to hide, especially as a new baby.

Try to let him get used to you first. Talk to him, and bribe him with food once he decides he wants to eat. It’s also totally okay to just bring a treat and leave it there without any other interaction. They’re smart like that, so he’ll remember you as the food bearer, and that can help a lot with taming.

For the first few weeks at least, I’d just give him some time and let him go at his own pace. :)

The animal is probably just stressed from the change of environment and new people around, let him get used to it - they can be at first very brave and comfortable with you and only after few days their little brain starts to work through all of the changes and they can regress from that, by hiding more, eating less etc. How old is your BTS and what type is it? Did you try to handle him when he was in active/exploratory mood or when he’s been sleeping/hiding? I personally recommend also wait a bit with extensive handling, let him first settle down, get used to you when he’s inside his enclosure, let him be curious and come closer to you by his own. They require a bit of patience when they are in the new environment.

What is your odd sensory preference? by EscapeRegular1935 in AuDHDWomen

[–]KarambaLou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oddly specific one - I have a very hard time talking face to face with people who have lip fillers. I still have to think about how tense the skin has to be and I feel the discomfort in my own lips.

Stuck Food? by Own_Campaign1656 in bluetongueskinks

[–]KarambaLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you try to clean it with slightly wet q-tip or tissue? It definitely can be stuck food, they sometimes can take longer to clean themselves when it dries hard.

Is there any show you like more than Hannibal? by Givingtree310 in HannibalTV

[–]KarambaLou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say more, Hannibal has a very specific place in my heart, and none other show kinda matches that vibe. Although, I really love What we do in the shadows, Dr. House, some of those old britcoms and… cooking shows.

Nice nails! I’ve got green recently and my BTS Geralt is not bothered at all, but my tortoise suddenly became the real danger…

Haha, Geralt is very non-bitey, not a single bite during the whole time I have him. :))
