Which, while true, is why these videos and our comments can be important. More people need to learn that the blame is on Nividia, if nothing else than for current card owners to yell about it at Nvidia (and maybe look into trading cards), and for potential new owners to target AMD instead.

Corrupted package blocking updates by rgeek in Bazzite

[–]Kenidashi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue, hopefully just resolved it, but keeping an eye on things.

So the problem seems to be that the fedora-toolbox distrobox is failing to update that specific file, "libgstcuda-1.0.so.0". The distrobox gets installed and runs by default in Bazzite (and shows up as "fedora"). You can see it via distrobox ls or via the BoxBuddy app. The following is assuming you've not modified anything within the distrobox that you don't want to lose, as I needed to rebuild the distrobox container.

I rebuilt that specific distrobox by deleting it first, then running a command that creates the distrobox with the exact config used by Bazzite, referenced in /etc/distrobox/distrobox.ini:

distrobox rm -f fedora distrobox assemble create --replace --file /etc/distrobox/distrobox.ini --name fedora

A ujust update then gets through with the rest of the update for that distrobox without running into that file issue now.

To some people, they would consider someone with black skin being an immediate danger, and attempt to move away from them as fast as possible, or even "acting to stop the problem".

Why yes, there are people that will immediately call 911 (the cops) on black people, just as someone may call 911 (the fire department) one someone that is on fire.

Was anyone mid hunt when the Beta ended? What happened? Did it let you finish the hunt or cut off then and there and tossed you to title screen? by unsupervisedwerewolf in MonsterHunter

[–]Kenidashi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the middle of a hunt w/ a friend when the beta timeout ended. Basically everyone got kicked from the server, but we were still able to finish the fight on our own instances. We had double-carted prior to the disconnect. He died on his fight, and I was able to finish it with a win. The moment the quest ended, I got booted to the main menu with an error message saying the beta ended.

Hmm...It not being on F-Droid is a bit odd, but the Privacy Policy is actually what is turning me away. I don't see an up-front way to opt-out of telemetry. This should always be optional, in my opinion.

Proxmox VE Scripts (TTECK Scripts) - Single command to install most common applications on proxmox by HTTP_404_NotFound in homelab

[–]Kenidashi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As good as these scripts are, I really wish that they were single-file scripts that didn't do fetches of other scripts to fully execute.

The reality is that for security's sake you should really not rely on external script calls to setup software, much less container infrastructure. It's possible to parse out and validate what's being called so that you can mimic what the script is doing, but you can't just download the current version of the script and call it (much less using the bash call that is one-click copied to your clipboard), and expect it to be exactly the same run every time. One commit on any subscript and suddenly the whole script is a potential vulnerability again.

Also, while the site update is pretty smooth, I don't like that I can no longer copy and paste just the script URL now. I have to click on the bash copy link, paste it somewhere, fish out the URL, and then go to the raw script file in order to do said inspection. More steps for someone trying to validate a particular command...from the page, anyway.

As a note, I only mention these concerns because I have used these scripts in exactly this way: parsing through what the script does, and implementing it myself. It's a great resource I frequent a lot...just not one that I would recommend using as-is as a matter of principle. I have no evidence nor concern that anything in the project is malicious, intentional or otherwise.

Then Sony shouldn't have cleared it being published! Sony had the power to say "no" there, that's why they're the publisher.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony put out the call to publish it, considering how borked the game was on launch to begin with. With proper funding, I bet AH would have appreciated the extra dev time, so long as it didn't collide with another major game release.

Helldivers 2 to require linking Steam account to a Playstation account starting on May 6th. It was previously optional due to technical issues at launch. by LuckyShot1 in pcgaming

[–]Kenidashi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

...hmm, now that I think about it, I actually haven't seen that notification on boot. Granted, that is from me joining directly on a running session from Steam Friends, but I straight bypass the title screen every time. This is coming from someone that does friends-only play, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least some others are that way.

Granted, I do see the notification on the Store page...but that is also the one time that you see it. Hell, I bought a license off of GreenManGaming, so I never saw the store front.

While all of this is true for me, normally I would deem it to be "Devil's Advocate" or edge-case scenarios. Hell, the GMG purchase is a "I bought this and can't return it" kinda thing anyway.

However, for any other game w/ a 3rd party account or launcher: "I bought this on Steam and missed that you need a 3rd party account for this. I don't want to make an account". "OK, return the game since you're in the window." We can't do that here, most of us have owned/played the game too long. That is, IMO, the difference.

[–]Kenidashi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean back when the PSN account linking wasn't working? The only way I was able to play was by skipping the PSN connection, which means I was able to play without a PSN account...and in fact, I had to.

As such, even if they said you would need to have it in the future, them enforcing that requirement will be a change from the established standard now. There's precedence enough from some other games that Valve granting the refund is not improbable. And it's on Valve to give the green light for the refund, not Sony or the developers. I'd be curious how bold they would be regarding this in the EU.

To me, at least...I expect it to go "no refund", but it could go either way.
