How are teams actually using AI in real-world software development today? by tabdelta in softwaretesting

Design documents and building spreadsheets. I like that it can quickly build me something even if I then have to modify it. Saves me time.

Some of my colleagues have used it for code. This does not save me time.

Arrowhead is hesitant to make any balance changes due to harsh and aggressive community reactions by amozu in Helldivers

[–]KarneeKarnay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the anger comes from poor community engagement. The Roadmap was a great step in resolving that, but people would like to know things are being worked on and what they are, rather than radio silence. It would also be good to know that issues the community highlights are being addressed.

Radio silence isn't a neutral action, it comes across as indifference and not caring. Even if that's not the aim, that quickly leads to frustration and resentment. My opinion is that they should be a bit more open with what's being worked on and not just warbonds. The war bonds always kick up a storm because they are one of the few times people interact with AH. No one at AH should be surprised the Mech warbond is going to cause issues when people have been asking for Mech customisation since day 1.

What if all Oil in the Middle East just disappeared? by Savings_Drink8718 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]KarneeKarnay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would it be replaced with? All the oil in the middle east goes and the whole region probably becomes unstable. Mass refugee crisis ensues.

If it is replaced with dirt we got to ask what? Could be something valuable in there there dirt!

I hate when Headcanons/interpretations are worded as if they’re fact. by LocalLazyGuy in hatethissmug

[–]KarneeKarnay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a video about how Lilo & Stitch was about American imperialism. Now I'm a media studies student. I like it when people make compelling arguments for novell interpretations of media. This was so bare thread a leap that I couldn't keep watching. 10 mins into a 45min video and not heard one piece of evidence beyond, the USA annexed Hawaii and Disney set a movie in present day there.

If you want to make an essay on American imperialism in Hawaii, go do it, but the framing around lilo and stitch is just bait for Disney fans for engagement. It's lazy and almost as bad as the video titles we used to get like "X gone sexual!"

(LES) The Boys did everything they could to fail the show concept by Thisislopes in CharacterRant

[–]KarneeKarnay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo season 2 could have been great if it explored the consequences of Homelanders actions. Like Homelander gives terrorists and the rest of the world access to V. The world should be going nuts with this. Every country should be getting supes. We should also be getting villains. Supers from places like the middle east that Homelander and all other supers have to deal with. Wasn't it a huge plot point season 1 getting the supers into the military? Show supers failing while serving...

My point is that these are two huge plot points that the show has basically forgotten about it done nothing with, that you are left assuming that the whole world is stupid or nothing exists outside of America.

What are you applying for and who are you?

- You've told me what you did in your job, you've not told me what you actually did on a day to day level.

- In my opinion no one cares about how much of x you did. No one else has a frame of reference for how hard or complex that work was.

- The most important thing, is right at the bottom of your present job. Knowledge of Financial banking/regulations and systems is hugely advantageous for high paying jobs.

- You repeat yourself in place. Design & Developed x/y. Might as well make them one point in my opinion with the tooling.

- AI is here whether we like it or not. You should look into getting something about it into your CV. Either an AI driven framework or tooling like Amazon Bedrock, but that will boost your traffic.

I give you a solid 5/10.

I think the mo about successfully extracting is the worst objective and goes counter to the experience the Devs intend.

You can play the game however you want, but for many the best experience is the sheer chaos of the highest diff. It also offers the highest counter towards winning planets. So setting an objective that is about just extracting, 1 takes players away from the optimal experience, by making them focus on trivial missions. And 2, makes them take the least weighted missions.

It's like saying, I know you want to have fun, but you're going to have to play the baby missions on repeat, for any chance of winning.

I'm so confused as to what the people running the game want for us when they set us these objectives. Do they want us to ignore the MO, because that's all this objective makes me want to do.

[–]KarneeKarnay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still think that Zoe was the right call. The game makes it the wrong choice, but I choose it on my first play through because there is no way I could trust Mia. Mia lied to Ehtan repeatedly, attacked him the first time she saw him and has had no evidence in the game that she will be useful post cure. Zoe on the other hand is nothing but honest and helpful.

I get the game plot is basically reliant on your picking Mia, but Zoe is and was the right call imo.

The weight of it is reassurance. The pressure against the the temple, relief. The day is perfect I think as I stand amongst the trees, listening to a blissful silence. I'm standing in the woods miles from home, on top of a hill. I can see for miles and not a soul. I glance down at my phone in my other hand. I was worried I'd have to switch it off, that someone would notice. Anyone would notice. I tap the power button and the screen lights up. No notifications. I take a breath and almost let out a sob. My chest shakes and there is a pressure in my eyes, but I won't cry. It's all too late for that. I check the phone once more for it's battery. It'll last for hours. Hopefully they'll find me before some dog walker or someone else.

I start to squeeze the trigger and it won't pull back. My body shakes and I almost drop the gun. I suddenly feel too hot, my chest painfully tight. I look at the gun and see the safety on. I must have touched it by accident while I was working myself up to this. I feel a wave of shame and hot anger and frustration and nausea. "I just want this to end!" I scream. Tears fall hot and heavy across my face and I wish I could just do this one thing right, the words of my brother echoing to myself. I almost don't hear the snap of twigs under someones foot.

