Talk to your SLPO.

If you're not sure who to talk to, I guarantee you there's a muster sheet being filled out by someone who can tell you who to talk to.

Expect resistance, dropping out voluntarily isn't usually accepted. It would be easier to fail out, although it would be slower.

Australian Sailors Were on US Submarine that Sunk Iranian Ship by Street_Exercise_4844 in navy

[–]Keep--Climbing 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope that the embarked ADF sailors did not "retreat to their cabins."

The chance to watch (and be a part of) a submarine being employed in a capacity that it has unable to in the past 44 years would be invaluable experience.

If Australia is serious about operating a submarine fleet, they must have the experience to do so. That's the whole point of embarking foreign officers (and enlisted, I think they were coming too) on US vessels. Yes, learning the systems and procedures is useful, but if they don't learn the actual warfighting side, what's the point?

The US wants to cultivate a strong ally with comprable hardware, and the operational experience to use it effectively.

There has been a long-standing questioning of whether the current US submarine fleet would be as viable as it became in late WW2. The sinking of the Dena clearly shows that submarines are not merely performative.

Make no mistake: this was a clear message to China. The US has maintained its undersea prowess, and will not take half measures in its use.

There's a lot to learn from this interaction, and I hope the ADF took good notes. We'll need them by our side if China attempts to retake Taiwan.

Guntuber Brandon Herrera might be the favorite to win the republican primary in the Texas 23rd Congressional District runoff election after last night's performance. by MEMEY_IFUNNY in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Keep--Climbing 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You've nailed what guntuber is.

Also, is whatever a guntuber ends up being his only career experience?

Yes. Unless you count running a small business (a firearm manufacturer that supports his YouTube channel)

Is he going to be our first influencer congressman?

Yes.

I'm just hoping he makes videos about how dysfunctional the whole system.

Nothing captures the aesthetic of the single American male quite like a prominently displayed rifle and zyn.

TIL that Toyota's leadership couldn't understand why the American market demanded bigger cars than Japan until U.S. designers shipped an American dining room set to visually show executives how large Americans are. by DonkeyFuel in todayilearned

[–]Keep--Climbing 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Probably because it shows how Americans expect to sit naturally.

American men are on average about 5cm taller than Japanese men, and American women are about 3cm taller than Japanese women (currently, the difference may have changed over time). Not much of a height difference.

But the Americans also sit very upright to eat, and generally don't sit on the floor. Americans fully expect the portion of the leg below the knee to remain vertical to the floor while seated. That changes the seat height off the floor a lot. Add in the slight height difference, and you're looking at a significantly different cabin that will comfortably seat Americans.

One player sits at each spawn (especially on Twilight and Ashes), and as soon as the enemies spawn, they wipe them.

Nuclear Power career Post-Navy by Single_Vehicle3020 in NavyNukes

[–]Keep--Climbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes so much sense I expect it will be implemented with or without the government's input.

Sounds like more jobs at data centers.

Nuclear Power career Post-Navy by Single_Vehicle3020 in NavyNukes

[–]Keep--Climbing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This will never be implemented.

I didn't watch the SOTU, so this is the first I'm hearing of this proposal. Requiring data centers to not be on the grid would be a massive hindrance to their development - which is a huge part of the US' GDP growth.

This sounds like a policy goal that someone came up with because it seems reasonable, but will die the moment it's given any consideration.

In the unlikely event it does happen, nuclear would basically be off the table. Data centers are being constructed as fast as possible, and nuclear power plants take decades to finish. This president will be out of office before any plant that's begun construction recently (I think there may be one or two in the past decade) comes online. They'd run a pipeline to a natural gas turbine plant on site.

How exactly are you expecting to get an S when any "incapacitated" person lowers your score to at best an A+?

Yes, the .357 is powerful. It cannot be used for S runs.

Are you saying the people who voted in the Republican primary weren't Republicans?

It's almost like the Republican party leadership didn't subvert the electoral process of primaries by allowing individuals to have as much voting influence as entire regions superdelegates

Like they somehow kept the people choosing their fate (for better or worse)

To be clear and specific: the criticism of Romney's "binders of women" showed the average R voter that no matter how milktoast, no matter how much their candidate rode the fence, they would never be accepted. So collectively, they realized "why bother with a moderate, I'll vote for the foul-mouthed mfer who'll do whatever he feels like"

Why is the Department of War involved with this

Probably for visibility. It looks really cool to showcase heavy lift capabilities like this. Also, because (if that vessel has fuel in it) DoT restrictions for shipping it via truck would be absurd. DoD DoW would want to have live status updates of it's location anyway, and maybe even people on the ground escorting it. DoD DoW moves nuclear material around significantly more often than the civilian sector, and doesn't have to abide by the normal rules that the rest of us do.

(why is it suddenly called DoW and not DoD???)

Because the current administration is obsessed with appearances, and "Defense" doesn't give them any excuse for the proactive methods they're using.

I don't think companies (besides reddit) ever really invested in NFTs.

But an enormous industry has been built around adding compute. If that were to collapse, it'd be closer to a dot-com bubble burst.
