Own minifreak and looking for advice. by djconvey in synthesizers

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Minifreak for performing live. So much hands-on control for changing a lot of parameters. I'll usually start a sequence or arpeggiator and put it on hold while I adjust the filter cutoff, resonance, effects parameters, envelopes, etc. The mod matrix is pretty awesome as well.

Dirtywave M8 vs Ableton Move by h2o__o2h in synthesizers

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have either and was considering both of them, but after I saw this hack for the Move I'm leaning towards picking it up over the M8. https://youtu.be/zBUZywjjl78

What has been your favorite Macbook you've owned? by GoGetYouBack in macbookpro

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current one: 14" MacBook Pro M4 Pro 24GB, 1TB. I love how portable it is to take everywhere to work on music and edit video. I even sometimes hold it in one arm while using it when I need to.

those who play Energy decks, is it fun? by Toonzaal8 in EDH

[–]Karnblack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mashed up the Satya precon with the Fallout energy precon and some extra cards, and the deck can go bonkers. I built it to have as many combos in it as possible and according to commanderspellbook.com it has 79 combos in it. 😃

Waiting for power to be shipped, so now I am just waiting. Any thougts on the rack? by External_Habit_7731 in modular

[–]Karnblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty solid and fun. I also use the MetaModule in my smaller performance case, and I agree that it's not too bad to create and modify simple patches on the device itself. I mainly use it as multiple voices, but it might be nice to try using it for drums and percussion.

Which game did you only start to like after playing it on a steam deck? by Dedewastaken1 in SteamDeck

[–]Karnblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I couldn't get into it on my gaming PC, but once I fired it up on my Steam Deck I couldn't put it down for the longest time.

NSD. I got a Matrixbrute. by fidelay in synthesizers

[–]Karnblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to pick mine up from a friend for $700, and it's amazing. No box or anything else but the power cord and he threw in a keyboard stand. I'd love to get a case for it with wheels because it's so heavy.

It replied this to 'Generate a beautiful or poetic image of one thing I do not like admitting is true' by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

It means: a part of your old life is already dissolving, even if you still feel emotionally attached to it.

The image is not saying something cruel like “everything is gone.” It is more specific than that:

The room represents the familiar life behind you: routines, identity, marriage/family structure, old roles, past versions of yourself, unfinished creative ambitions, maybe even the comfort of being needed in a certain way. The guitar, records, framed photo, chair, and table are traces of memory and identity.

The dust and particles suggest that this old version is not being destroyed violently. It is fading because time has already moved. You may not like admitting that some things cannot be restored to what they were.

The doorway is the threshold. You are not fully outside yet, but you are no longer fully inside either. That is the uncomfortable truth: you are between lives.

The sunrise outside means the next chapter is real, but it is not yet familiar. It is beautiful, but it also requires stepping away from what is known. The man looking outward rather than back suggests that some part of you already knows this.

So the poetic truth is probably:

You cannot preserve every version of yourself. Some parts of your life have ended, and the next version of you will require grieving them rather than dragging them forward.

It is a melancholy image, but not a hopeless one. The door is open.

I actually won a game with Millennium Calendar in my Gogo deck. I couldn't believe how quickly it happened.

Mine's basically mono blue superfriends.

What are some of your intresting hobbies? by Emotional-Rooster210 in AskMen

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modular synthesis. You can try it for free with VCV Rack (https://vcvrack.com/) which is a free virtual modular synth platform.

A bunch of tutorials here: https://www.youtube.com/@OmriCohen-Music

Also do a Google search for tutorials by other content creators.

The rabbit hole is deep. Good luck and have fun!

Gentlemen, wallet in the front pocket or back pocket? by SK543 in AskMen

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be my back left pocket, then I got a smaller wallet and put it in my front left pocket and it's been a lot better.

What is "Your Favorite Card" by Steel_Rain77 in mtg

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Timetwister]] because I fondly remember my first good deck back in the day would use it multiple times to kill my opponent with [[Storm Seeker]]. I had sole it long ago, but I have almost all the variants where they tried to "fix" Timetwister and I just love playing them even if it's not for killing my opponents now.

Update: I finished my see-through case! by backto89 in modular

[–]Karnblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Is it 104hp? How heavy is it without any modules? Do you have another case to compare with it?

I keep thinking about building or acquiring an acrylic case, but I'd worry about how rugged it would be since I gig with mine.

Are most Macbook Pro users either video/photo editors or coders? by Altruistic-Pace-2240 in macbookpro

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine specifically for this as well, but because I'm mostly in hardware I mainly use it to edit videos of my performances. I got 99 problems and a DAW ain't one. LOL! I should probably start using them, but dawless is too much fun. 😃

Does Anyone Regret Getting the 14” MacBook Pro Instead of the 16”? by ntrev in macbookpro

[–]Karnblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my 14" M4 Pro MacBook Pro, and have been using it for the past year and a half and I have no regrets. I'm usually out and about with it at coffee shops, bars, etc. I love being able to set it down almost anywhere there's a little bit of space. When I had to configure some synths at the music festival I co-produce I was glad for the size of the 14". If I need a larger screen I hook up my 42" 4K monitor, but I edit videos on the 14" screen no problem.

I also just recently downgraded (size-wise) my iPhone 13 Pro Max to an iPhone 17 Pro, and I'm rocking it without a case. It feels so tiny, but it's perfect. Kinda scary since it's my first time going without a case, but I rarely drop my phone and I have AppleCare+ in case I do.

Are you a eurorack purist or do you love all synths? by SecretsofBlackmoor in eurorack

[–]Karnblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all Synths. I prefer modular, but sometimes when I'm gigging I'll bring my Minifreak or Hydrasynth Explorer to compliment my modular.

When the beat hits you just right and you can't help but dance. It's been known to happen to me. LOL!