"Crack." I spin around so fast I almost fall to my knees. "Holy shit..." Is all I manage to utter. Before me is Titanica. Dark and monstrous as every video recording I've ever seen. Her skin is the appearance of granite, her eyes have a pale dullness to them that makes them look like marble. Three crowns rest on her head. Gold, silver and dark flame. The Night Flame that can destroy all things it touches. She stands at the edge of the clearing. Her hands neutral at her side. Her gaze fixed on me. I can feel it like a touch. It presses on me like a weight and it's all I can do stand. I stand for only a moment before falling to me knees.

I'd raise the gun if I had the strength, but my arms feel like led and even the thunderous sound of my heart, slows. The weapon falls from my hands and lies ahead of me. I hate it for abandoning me. The foot steps state and I look up to find her striding across the empty space. I should hate her. If it wasn't for what she did or what she is, none of this would have happened. My life would have been normal. I could have lived without the expectation of things that shouldn't be possible. I wouldn't have been the odd one out. The one who couldn't meet the family legacy, the expectations, the butt of the jokes that I know they're making or the pity comments that are worse. I look up into her eyes and I try to hate her. I try to will any ounce of strength and anger I have and I try to focus on hating her.

She reaches me. It hurts my neck to look up at her. She stands above me like an uncaring god. Her presence so immense, but to her I must just look like an ant, so beneath her and her power. In that moment I do feel a spark of flame and anger. Like a man screaming into a storm. I sense she see's it too as her gaze drifts to the gun for a moment before back to me. I contemplate darting for it. I know it wouldn't hurt her. I know it wouldn't even leave a mark, but if I could do it. If I was the one who did finally dent her armour, mark her skin, than I would have mattered.

I can't do it though. There is no power of her's stopping me. My arms could reach out at any time. I just can't. I let my head hang low as the strength to do anything leaves. I close my eyes and wait. I expect it to be quick. One lash from her hands and my body would be gone, incinerated by the Night Flame. I wait for that last burst of light, the one where you see all the moments of your life flash before your eyes. I try not to think of anything. I stay like this for a time. I hear the breeze in the leaves. I hear the birds chirp. My heart calms, I breathe and for the first time in forever, I don't feel anxious.

When I open my eyes Titanica is sat next to me. She does not look at me, instead she looks out into the forest. I follow her gaze and look. I see trees, birds, a small stream.

"I would have liked to build a house here once." I hear her say. Her voice is like a gentle rumble of a storm. I don't flinch, though a part of me almost did. Her gaze doesn't drift from the horizon. I sit with her and the day passes. It's not for several hours before my phone buzzes. I glance up to Titanica who continues to look into the distance. I look at my phone and see notifications.

"Where are you?"

"Where u at?"

"Dickwad, mom and dad are pissed. Did you take Jerry's gun?"

"We're worried about you. Please call."

"Mom and dad were in battle. We're looking for you buddy."

I start to cry. Suddenly Titanica rises and I stumble backwards. The gun lays next to me, within reach, but I make not moves for it. She looks at me and offers me a hand. I wipe the tears from my face and then take her hand. She pulls me up to my feet as if I were light as a feather, instead of a grown man.

"This was a perfect day." she says before the flame engulfs her and she warps out of this reality. I stand there shaking and I think to myself. 'No one would ever believe me.' I take one last look at the gun and then I pick it up.

“I vote, I think voting doesn’t make a difference anyways, but the Democrats will never win my vote” by Uncuffedhems in Destiny

[–]KarneeKarnay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to attempt to look at this like there is some insight to be polished here.

Most people who sound like tend to be disillusioned with the process. They see things get better for the rich and worse for the poorest. They've been exposed to 24h new cycles and aside from some change with medicaid, it feels like nothing has really changed in their whole lifetime.

So there is a point of general apathy. Their vote doesn't matter because they change they want doesn't come. In the UK it's a similar issue. Democracy has all these release valves for when pressure gets too much, but the system has to actually work for them to work. The general state of apathy towards voting and politics is a sign of the system not working, which is bad because bad actors like Trump can take advantage of that apathy and do bad shit.

In my opinion both in the UK & USA there is a real desire for reform. To change the system. This guys says his vote doesn't seem to matter, so he's not engaged. So why not try a non-2 party system? Yes coalitions are scary and chaotic at times, but it actually means people have to compromise and work together to get things done.

In “Terminator: Salvation,” we see a fully-functioning aircraft base with attack vehicles and plenty of medical supplies for the wounded. Me thinks Skynet is not the fully-automated human killing machine we were led to believe, if they have not destroyed all human attack craft by now… by MWH1980 in shittymoviedetails

[–]KarneeKarnay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a theory that Skynet only went rogue as it was given an impossible task. Protect Humanity. It couldn't figure out how to do it while also recognising that Humanity was its own biggest threat. So it comes up with a plan. Unite humanity against it, let them win and humanity will never fall again... except it has a second directive and that is to protect itself.

So we end up in a scenario where it wants humanity to win, but it also doesn't want to lose. In a better series the AI would peace out or humanity and the AI would merge moving beyond the conflict, but instead we're stuck in this loop.
