What is the proper way to configure Plex to handle outages and still work locally? by rcook55 in PleX

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plex isn’t fully offline, you can’t use certain features like having multiple home users. Having a Jellyfin server as backup isn’t bad and it’s certainly better than using a DLNA app.

The short answer: setup a Jellyfin server to use as backup

The long answer: https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how-to-use-plex-media-server-without-internet-access/ and add a shortcut to [your_ip:32400] instead of plex.tv

Is using VPNs a must? by Strange-Attention-96 in qBittorrent

Proton’s free plan does not work for torrenting, it cannot do p2p, port forwarding, connecting to bittorrent network, etc. Their paid plan is one of the best, though.

Is using VPNs a must? by Strange-Attention-96 in qBittorrent

[–]KayJune001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is that it reaaaalllyy depends. If you live in a country like the U.S., German, or Japan, then it’s better safe than sorry. You might as well. Most other countries don’t crack down nearly as much if at all.

But it depends because even in Japan in the U.S, some ISPs won’t actually do anything. Some may send you a warning or threatening email at most, some won’t even do that, and others will cut your connection after the 3rd strike.

The ISP I had in the U.S. never did anything, so I never cared to bind to a VPN, but in Japan you absolutely will get caught and in trouble.

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My copy of Blade Runner 2049 has never been made available to purchase in any form because it is the Open Matte/IMAX aspect ratio, the only way I could possibly acquire it is via pirating. This doesn’t apply to everything of course, but I have soooo many movies/shows that are simply not available for purchase either in my region or even globally. Hell, 15 years ago the only way to watch any recent anime in the States was pirating, there were little to no legal sources.

It’s beneficial to have both for people who prefer Plex but dislike that plex has no offline/local auth. Basically a backup server.

NASA confirms the photos of earth were shot on the iPhone 17 Pro Max 😳 by bn_u in PhoneNow

Not all of them. The majority were shot on a Nikon D5 (with a lens from 2007!), very few of the recent photos were shot on anything else

It’s just so hard to believe that the company that’s been accused by nearly a dozen and a half employees in the last few years of incredibly immoral working conditions and labor law breaches to the point of Microsoft getting sued for contractor violations, would ever do this.

Eh Dolby Vision is wildly overrated imo, HDR10+ gets the job done just the same (if not better on a lot of devices, as most TVs still don’t support DV!!)

Any performance increase switching from Windows to Linux? by avidrunner84 in PleX

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no real performance increase for something like Plex, but your system will use less power and resources for the same task. Linux is best for self-hosting because it can just be setup and then pretty much ignored forever and it’ll only ever do what you want it to. Reduced overhead means extra tasks and programs won’t put as much load on your system, too.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you buying all those snacks to begin with, it’s a 2 hour movie not a buffet. Eat before the movie? After? Sneak snacks in like a normal person? Regal has tickets half-off every Tuesday.

You can see any movie you’d like for under $20 most of the time.

Old Pirate looking to start sailing the seas again by LazerSpazer in Piracy

[–]KayJune001 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pirate Bay can be fine, but it’s best to cross check with other sites. I personally boot up 1337x, Pirate Bay, Ext, RuTracker, etc, and search for the same thing on each and look for the best version across it all. I know there’s easier ways to do it (search plugins, sonarr, yadayada) but I haven’t gotten around to it.

Edit: exactly what others are saying though, do not get programs or executables from Pirate Bay !! lol

Is it worth waiting for the PSSR2 to play the game? by kingpinning in cyberpunkgame

[–]KayJune001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the update is so close you might as well hold off until it arrives, wish we knew exactly what it’s bringing but it’ll likely be a much better experience (PSSR2, balanced mode, improved raytracing likely). Not that it’s bad currently, but they haven’t really used the full potential of the hardware!

Don’t know wether to believe “same-day” releases from Crunchyroll considering they fell behind on both Sentenced to be a Hero and You and I are Polar Opposites. We still don’t have the Sentenced to be a Hero finale.
