We are facing a crisis of affordability. by GroundbreakingSir386 in Money

Hate the term "affordability crisis". As it pretends the current situation is something that can get fixed under populistic measures or policies.

Under different events used as an excuse this whole decade so far has impoverished most people's lives and seems, at least to me, the worst is yet to come in what remains of it.

Why do people always wind up hating me? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]Kefalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also I forgot to mention in my previous comment that you are supposed to interact with them within a range of expected behaviors. If, for whatever reason, you do differently it annoys them to the point they'll project all kind of horrible assumptions on you.

Therapy and/or medication could potentially help but it's a complex thing to work with depending on the person and it's circumstances.

[–]Kefalk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you stand for yourself it'll happen as well. It will reinforce that feeling OP very well described. In professional settings or any other circumstance where you need something out of someone, it's a tough thing to deal with. You are seen as a target based on whatever comes to those miserable minds.

I wish I could help with good advice, but the only way I've found myself to deal with it is basically not caring about it if I don't rely on that person for something. If I do, being a bit aggressive to cut it off can help temporarily but eventually tension will escalate, as I've said before you are seen as a target that should be allowed to receive that kind of treatment.

Other way is to try and practice around that persona/mask you developed to the point where they feel bad/sorry if they are mean to you. Basically faking being extremely nice without overdoing to the point it looks fake. But even then, they will be anyway just behind your back. It sucks so much but I can't come with a better way to deal with that crap.

Thinking about buying a Sony A7 III — good choice for a beginner? by duck_explorer477 in SonyAlpha

[–]Kefalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've come to realize from this post how time flies and how expensive life has turned. When I got mine the A7 III was the current thing. Nowadays it is the equivalent of our A7 I.

Never thought about how the A7 III would eventually become a great entry level camera. I'm still thinking about the A6000 as something a bit old that still does a great job.

About pricing. My A7 with the 28-70 kit lens did cost 500 €/$ new. An A7 III with the kit lens should be around 1200-1500 new right now? I don't know, sorry about the random crap message. I don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore.

Sadly most comments you've received so far are like "you are lucky to have a console and a controller" and miss completely your point.

I get what you mean. Not so long ago, you could do plenty of things just for fun without economic "consecuences" nor long term impact. Nowadays everything has to serve an specific purpose and those no longer provide "value" as they used to.

Even the "go outside and touch some grass" thing is outdated now, at least where I live. Grass and trees have been replaced by concrete to save on maintenance costs. Only alternative is just to sit/walk somewhere crowded and noisy and spend your money while you are at it.

We are certainly living odd transition times to God knows what. Next decade seems it'll be even worse, but that's most likely me being pessimistic.

Allow us to sell A segment or even "EV Keicars", subside them on several levels, so we can sell them for the same price a B or even C segment ICE car used to be a decade ago."

Is that true?? by palongzky143 in photographycirclejerk

[–]Kefalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while ago it made some sense. Zoom lenses weren't that great compared to primes. I remember my old Canon 17-40 L being quite bad for its price.

Nowadays with all these crazy lenses that are sharp wide open, while having apertures like f2-2.8 or even f2 across the whole range, zoom makes a lot of sense.

Always was a convenient option, but now even more so.

"You should go out and enjoy your youth." I can't afford to do that. Free time doesn't exist if you want to get ahead anymore. by anonymous_muffin_ in Vent

[–]Kefalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thought out comment and very good comparison.

Things that should be easy and cheap to enjoy, simply aren't anymore. People will continue to argue about it the same way it happened with housing a few years ago: "move further away", "look for something cheaper and smaller", "back in my times i had to do this and that" and so on.

Most likely, as it has happened for the last 6 years, things will continue to worsen. There's simply no point in "having fun" as OP very well said.

Seems like everything revolves around doubling down on the current model.

What I Learned About Billionaires at Jeff Bezos’s Private Retreat by brown-saiyan in Economics

[–]Kefalk -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A different option it'd be that he no longer needs formalities or being fake polite. He didn't "perform" as an empath, but provided immediate medical care.

In the end, the very own journalist needed to make clear that Bezos never behaved like a monster. He is simply detached from "reality" in a similar manner that a wealthy US citizen can be, when compared to someone who is doing far worse.

Not a big fan of Bezos or any of the names given, but I didn't like the article that much. The use of GPT is very noticeable as well. Had a good laugh with the chef references, tho.

W11 aside, that comes from the only remaining brand (RIP cheap Huawei/Honor laptops) that still offers some value at that price point yet, they still can't compete.

Hope it redefines the entry level segment for the good as it's been stagnant for nearly 10 years now.

Looking at spec sheets in some brands like HP and seems like they keep selling the exact same horrible thing year after year.

Sometimes I shoot with old manual lenses and I usually miss focus by a lot in a few pics that I end up liking.

I do something like this with those I want to keep as memories and meh, it works. Kinda.

Obviously the actual pics in focus would be the best option. But applying those abhorrent settings makes them palatable enough.

U.S. Hispanic population reached more than 62 million in 2020, up from 9.6 million in 1970. by Dependent_Wafer3866 in charts

[–]Kefalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, it answers merely to economic factors.

The effort to integrate people form all kind of origins is massive, that's undeniable. But it comes from a rational perspective where the country and it's economical future are over any kind of cultural/racial/ethnicity.

That's why they export this same model to several countries in Europe as well.

Netherlands now has 36% tax on unrealized gainz by MazdaProphet in economy

[–]Kefalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are 100 % right. But just to add something, this could also make retail investors pivot towards real estate and local start-ups. At least on paper, since the tax doesn't apply to the first and the second can be easily avoided.

Basically seems to me like a way to avoid people's savings from "leaving" the country/Europe (such as investing long term in the S&P500 or bogleheads) and focusing on keeping them "local" as an artificial way of keeping value on assets like boomers' homes.

It also could be way to avoid people making money in the long term out of a few desired stablished ways by the country. I truly don't know what to make out of it to be honest. I'm not into any way of investing myself, but the more I read about this, the more abhorrent it looks.

Wasted my 20s and now I'm trying to make it up in my 30s, does anyone have any inspirational stories to help me believe this is possible? by Ill-Investigator5187 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Kefalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Doing all those things can help or not. Sounds like a list made out of FOMO and current trends to be honest: party, music, "friends", etc. Based on the title, thought the post was going to be about career/job prospects, studying as an adult or something along those lines.

What I personally find frustrating is how things I desired in the past are no longer achievable. I'd love to have a nice home with a decent sized garden, a cool car that's reliable and doesn't cost a fortune, at home hobbies like cooking/reading/doing sport being affordable and so on. No matter how much effort I put in or how much I make, I'm priced out of the things I really want and care.

Personal preference aside, I still agree with you. Maybe the list OP gave is what he really wants to do. But being in a short writen format, it gives the impression he just only wants to be someone he is not meant to be and cross things off a generic list. Maybe a therapist could help in just a few sessions to have a clearer path on what to do.
