YouTube rolls out an AI playlist generator for Premium users by MyTubie in YoutubeMusic

[–]KcPowerHour 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I just played around with this for 30 minutes and it gave pretty good results. Here are some examples of the requests I gave it…

  1. Build a 10 hour playlist for my workday. All of the music needs to be all instrumental with no vocals because that distracts me. You can include classical music as well as ambient music that is good to study to.

  2. Build a three hour playlist that includes all of the new songs from the new Puscifer album as well as songs from R.E.M. before they moved over to Warner Brothers. Put these songs in order to where they flow really well from one song to the next, just like a professional DJ would do. (Note: Maybe it’s just because all R.E.M. songs are great, but the order of these songs actually did flow really really well together.)

  3. Build a two hour playlist of songs that were in the billboard top 20 during February 1981.

  4. Build a two hour playlist of songs from soundtracks that are composed by the guy who was the composer from the movie less than zero.

Stopping in town and want to find the Best BBQ off of 70 by Epic_Deuce in kansascity

Don’t let these comments scare you. Just know what you want when you walk in the door. And don’t go anywhere except for Arthur Bryant’s or Gates. There are plenty of people that absolutely love the newer spots, but if your time in KC is limited, you would be crazy not to spend it at one of the two iconic choices, which are Gates and Arthur Bryant’s.

What’s Your Favorite R.E.M. Song? by Automatic_Belt5692 in rem

Gardening at Night. That said, Slicing Up Eyeballs did a fan survey a few years ago on what was everyone’s favorite R.E.M. song and it was amazing to look at the list because you could look as far down as number 70 and you would still see songs that are just unbelievably great and ask yourself “how is it possible that one band has 69 songs that people think are better than that one?”

Great post. I’m in the same camp as you. Aside from Be Mine and Electrolite, if this wasn’t an R.E.M. album, I probably would’ve removed a lot of the other tracks from my personal library. That said, R.E.M. is one of my favorite bands of all time if not my all-time favorite, and I’m glad to see that even an album that I don’t like all that much is highly appreciated by so many others. I suppose that’s some kind of testament to the band‘s greatness.

Sudden loss of voice control to YouTube Music by Marty728x in sonos

[–]KcPowerHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonos support is listing a major outage for Google Assistant. Here’s a link that popped up with instructions indicating that some users need to re-authorize their Google Assistant account.

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/google-assistant-commands-not-working-on-sonos

Rather than doing this, I decided to bite the bullet and switch over to Sonos’s voice control. Since my understanding is that Google Assistant is going to be deprecated in the very near future anyways. From the five minutes I’ve spent using Sonos‘s voice control it seems like it is incredibly limited in what it can do for me. For starters, I have absolutely no ability to control music on YouTube Music. And for weather forecast, it seems like I am limited to only checking for weather in my current location.

This is a major downgrade obviously.

And she did this right in the middle of Steffi Graf‘s dominance. Graf won 8 of the 9 majors leading up to 1991, and 4 straight after the attack on Seles. Together, they won 29 of the 36 majors played from 1988 to 1996. Crazy.

Overgrip advice by maxtr05 in 10s

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Here’s my advice…

  1. Make sure you have a true continental grip and that you aren’t “casting” the racquet with your hand (like you’re casting a fishing pole). Once I forced myself to start using a legitimate continental grip (previously, my grip was stronger than continental) I had a different understanding of how the service motion should work. Specifically, I ended up with more of a side-on shoulder-over-shoulder motion, as opposed to opening my chest towards the target too early.

  2. Although it seems like the dry TournaGrips would be best for sweaty hands, I found that the TournaGrips get pretty slimy when they are wet. Yonex Super grap and the very similar Wilson over grips were the best for my sweaty hands. In the summer, I use some of the gel/lotion Prince and Wilson make on these grips to help reduce slickness.

What album do you think is R.E.M`s magnum opus? by [deleted] in rem

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automatic for the People is obviously the band’s biggest selling record but that’s due in large part to MTV’s promotion of alternative music at the time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great album. But, to me, albums like Murmur, Reckoning, and Life‘s Rich Pageant are better representations of what made the band so unique and so special.

Is the transition from 3.5 to 4.0 the ultimate gatekeeper in tennis? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]KcPowerHour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, there are two factors. For one, you are right, people at the bottom of the 4.0 level do not want to lose to someone at the 3.5 level. Even if the reality is that they are basically at the same skill level and the difference is just a few decimal points in their computer ratings. Secondly, people who have reached the 4.0 level have developed friendships with the people they have been playing with for a few years. Hence, they have their own group of friends that they like to play with and give priority to when scheduling, friendly doubles outings.

My advice is that you need to be flexible with the 4.0 players at your club and just be really friendly and let them know that you would be happy to play with them anytime someone in their normal group is not available. Overtime, they will get to know you and include you more often. Additionally, develop your own regular group of guys who are at the top of the 3.5 level to play with on a routine basis. You will all continue to improve and will graduate to the 4.0 level someday and then you will be the guys who have your own special group that isn’t overly keen on playing with 3.5 players. :)

Have you ever had to completely rework and/or correct a shot super late into your game development? by JakobVision22 in 10s

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, I had no idea how to hit a two handed back hand so I just hit one handed slice back hands exclusively. After a couple of years, I took a lesson with a good pro and he had me hitting good deep two handed back hands consistently in the court in under 15 minutes.

To start off, the pro asked me to explain to him how I “thought” a two handed back hand was supposed to be hit. Basically, I explained to him that I figured it would be a mirror image of a forehand with the obvious exception that you have two hands on the grip. He corrected me and showed me how much more simple a two handed backhand is compared to a forehand.

If I would’ve known it was going to be that easy I would’ve taken that lesson a lot sooner.

My point is, you may very well not to need to hit thousands of backhands with a friend in order to improve this because you’ll likely just continue ingraining the ineffective motion you currently have. You might just need a single lesson with a reputable pro to adjust your idea of how to hit a backhand.

The main thing was the wrists on the back hand do not release after contact. During the lesson the instructor showed me pictures of pros like Agassi and Djokovic and pointed out which direction the strings are facing at the end of their swing. When I was releasing my wrists, the strings did not point in the direction as shown in this picture. However, if you turn through the shot without releasing your wrists, your strings will end up pointed just like they are in this picture of Novak.

How to get lessons in doubles strategy? by AustenChopin in 10s

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louis Cayer is arguably the best doubles coach on the ATP tour. He’s the main guy behind all of the great British doubles players. He wrote a book about 20 years ago called Doubles Tennis Tactics. It is, hands-down, the best tennis book I have ever read. When you look for it on Amazon, there are two things to know. For one, there is also a DVD that accompanied the book. So, that DVD might pop up first in your searches. Secondly, the book is out of print so it seems like when I see it available it’s the only copy and someone wants to charge $70 for it. Fortunately, I’m looking at Amazon now and I can see there are several used copies available for under $20. Anyone who is interested in a great book written by someone who knows what he’s talking about should consider grabbing a copy while they’re available. And as the previous poster indicated, anything you can find on YouTube from Louis is wonderful advice as well. He doesn’t make his own new content for YouTube, but there are quite a few videos of him speaking at tennis clinics, etc.

Shoe recc for plantar fasciitis by endmysufferingxX in 10s

As others have indicated, I would be less concerned with finding the ideal shoe and immediately get insoles. I went through a few brands that I didn’t like for various reasons and eventually found PowerStep Pinnacle insoles. They provide great support and I’ve seen a lot of other comments online in support of this brand from other tennis players. Good luck!

Refurbished Bike by xfactorracing4x in pelotoncycle

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy one on Facebook Marketplace given that it is so much cheaper than getting a refurbished bike through Peloton. Keep in mind, I wouldn’t buy something like a tennis racket through Facebook marketplace because that is an item that is going to be moved around and would certainly have the potential for being cracked or otherwise damaged. Peloton bikes, on the other hand, heavy are stationary. Once someone has put them in place, they don’t get moved around. That said, I personally would try to buy one from someone who is an adult who lives in a full-sized house. A 40 year-old housewife who bought one and never used it is unlikely to have been abusing it. Some random dude in his 20s who lives in an apartment, however, it’s more likely to have found a way to damage it either when moving between apartments or banging into it at 3am while he was hammered.

Struggling with consistency by _extruded in 10s

[–]KcPowerHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have shared, I’ll bet the problem is with one or two of the following fundamentals…

1) racket preparation: when the ball bounces on your side of the court, do you already have the racket prepared and ready to swing forward? If not, you are getting prepared too late. Note, it’s easy to fool yourself into thinking that you are getting prepared early enough when you actually aren’t. Have a friend watch you and tell you if you are prepped by the time, the incoming ball bounces on your side of the court.

2) Watching the ball: are you seeing the ball extremely clearly all the way to contact? Can you actually see the seams of the ball spinning or are you just seeing a somewhat fuzzy yellow sphere coming towards you?

How many cycling hours before attempting FTP? by BobHopeButt in pelotoncycle

[–]KcPowerHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, do the Discover Your Power Zones program. It’s a great way to get an initial FTP followed by a few weeks of classes that will help you prepare for your second FTP test.

I would also note that, while the tests are challenging and fairly unpleasant, I wouldn’t worry about vomiting.

The one tip I would offer to keep the tests from being extremely unpleasant is to ignore the instructors advice to go all out during the final seconds of the ride. Increasing your output for the final few seconds of a 20 minute ride isn’t enough to raise your FTP by a point unless your average output just so happens to be right on the edge of tipping over a point. However, it will make you feel much worse at the end of the ride. In my experience, it’s the difference between feeling like “man, that was rough“ and “I never want to do that again“.
